Fourth Sunday of Easter Today’s Readings First Reading: The word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region (Acts 13). Psalm: We are his people, the sheep of his flock (Psalm 100). Second Reading: I had a vision of a great multitude (Revelation 7). Gospel: My sheep hear my voice; I know them and give them eternal life (John 10). Readings for the Week Monday: Acts 11:1-18; Ps 42:2-3; 43:3, 4; Jn 10:1-10 Tuesday: Acts 1:15-17, 20-26; Ps 113:1-8; Jn 15:9-17 Wednesday: Acts 12:24 — 13:5a; Ps 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8; Jn 12:44-50 Thursday: Acts 13:13-25: Ps 89:2-3, 21-22, 25, 27; Jn 13:16-20 Friday: Acts 13:26-33; Ps 2:6-11ab; Jn 14:1-6 Saturday: Acts 13:44-52; Ps 98:1-4; Jn 14:7-14 Sunday: Acts 14:21-27; Ps 145:8-13; Rv 21:1-5a; Jn 13:31-33a, 34-35 Saints and Special Observances Sunday: Fourth Sunday of Easter; World Day of Prayer for Vocations Monday: Our Lady of Fatima Tuesday: St. Matthias Wednesday: St. Isidore the Farmer Saturday: St. John I Scripture Reflection Each year this Fourth Sunday of Easter celebrates Jesus the Good Shepherd. Today’s Gospel seems especially timely, for as Christians worldwide suffer persecution like Paul and Barnabas, Jesus promises his sheep enduring, invincible safety: “They shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.” But we who are free to live our faith peacefully sometimes take our membership in Jesus’ flock for granted, wandering astray to seek our own pleasure and prosperity. The simple cross that Pope Francis always wears seems to show us how Jesus responds to that. Francis’s cross features an image of Jesus, who has sought and found a lost sheep, then joyfully set it on his shoulders to carry it gently home. May Good Shepherd Sunday inspire us, so often lost and found ourselves, to assist Jesus in seeking, finding, and gently carrying home our fellow precious lambs. Archdiocesan Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family. Amen. St. Catherine of Siena Parish Prayer God, Our Father, we thank you for our parish community of St. Catherine of Siena. Thank you for the many blessings that you have given us, but especially for calling us to serve as disciples of your son, Jesus Christ. As we gather today, we ask that you send your Holy Spirit to guide us in everything that we do. Transform our hearts and lead us closer to you. Help us always to seek to be a parish that is Centered on Christ and Ablaze with Love. We ask all of these things in the name of Jesus, and through the intercession of our Blessed Mother. St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us! St. Michael the Archangel Prayer St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Unused and Slightly Used School Supply Drive The SCS Women’s Club is always looking for ways to assist our adopted school, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in Kenner. One of the things we do is collect school supplies for them. Therefore, with the end of the school year upon us, if you have any unused or slightly used supplies left over, please consider donating them to the SCSWC for us to give to OLPH. A Word of Caution to the SCS Community Be advised that scammers pretending to be Fr. Tim are emailing and even text messaging parishioners and asking them to buy gift cards or provide other types of assistance. Please do not respond to emails or text messages of this nature. Kindly call the parish office at 835-9343 and ask to speak to the purported sender. Unfortunately, someone is trying to take advantage our Christian charity. Please be vigilant.

