The Eastern Limb Career Expo is an annual event hosted by Mines in the

Eastern Limb of the Bushveld Ingeous Complex to address the shortage of

skills in South Africa particularly in the mining industry and further support

the government in encouraging young people to pursue careers in

    Mathematics and Science.

This expo targeted the Social Eeconomic Development (SED) footprint of

the sponsoring mines. They joined hands and initiated a career expo for

Grade 9s from 23-26 August. Modikwa Platinum Mine was the proud host of

this initiative. Modikwa, Marula Platinum Mine, Twickenham Platinum MineProject, Bokoni Platinum Mine, ASA Metals and Samancor Eastern Chrome

Mines co-sponsored the event. The event was opened on 23 August by

Modikwas General Manager, Mr Mandla Nxumulo with management

presence from all the sponsoring mines, exhibitors, tribal authorities and

    government representation.

Schools within the SED footprint of the sponsoring mines took part in this

initiative, while thousands of Grade 9 learners and approximately 200 teachers

    benefited from this joint effort.

The children were amazed with the vast variety of displays. The exhibition had

no less than 30 displays which included educational material on career

opportunities at the mines as well as practical model scale and real size

demonstrations of mining, engineering and plant equipment. Learners were

able to get a good understanding of the full value chain of a mine from mining

    right to plant engineering.

Politician and clergyman slainA kind man is the central messageabout the character of Mr Jack Tolo,COPE member of Parliament who waskilled in the early hours of Monday

Morning in his house at Ga-Masha,Ngwaabe, near the steel bridge on theroad to Jane Furse.Political parties, church and interestgroups reacted in shock to the murder ofthe 63 year old politician and clergyman

of the Apostolic Church in his village.Mr Tolo was also a businessman and

owned several shops in the Ga-Mashaarea.What apparently happened is that fourmen, three of them with faces covered in

balaclava masks entered the house atabout 02:00 on Monday morning, gainedentrance to the main bedroom where MrTolo was sleeping with his wife Salomeand tied them up. They also tied two of

the couple daughters and two of the

grandchildren up and demanded toknow if there was a gun in the house. They then blatantly shot Mr Tolo in frontof his wife before ransacking thepremises and made of with aboutR7000, a number of cellphones and

    jewellery.

The Police have launched a massivemanhunt to catch the killers amidspeculation whether the killing was acommon robbery or politically motivated. The ANC said after the killing We aredeeply saddened and disturbed by the

loss of life of one of the countrys anti-apartheid struggle veterans, throughsuch senseless and mindless criminality. We urge law enforcement agencies to

leave no stone unturned to ensure thatthose found responsible swiftly face thewrath of the law. Bishop Tolo was amongstthe first generation of ANC cadres deployed

to serve in the first democratically electedParliament following the historic 1994

elections. He served in various structures ofthe ANC Caucus and Parliament, including

as a Whip and member of the portfoliocommittee on correctional services.COPE said Mr Jack Tolo was born on 21

November 1948. His untimely death, he wascruelly murdered by the hand of as yetunidentified intruders at his home early thismorning, has robbed his family, his friends, his comrades and his community, as well asthe people of South Africa in general, of a

patriot, a gentleman and a leader. He leaves

behind his wife, Salome, 7 children and 10grandchildren, a family of over 20 in all.Bishop Tolo, served in the leadership of theApostolic Church since the 1970s, was anMP since 1994 and prior to that had worked

in democratic organisations since the mid1970s, when he joined the ANC. In 2009 he

was one of the first people to join theCongress of the People. In Parliament he

served on the Defence and CorrectionalServices Committees, where he was diligentand always on top of issues.

Bishop Tolos life was rooted in hiscommunity, where lived. He was an activeMP and always had time for his neighbours, his colleagues and his comrades. A kind, gentle man, he was also a firm believer in

discipline. Bishop Tolo was a working classman and he never forgot his roots. Heworked on the land as a tractor driver, on adairy farm and as a driver before he became

an MP in 1994. Ntate Tolo will be sorelymissed by all in the Congress of the

People. The DA said The Democratic Alliance (DA)

is deeply saddened by the sudden death ofCOPE MP Jack Tolo, and wishes to extendits heartfelt condolences to the leaders and

members of COPE, and to Mr Tolosextended family. Our thoughts are with MrTolos wife and children in particular, whowere present during the robbery in whichtheir husband and father was fatallywounded.

Mr Tolos execution-style murderdemonstrates the deep disregard that theperpetrators of this senseless act have forthe value of human life. At this time of loss,we must come together as a nation and takea decisive stand against the scourge of

violent crime that affects our country, andcontinues to rob South Africans of their

freedom.District Executive Mayor, Cllr Mogobo DavidMagabe also reacted strongly to the murder, saying Sekhukhune District Municipalitywishes to send its heart-felt condolences to

the family of the slain Bishop Jack Tolo, asthe political journey which started in 1968 to2011 has ended. Our condolences goes toTolos family in particular his elder sonKubane Tolo who is an employee of one of

our local municipalities in SekhukhuneDistrict. We urge all the people ofSekhukhune District Municipality to

remain calm and allow our securityagencies to clamp-down on the

perpetrators of this barbaric killing of

our anti-apartheid hero and veteran ofour struggle for freedom. As the ANC-led Sekhukhune District Municipality,

we say one death is one too many, weurge the police to act swiftly and bringthe killers to book and MAY THE SOULOF BISHOP JACK TOLO REST INPEACE.

Mr Tolo will be buried at the weekend.
