Stop feeding the pig and get Geo. God’s Way Irvine Apostolic Church Pastor: Ivan Smith You wanted to know where God chose the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. God, in His wis- dom, has authorized that preaching of the Word be the means of saving sinful mankind. (Read I Corinthians 1:21) An awesome responsibility falls on the shoulders of preachers of the gospel today! Each time a preacher opens his Bible and prepares and delivers a message, he is to de- liver God’s message to humanity, the message designed to lead individuals to salvation. One message preached under the anointing of God can cause a person to turn from his wicked ways and escape the judgment to come. The Word of God must be preached with longsuffering and doctrine, reaching out to the lost of this world. Jesus told His disciples, “. . . I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18) The church of Jesus Christ is the most powerful institution in the world today. It is not built upon man, but upon Jesus Christ, the solid, immovable Rock. In the early days of the Pentecostal revival of the 20th Century, the church met in homes, brush arbors, and rented buildings. As they grew and were blessed, they acquired more permanent places of worship, but the church is not a building. The Church is not stained glass windows and steeples. It is a body of believers which transcends the lim- ited buildings and places where they meet to worship God. Plainly spoken, it is the people who are the church body. Music is an integral part of the Worship of the church. It is often through singing songs of praise and thanksgiv- ing that people are introduced to a longsuffering Savior, experiencing the presence of God for the first time. For reasons they cannot understand, tears begin to roll down their face, and in response to the Savior, they often raise their hands in surrender and praise. Worship and singing can soften a heart calloused by sin, allowing one to move into a new dimension of God’s presence. The church service is conducted in an orderly, worshipful manner, encouraging the congregation to re- spond with heartfelt praise and rejoicing. Someone’s eter- nal destiny could be determined by our response to God in song and worship. As the people sing, testify and praise the Lord with upraised hands and honor God with their tithes and offerings, they create an atmosphere in which the Holy Spirit can work in the lives of others. As the min- ister preaches the good news of Jesus Christ, the heart of the sinner is drawn to repentance. When you are part of the congregation and see how beau- tiful God’s presence and purpose is experienced for your- self, you will never ask why we need an altar. How impor- tant is the altar in a church? The altar is a place of sacrifice and renewal. Most importantly, a place where sinners can come face to face with a longsuffering Savior. NOTHING CAN EVER TAKE THE PLACE OF THE ALTAR! Israel rejected God’s statutes, and His covenant. (II Kings 147:14-15). God WILL NOT force anyone to serve Him. We must serve Him because we choose to love him. Because we choose to be obedient to His Com- mandments. God will not force us to an altar of sacrifice, commitment, or worship. We must be willing to partici- pants. It is our choice. Come, learn with me! Written by: Mabel Tipton Developed by Destiny Greer, RN, CDE and Jamie Lee, RN, CDE, Lake Cumberland District Health Department More and more people are experiencinghealthproblems that require the use of medi- cal sharps (needles, syringes, pump sets, pin needles and lancets) in the home. The most common use of medi- cal sharps is among persons with diabetes. These con- taminated needles can not only pose a danger for oth- ers in the household, but can also be hazardous to waste collectors. Each state has its own rules and regulations for disposing of medical waste. In most of Kentucky, medi- cal waste can be disposed of with household garbage in most landfills. If you have a need to dispose of medi- cal sharps please contact your local waste collector to learn what they require to dispose of your sharps. However, to protect work- ers from accidental needle sticks and possible exposure to blood-borne diseases, the Kentucky Division of Waste Management recommends the following guidelines for the safe disposal of medical sharps in a home setting: • Contact your local waste collector to let them know when you will be setting out medical waste • Use a commercially made sharps container purchased at your pharmacy or retail store OR a hard, plastic container such as an empty laundry detergent bottle may also be used. [It is recommended that the lid be taped closed when 3/4 full.] • Be sure to label the con- tainer as “SHARPS-Do Not Recycle” and set it on top of bagged garbage • Place a lid on the gar- bage to help prevent tamper- ing or accidental exposure • The morning of sched- uled pickup, set the garbage and sharps container out for waste collectors Properly disposing of sharps greatly reduces the risk of accidental exposure to diseases, germs, and in- jury. Never throw sharps in the trash without a sharps container and do not flush them down the toilet. Just a few simple steps can keep your loved ones as well as your local waste collectors safe. For more information, contact your local health de- partment at 723-5181, or the Kentucky Division of Waste Management.