The next talk, “The Incarnation,” with Fr. James Wehner, will take place on Monday, May 13. Subsequent talks and topics are as follows: Tuesday, May 21, “The Gifts of the Holy Spirit,” with Fr. Jose Lavastida; Tuesday, May 28, “The Fruit of the Spirit,” with Archbishop Gregory Aymond, and Tuesday, June 4, “The Forgiving of Sins,” with Fr. John Restrepo, O.P. All evenings begin with recitation of the Rosary at 6 pm, followed by a reflection. Retreat on Omnipresent Holiness: May 17-19 Pope Francis’ document, Gaudete et Exsultate (March 19, 2018), re-minds us that holiness is in life’s immediate circumstances; in fact, it might be “right next door.” A May 17-19 weekend retreat for women will mine—dig out—the nuggets of the Pope’s insights and help partici-pants to realize that God is to be found in all things. Fr. Simeon Gal-lagher, O.F.M., Cap., will facilitate the weekend, which will be offered at the Archdiocese of New Orleans Retreat Center, 5500 St. Mary Street, Metairie. Contact Susan Halligan, [email protected] or 267-9604, or visit retreats.arch-no.org. Fr. Gallagher will offer a this retreat again Friday-Sunday, June 7-9. Transitional Diaconate Ordination: May 18 On Saturday, May 18, at 10 am at St. Louis Cathedral, Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond will ordain Sylvester Ugbada Adoga, Luis Carlos Duarte González, Kesiena Dennis Obienu, Luis Carlos Valencia Osorio, and John Daniel Yike to the Transitional Diaconate for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. All are cordially invited to attend the ceremony. A reception at the Old Ursuline Convent will follow. Called to Be Holy—On Being More Loving and Less Boring: May 31-June 2 God calls us to be saints—not plastic statues of saints, but real people of flesh and blood who daily seek ways to be instruments of peace, joy, and communion. Holy people are compassionate people who take the Good News seriously, making time for prayer and acts of loving kind-ness. In this retreat, we will explore two simple questions: What does it mean to be holy? How can we become holy? Fr. Philip Chircop, S.J., will lead this retreat, scheduled for Friday-Sunday, May 31-June 2, at the Archdiocese of New Orleans Retreat Center, 5500 St. Mary Street, Me-tairie. Actual cost for the retreat is $350; minimum offering is $250. Contact Susan Halligan at [email protected] or 267-9604 to register. Teresian Sisters Rock ’n’ Bowlarama: June 2 The annual “Teresian Sisters Rock ’n’ Bowlarama” will take place at Mid-City Lanes/Rock ’n’ Bowl, 3000 South Carrollton Avenue, on Sunday, June 2, 6-9 pm. The money raised will go to support retired and elderly Teresian sisters, and Teresian ministries. All who attend (must be 21) will be able to bowl, dance to the music of the Cypress band, enjoy good food, participate in a silent auction, and win a variety of prizes. Tickets are $30. A silent directed retreat for women is scheduled for Monday, June 3, 6 pm, to Friday, June 7, after breakfast. This is an invitation to come away for awhile and deepen your relationship with God. Each retreatant meets daily with a trained spir-itual director, is given Scripture to pray with, and spends the rest of the day in si-lence, prayer, and rest. Through Scripture and reflection under the daily guidance of the spiritual director, the retreatant grows

in awareness of God’s presence and action in her life. Retreat accom-modations include a private room and meals. For more information or to register, visit asc.arch-no.org or call 861-3254.

Honoring Mary Each Day During the Month of May Visit arch-no.org/may-marys-month to see a different title of Our Lady featured each day this month #MarysMonth. “Though 31 days are not enough to highlight all of Mary’s titles,” the Office of Communications writes, “we pray that we may all come to know our Blessed Mother as Jesus says from the cross, ‘behold your mother.’” Pope’s Message: World Day of Prayer for Vocations To access the Message of His Holiness Pope Francis for the 2019 World Day of Prayer for Vocations, visit worlddayofprayerforvoca-tions.com and click on “Read the Message.”

Prayer for Vocations Hail Mary, full of grace; all generations call you blessed. Hail Mother of God; when asked by the angel to bear the Son of the Most High, filled with faith, you responded: “Let it be done unto me.” Holy Mother of Jesus, at the wedding feast at Cana, you prompted your Son to perform his first sign. Be with us as we discern our life’s work and guide us in the way we are called to follow in the foot-steps of your Son. Holy Mother of the Savior, at the foot of the cross you mourned the death of your only Son. Bless and embrace the loving parents of all priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Holy Mother of the Good Shepherd, turn your motherly care to this nation. Intercede for us to the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers to the harvest in this land dedicated to your honor. Queen of Peace, Mirror of Justice, Health of the Sick, inspire vocations in our time. Let the word of your Son be made flesh in the lives of persons anxious to proclaim the good news of everlasting life. Amen.
