Wauseon Indians Come Up Short AgainstArchbold In An NWOAL Defensive WarWAUSEON - Defense proved to be
the key for the Wauseon Indians and
the Archbold Blue Streaks in NWOAL
action on November 30. Unfortunately
for the Tribe, it was the defense of their
Route 2 rivals that proved to make the
difference.
After battling at a 12-12 tie after the
first period, Archbold was able to gain a
two point advantage at the half and
expand the lead to four after three. A
5-3 rally in fourth period scoring put
the Indians on the sorry end of a 36-34
decision at the end of the season debut.
Corry Byers drained a trio of treys to
lead Wauseon with 13 total points. Zac
Robinson nailed a trifecta to finish with
7 points. Jacob Newlove and Noah
Castle each connected on 5 points, and
Kris Boysel and Zach Johnson each had
2 points for the 0-1 / 0-1 Indians.

Edon Bombers Survive Furious FairviewRally To Win Season Opener, 56-55
SHERWOOD - Up by double digits at
the half, the Edon Bombers saw the
Fairview Apaches creep within five after
three points on November 30. By the
middle of the third, the Boys in BomberBlue realized that the ambush was on,
and they were in no longer in cruise
control. The Apaches went on a 20-16
roll in the final frame, but their rally fell
a point short in a 56-55 final decision.
Mike Peeples pounded the paint for a
team-high 14 points for the Bombers,
while Jacob Brown had 13 points and
Kaden Sapp 11. Brock Thiel drained 10
points, River Wicker had 5 points, Alex
Kirkingburg 2 points, and Landon Bloiradded a free throw.

Hilltop Cadets Stand Their Ground ToFend Off Emmanuel Christian Rally
WEST UNITY - Like their military
namesakes, the Cadets of Hilltop
refused to surrender their ground
against Emmanuel Christian onDecember 3, but they knew that they
were in a slugfest after securing a sea-
son opening 45-43 win.
EC took the Cadet Cadre on an early
17-11 run, but the hometown boys ral-
lied and mounted the charge in the sec-
ond. With EC shooting blanks, the
Cadets ran off a 17-3 rally that put
them up 28-20 at the half. After three
their lead was up to nine, but the visi-
tors wanted to get in the last word. They
came close to succeeding as their coun-
terattack drained the Hilltop lead down
to a single possession at 45-43, but thatis where the clock ended the rally.
Erik Stipe led all scorers with 16
points for the 1-0 Cadets, with Quinn
Smith adding 13 points and 5 boards,
and Miklo Abner hitting for 9 points and
4 rebounds. Jalen Towers put in 4
points, Kelby Grime had a deuce and 5
dimes, and Ryan Brooker hit a free
throw,

FAYETTE - Although neither team
got out of the gates and set the nets
afire, it was the Fayette Eagles who dis-
covered their offensive punch first
against Edon on December 5. Once the
offense was in place, the speed of their
team defense kept the Boys in Bomber
Blue at bay, allowing the Eagles to post
a 49-29 BBC win on their home court.
Koby Bombs Away Biddix led all
scorers with four treys and 16 total

PETTISVILLE - The friendly confines
of The Birdcage in Pettisville proved tobe less than enamoring for the bigger
birds of the North Central Eagle variety
on the evening of December 5. The

WAUSEON - Count the Wauseon
Indians down at your own peril.
The Holgate Tigers traveled to Indian
City on December 5, and were holding
the hometown boys at bay through the
first period. The tomahawks were raised
for the counterattack in the secondperiod though, and the second and
third period rallies against the Tigers
proved to be more than sufficient, turn-
ing a 12-10 deficit into a 56-37 blowout
win at the final buzzer.
Noah Castle had a game-high 16
points for the Tribe, and Jacob Newlove
scored all 12 of his points during the
second and third period counterattack.

