I distribute the virtues quite diversely; I do not give all of them to each person, but some to one, some to others.... I shall give principally charity to one; justice to another; humil-ity to this one, a living faith to that one.... and so I have given many gifts and graces, both spiritual and temporal, with such diversity that I have not given everything to one single person, so that you may be constrained to practice charity towards one another....I have willed that one should need another and that all should be my ministers in distributing the graces and gifts they have received from me .

LIVING BRANCHES The Gospel and second reading for this Fifth Sunday of Easter emphasize the need for us to remain in Christ, and he in us. This shared life finds expression in the image of the one vine and many branches. We become living branches of the vine, members of the Body of Christ through baptism, Eucha-rist, and confirmation, sacraments of sharing God’s own life. The First Letter of John describes the fruit of this vine as active love of neighbor: “And his commandment is this: we should believe . . . and love one another” (1 John 3:23). Our first reading from Acts shows us an example of some-one who shares in Christ’s life in the person of Saint Paul. Paul’s fearless witness, even at the risk of his life, is proof to everyone that the risen Lord’s Spirit truly fills him with life and is bearing fruit in him. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

En la primera lectura de los Hechos contamos con un ejemplo de una persona que participa de la vida de Cristo en la persona de san Pablo. Sta. Catalina de Siena
- Santa Catalina recibió una versión de los estigmas (las heridas de
Cristo) en 1375 que, de acuerdo con la biografía escrita por su confesor, sólo era visible para ella por su so-
licitud de Dios. - Catherine de Siena es una de las
cuatro doctoras de la Iglesia. Ella es también el único Doctor laico de la

St. Catherine of Siena
- St. Catherine received a version of the stigmata (the wounds of Christ) in 1375 that, according to the biography written by her con-fessor, was only visible to herself per her request of God. - Catherine of Siena is one of only four female Doctors of the Church. She is also the only lay Doctor of the Church. The other thirty-five are all clergy or religious. - Catherine effectively preserved the stability of the papacy. She convinced Pope Gregory XI to eventually return from Avignon to Rome. - She passed away on April 29, 1380 and lived to be thirty-three years old - She was canonized in 1461 by Pope Pius II and is the Patron Saint against temptations, of fire fighters, nurses, the sick, and those ridiculed for their Piety - Her body is preserved in the Ba-silica of Santa Maria sopra Min-verva in Rome.
