Ruffer Strikes Out A Baker’s Dozen As Stryker Shuts Down Hilltop, 7-2

STRYKER – The scary thing about Parker Ruffer is that he knows how to rebound and how to pitch…and he’s only getting better.

Not long after coming up on the losing end of a 2-0 no-hitter, Ruffer went back to work, shrugging whatever psychological effects off in the process. On April 22, his Panthers welcomed in the Hilltop Cadets for a BBC tilt that saw Ruffer setting down 13 on strikes as Stryker prevailed by a 7-2 score.

Ruffer went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs, one unearned on 4 hits and 5 walks. Dean Beamont pitched the final scoreless inning, striking out a batter.

Chad Ruffer had 3 RBIs on 2 singles, and Tyler Teschke plated another run with a pair of base hits. Zach Birky and Parker Ruffer each had a single.

Justin Grapengeter went 4 2/3 wild innings for Hilltop, surrendering 6 runs, 5 earned on 6 hits and 10 walks, fanning 5. Logan Brooker closed out the game, allow-ing a run on 3 walks, striking out 3.

Justin Ashenfelter connected for a double, while Grapengeter, Josh Phillips and Nic Schieber each had a single.

NC Eagles Whitewash Blackbirds In Five Innings To Create BBC Log JamPETTISVILLE – After being shut out

the day before by the Edon Bombers, the North Central Eagles were able to bounce back on April 23rd as they downed Pet-tisville 10-0 in five innings. North Cen-tral jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and cruised the rest of the way. The win creates a four way tie atop the Buckeye Border Conference between the Eagles, Blackbirds, Bombers and Stryker as each team has one loss.

Fresh off his no-hitter on April 15th, Kole Peterson was dominant once again. The senior right-hander allowed just three hits, while fanning 10 and walking two in his five innings.

Noah Miller started for Pettisville last-ing just 1/3 inning while allowing three runs on five hits. Cam Norris pitched the

next three frames and was charged with five runs on five hits, struck out three, and walked a pair. Tate Kauffman finished be-ing touched up for two runs on four hits, two K’s, and two bases on balls.

Peterson had a big day at the plate as well doubling and singling to drive in three runs. Colton Pilmore also collected three RBI with three singles. Josh Sawyer sent two across the dish with two doubles and a single. With the win North Central squares their record at 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the BBC.

For Pettisville, Logan Nofziger doubled while Norris and Kauffman each singled.

Wicker Fans 14 As Edon Blue Bombers Shut Out The North Central Eagles

EDON – River Wicker held the North Central Eagles to just two hits in six in-nings, while setting 14 down on strikes along with walking a pair to propel the Bombers past the Eagles 6-0 in BBC ac-tion. The hosts picked up two runs in the third inning, aided by three Eagle errors. The Bombers added four insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the vic-tory.

Besides Wicker’s six inning effort, Con-nor Hug hurled the final frame for Edon surrendering one hit, while whiffing two and walking two.

Branden Turner lasted five innings for North Central allowing all six runs (four earned), on seven hits, fanned six, issued

four free passes, and hit one batter. Ryan Bethel finished for the Eagles registering one strikeout and one base on balls.

Edon was led at the plate by Dakota Parrish who smacked and RBI double as well as singling, while Matt Cook drove home two more with a single. Wyatt Zulch also plated a runner with a single. Wicker and Brock Thiel each collected a base hit for Edon who improve to 2-1 in the BBC.

Dylan Hutchison, Alex Proper, and Josh Sawyer singled for the North Central hits. The Eagles fall to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Pettisville Blackbirds Unleash The Run Rule Wrath On The Fayette Eagles

FAYETTE – It’s not that Fayette made a lot of mistakes on April 22, it’s just that the Pettisville Blackbirds cashed in on practically every one. The run rule was invoked after five innings, mercifully put-ting an end to what turned out to be a 19-1 BBC beatdown.

Alex Roth led the 4-4/3-0 Blackbirds by going 5 innings and allowing a run on 2 hits and 5 walks, striking out 7. At the plate, Roth clocked a single and a double.

Logan Nofziger had 3 base hits, and Cam Norris, Jacob Deffely and Eli King each reached with a pair of base hits.

Daniel McNamara got the start for the Eagles, but was bounced after giving up 6 runs, 4 earned on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2 in 2 1/3 innings of work. Koby Biddix came on and was tagged with 6 unearned runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and a strikeout. Joel Smith finished, allowing 7 runs, 4 earned on 6 hits and 2 walks.

Jared Wagner and Jerad Seiler each singled for Fayette.

A Glimpse Of Fayette vs. Edon

JUST IN TIME ... Zayne Colegrove of Fayette flies down the first base line, while Matt Cook of Edon puts the squeeze on the ball for the out.

PHOTOS BY LUCINDA HELD-FAULHABER, STAFFNOTICE ... If you are one who believes that baseball is not a contact sport, Edon's Da-kota Parrish and Fayette's Daniel McNamara would like to have a word with you. Stats for this event were featured in the April 24, 2013 edition.

Did you really think that this little corner of the

Hometown Huddle was going to pitch a shutout at Sydney this season? Hah!

It ain't gonna happen, cap'n. The only thing so far that is putting a legitimate damper on Sydney's fleet

feet this season ia that which is dampening every-

thing else...the weather. Bottom line...when she runs, she wins. Sprints,

hurdles or jumps, she's got a lock on Columbus.

The short and sweet 411 on Parker...dude's got skills. If the rules weren't in place to prevent it, Parker would be

one of those guys who could win Athlete of the Week recog-nition almost every week. Do you need a clutch hit? Give Parker a bat. Need to slam the door on the bats of the

opposition? Hand the ball to Parker and tell him to go

warm up. No better example can be found than his heroics

of the Fayette game.

Delaney Nofziger Fires A One-Hitter As Pettisville Dismantles Fayette In FiveFAYETTE – With a 3-1 score after one, it

looked like the April 22 game between Fayette and Pettisville might be spirited. Then came the second inning. Pettisville trotted their offense back onto the field, while Fayette’s offense pulled a disappearing act, ala Houdini. While the Ladybirds piled it on, the Lady Eagles got snowed under in a 15-1, five inning fiasco.

The contest was score-less until the fourth inning. The Lady Eagles put three on the board in their half of the frame. The hosts answered with four runs in the fourth, then added six more in the fifth to put the game out of reach. The victory keeps the Lady Bombers in the driver’s seat for the BBC crown as they improve to 3-0 in the conference.

Kaitlin Chrisman went the distance to gain the will. The sophomore hurler gave up 12 hits, fanned five and issued one base on balls.

Reese Cogswell pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for North Central and was tagged

with the loss. She allowed nine runs, with just two being earned, four hits, set two down and strikes and walked a pair. Bralyn Wyrick tossed the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up one run on two hits, while register-ing two K’s.
