Hotel wins wedding prizeTHE Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa has won the title of Best Wedding Venue in

Cheshire in the County Brides Wedding Awards.

WESTMINSTER PARKGlan Aber Tennis Club

Summer camps will again be run during August. There is a four-day session for 8-16

year olds from 30th August-2nd September. The course rund from 10am to 4 pm daily

and the cost is 70 per child. There is also a three-day course for 5-7 year olds from

Residents to help fund community policing

CUTS in funding for Cheshire Police wont have an impact in Westminster Park.

Westminster Park Residents Association feared that they might have to ask residents

for extra money to fund the PCSO in the area but that plan has now been shelved after

the police found the money from within their own budget.

Bird table broken

VANDALS pulled the new bird table placed in the old tree nursery away from its

support. It was eventually found dumped elsewhere in the park.It was later xed by

Andy James.

Local policing priorities have been set following engagement with the local community and based on

information fed back at surgeries held with local residents:

There has been a signicant increase in burglary offences whereby sheds

and garages have been targeted.

Plans to address the issue

Regular high visibility patrols to take place and stop checks on persons

acting suspiciously in the area. PCSO Pendrey to identify vulnerablepremises and advise owners of security measures to prevent offences taking

place.

Local Priorities

You said Large groups gathering within the Meadows drinking and

causing a nuisance to members of the public. Youths are often abusive and

intimidating and leave litter behind.

We did PCSO Pendrey has met with local residents and members of

Friends of the Meadows. Regular high visibility patrols have taken placeover previous weeks by the Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Team

and youths have been spoken to and moved on from the area.

The next Community Action Meeting will take place on Thursday 11th August

@ 19:30 hours and will be held at St Marys Church Hall, Handbridge.

CRIMEFILEl West Cheshire College Burglars broke in via a ground oor window and stole

oorboards.

l Mill Street An offender assaulted a Civil Enforcement Ofcer by pushing her to stomach

while she was dealing with illegally parked vehicles.

l Lache Lane - Twenty youths were reported to be causing a nuisance. Local ofcers

attended and dealt with the group during which names were taken and a quantity of alcohol

was conscated.l Elizabeth Crescent - A white BMX bike was stolen from an unlocked garage.

SummEr on THE mEaDoWSFIRST impressions will lead you to believe not a lot

exists on the Meadow apart from a large expanse

of rough grassland occasionally grazed by a few

cattle.What you nd may well depend on the season, but a visit

during the summer months offers the city dweller a chance to

reconnect with nature. If you take a stroll along the River Dee,

or cut through the centre of the Meadow you may nd a fewof its more secretive inhabitants.

During the summer months impressive displays of wild

owers are to be found along the footpath circling the

Meadow. On your walk keep a look out for Purple Loosestrife,

Tansy, Meadowsweet and Water Speedwell which all hug the

riverbank.

The grasses & owers in the centre of the Meadow support

a whole host of insects including, Red Tailed Bumblebees,

Grasshoppers and Burnet Moths . These are joined by

numerous colourful butteries including Meadow Brown,Common Blue,

Large and Small

Skippers.

If you take a walk

at the height of the summer you will be entertained by

Swallows & House Martins weaving acrobatically at

high speed through the avenue of willows catching ies

Nursery children enjoy

the African experience

The children at St Marys Community

Nursery School, Handbridge, enjoyed a

welcome return visit of Misoshi to school

recently.

Misoshi was born in Ghana but now

lives in England and visits schools telling

stories and teaching children new songs

from her native land. The children at St

Marys are currently enjoying a topic onAfrica so she also showed them how

mothers carry their babies and shopping

Ghanaan style.

Pupils particularly enjoyed playing

Misoshis drum and the schools own

collection of African instruments whilst

they danced as African animals. All pupils

are looking forward with great excitement

to their visit to Norton Priory later this term

to go on safari.

eat your plants.In the ower border, colour will come from

many perennials. Veronicas are perennialswith small and tall varieties in pink, whiteand blue which are good for sunny positions.If you have a dry position, how about thegrass, Stipa gigantea? It sends up tall goldenoat stems that move in the wind and doesnttake up much space. Another good plant forsun is Verbena bonariensis which has tall

stiff stems topped with heads of small purple

owers. Again, it takes up little space in theground and lasts for weeks. Not hardy insevere winters but it will self seed.

For those of you lucky enough to have dampsoil then there are a range of plants youcan grow. In August the purple loosestrife,

Lythrum salicaria has tall spikesof magenta pink owers. Plantwith Astilbes with their creamywhite, pink and dark red owersplus ne cut leaved glossyfoliage. A quirky plant for thosewith damp soil and space forit to clump up, try Lysimachiaclethroides with its white foxtailowers all pointing in the

same direction that remind me of a tribe ofmeerkats on the lookout!.

Hedges can be cut in August as they shouldnot grow too much before winter. QUEENS Park High School held its very

rst celebration evening which helped put

the icing on the cake following yet another

successful OFSTED report which drew

attention to the outstanding contribution