HAMILTON, INDIANA ... Hannah
Siekemeyer and Rachel Oxender both
landed treys to give the North Central
Lady Eagles and early advantage over
Hamilton on the road on December 3,
but Lindsay Upp led a Lady Marines
rally in the second half that nearly sent
the Lady Eagles home with a loss.
As it turned out, the Lady Eagles saw
their 13-point halftime lead dwindle
under the Marines assault, and Upp
canned 14 of 17 second half free throw
opportunities to throw the outcome in
doubt. In the end, Upps game high 21
points were not enough to gun down the
Lady Eagles, as they came away with a
46-43 win.
Siekemeyer led North Central with

Off-Period Offensive Woes BeleaguerHilltop Cadets Versus Stryker Panthers
WEST UNITY - If the Hilltop Cadets
can consistently get four quarters of
offense like they did during the second
and fourth periods against Stryker on
December 5, they would be instant BBC
championship contenders. It was the
first and third periods that did them in
on this night, and convincingly so. The
Panther Pack outgunned the Cadet
Cadre by a combined total of 37-11 in
the first and third periods, building a
lead that transitioned into a 67-44 BBC
beatdown of their hosts.
Parker Ruffer led all scorers with 29
points for the Panthers, with Tanner

Eagles made for a tough, physical test

Hannah Bleikamp Leads Hilltop Lady CadetsTo A Win Over Stryker Lady Panthers
STRYKER - The Cage in Stryker is
not for the faint of heart. Keeping com-
posure while the volume level becomes
volcanic is hard enough...keeping up
with the human hornets nest called the
Stryker Lady Panthers is another thing
entirely.
The Hilltop Lady Cadets and the
Panther Pack have had their share of
BBC brouhahas over the years, and up
to recently the Ladies in Red have his-
torically been cannon fodder to theirown cause. Like a swarm of angry hor-
nets, the Lady Panther defense would
begin the intimidation process early,
converting turnovers into points, and
points into blowouts.
On December 6, echoes from the
past were again answered, but the
realities of the present chimed in as
well. Stryker forced 21 turnovers from
the Lady Cadets, but unlike the past,
the Hilltop girls were not shaken. What
used to be an intimidation process
became determination, and behind a
game-high 16 from Hannah Bleikamp,
the Lady Cadets posted a 49-41 BBC
win over their arch-nemeses.
Destiny Denton and Emily
Armbruster backed Bleikamp with 11
and 10 points respectively. LeAnn Joost
put down 6 points, Kailey Creamer

EDON - The Defending BBC
Champion Fayette Lady Eagles have yet
to show a sign that they are tired ofwearing the crown. The Edon Lady
Bombers found that out first hand on
December 6.
Despite the fact that Kaitlin Chrisman
gave the hometown faithful in The
Hangar something to smile about with
her career-type performance, the Lady
Eagles had more than enough offense to
cover, and more than enough defense to
stifle Chrismans teammates. The junior
letterwinner blew up the Fayette defense
for a game-high 23 points, but seven
other teammates combined were only
able to match her offensive output as
the Belles in Bomber Blue were handily
hammered by Fayette, 64-46.

By: Bill BrayTHE VILLAGE REPORTER
When the Bluffton University footballteam took on Deance College recentlytwo old teammates from Wauseon HighSchool suited up and took to the eld onthe opposing sides.
2012 WHS graduates Kyle Wilson(Deance College) and Troy Lind (Bluff-ton University) reunited on the same
eld but in different colors this timearound. Both are pursuing their dreamsat the colleges they chose over two yearsago. And both, happy to say, are doingvery well with the decision.
Wilson is pursuing a degree in Nurs-ing while Lind is double majoring in Ex-ercise Science and Strength and Condi-tioning.
Both Wauseon graduates certainlyhad to do some adjusting to the collegeroutine but seem to be settling in quitewell. My in season schedule is very hec-tic and busy, Lind said. It denitelywears you out physically and mentallyas the season goes on. From taking 17credit hours, morning lifting, practices, position meetings, studying, and watch-ing lm there isnt much free time. Atsome points it is very hard to balance itall, but I am very thankful for having agreat coaching staff behind me to holdme accountable for being a student rstand an athlete second.
Wilson concurred with Linds senti-ments. My schedule is very hectic dur-ing the season especially with having anursing major. So in season my sched-ule is about 90% football and schoolwith many mornings waking up at 6 amor earlier and requires some good timemanagement skills.
Both young men had standout ca-reers at Wauseon but Wilsons All-Ohioselection was the only one from the 2011team. With the high school careers be-hind them, they both knew that footballneeded to be part of their college livesjust as it had been for their growing up
years.I had a chance to continue playing
my favorite sport and a lot of guys donot get this opportunity so I decided notto pass it up., Wilson explained. I alsoknow that my parents may miss watch-ing me out there on the eld so I guredit would be nice to give them a few extrayears to watch me play. No one else inmy family has ever played college foot-ball before so it was just too good of anopportunity to not take and maybe I willeven be able to start a family tradition.
As for Lind, football has been a partof his life since he can remember. Therewere several inuences in my life thatmade me want to continue my footballcareer at the collegiate level, Lind said. The main reason I had was that mybrother and I grew up always dreaming
about playing college football and havingthat as our dream. So naturally when wehad the opportunity to make it a realitywe both decided that it was still a dreamwe wanted to reach in our lives.
They both have Wauseon and thefootball program here to thank for muchof their success and they certainly thinkfondly of the old days. I have taken alot of things with me from Wauseon toBluffton, Lind said. Probably the mostimportant thing would have to be alwaysworking hard, even when the seasonisnt going the way you want. I had thehonor of having so many amazing in-dividuals in my life to look up to thatinstilled this in me, the two such rolemodels were Coach Ryan ODell and myfather Tom Lind. Thanks to these men I
have learned that the only thing you cando after a tough loss in any aspect of lifeis to show up for practice the next dayand continue to work hard.
Wilson continued by saying, At
Wauseon I learned my fundamentals ofcourse and I developed a great on theeld motor and work ethic. I also hadsome rough spots in my football careerand those low points really helped pushme to excel even more at the game and ifit was not for my successful senior sea-son and coach Cooper encouraging guysto go out and play college football thenchances are I would not be playing col-lege football.
As for their positions, both athletesnd themselves on the defensive side ofthe ball as Wilson is starting at defensiveend for the Yellow Jackets while Lind isa back up linebacker and on the specialteams for the Beavers.
Challenges are always present asthey continue to perfect their skills atthose positions. The biggest challengefor me? Wilson said If I mess up andlose contain everyone knows that it wasme. As for Lind Making all the appro-priate reads is a challenge. From the runpass read, to the ow of the play, all in asplit second.
College football life is different to besure but both young men are in agree-ment that they are happy they made theleap but also see the challenge in it. Ithas ended up being a more enjoyable ex-perience than I expected, Wilson said. The team chemistry and coaches arewhat surprised me the most. They reallydevelop an atmosphere for you to exceland grow as a football player which hasled to a big part of my success so far atDC.
In a lot of ways it isnt how I expectedit to be, Lind said. College is all aboutmaking time for everything especially incollege athletics. I was expecting all of itto be a lot of work and I was denitelyright about that part, but you have toput in a large amount of time in the lmroom week in and week out on top ofyour studies. This doesnt leave as muchroom as you expect for the college lifeyou see on TV.
In their young careers they both have
highlights already that they will takewith them in their memories. For Wil-son, Being able to play on one of thenations top ranked defenses and theopportunity to have a starting job as asophomore.
Linds highlight for his sophomoreseason, At this point in the season thehighlight of the season is practicing inPaul Brown Stadium on our over nighttrip. It was a great chance to get to knowsome of the younger guys and practicein one of the nicest elds around.
There is little doubt that these twone student athletes will make manymore memories over the next few sea-sons at their respective schools. And tothink that it all started for both of themin Wauseon is certainly something to beproud of.
