Its a jobdescription that would deter even the toughest applicant, with no holidays and no pay, and accordingto this survey we work longer shifts than a Junior Doctor!

Many of us continually juggle our domestic life with full time work and it takes much planning to keepeverything running smoothly. I should know, my eldest daughters are 31 and 29 and my youngestis about to go off to University. Thirty-one years of juggling, many of them as a single mother andworking full time. So I think I can say I understand how tough things can be!

Can w hp rduc ths prssur n yur ?The Bunbury Agency was established over 43 years ago by my mother when she herself could not ndsuitable child care for my two sisters. In those days it was not unusual for wealthier families to have alive in Nanny, whether they worked or not. Today things are very different, particularly in the presenteconomic climate. Yes, most of us want to, or have to work, and paying for child care or domestic helpcan use up much of what we earn. We are expected to be superwomen, so what is the solution?

Why nt k an Au Par?An Au Pair is a single male or female between 17 and 27, who comes to live with a family in the UK inorder to improve their English. They can stay for up to two years. Whilst they are not qualied childcarers, they usually have experience in looking after their own siblings and babysitting other children.Au Pairs may work for 25 - 35 hours per week, helping with your children and performing some lighthousehold duties in return for their accommodation and some pocket money, usually between 70 -100 per week, a very cost effective way of relieving the pressures on working mothers.

The Bunbury Agency is a member of BAPAA (the British Au Pair Agencies Association) and recruit Au Pairs in linewith their code of practise, which ensures that they are thoroughly vetted in line with Home Ofce regulations.

AS the nights draw in and the temperature seems to get cooler by the day I nd myself

veering towards the warming comfort of a glass of red wine. This evening will be my nalwine tasting class with a group Ive been teaching for ve weeks and I thought I would take

this opportunity to reect on which red wines over the space of those 5 weeks have been

the most enjoyable. So this month Ill be recommending something from Argentina, Italy and

Portugal, three of the countries that we focused on during our tasting sessions.

Malbec is a grape variety that has become synonymous with Argentina, despite its French

origins and its not difcult to see why it is described as being the black wine of Cahors, the

region of France from where the grape originates. So dense is it in colour that whichever

way you lean your glass, you can only see the dark inky hues of what is a full bodied, fruit

packed red wine. The Malbec Nieto (8.25) is classic Malbec, deep in colour, bundles of

blackcurrants and spice on the nose with a rich, full bodied palate that delivers all the avourit promises on the nose.

The Ciconia Tinto(7.25) is a red wine from the innovative wine region of Alentejo in

southern Portugal, a region also famous for its cork trees. Named after the White Stalks

that are said to live in this picturesque part of the country, the wine is a blend of local grape

varieties Aragones and Touriga Nacional and some Syrah, the more widely known Shiraz.

Spices and red berries on the nose with

hints of smoke, this wine has lovely juicy

fruit on the palate balanced with soft, chewy

tannins and a complex, seductive nish.

Finally the Nero dAvola, Cusumano

(11.00) from Sicily was by far the hit of

the Italian evening. Nero meaning black in

Italian and Avola is the town in south eastern

Sicily, from where the grape is named after.

A luxuriously chunky red from this hot,

Mediterranean island thatll give any new

world blockbuster red a run for its money.

THIS summer The Catholic High School,

Chester celebrated its best ever GCSE

examination results, and within days of the

new school year starting found that the

inspectors were due to call. OFSTED havejust inspected The Catholic High School,

Chester and conrmed, once

again, that it is a good school

with some outstanding features

to its work.

In her letter to the students at

the school, lead inspector Joan

Davis stated that we found that

your school provides you with

a good quality of education,and carried on to conrm that

teaching is good. The school has worked

effectively to improve the quality of teaching.

Since the last inspection ve years ago

the standards expected have been going

up consistently, and the headteacher John

Murray, and chair of governors Peter Bulmer

were both delighted to see that both the main

school and the Sixth Form were rated as

good by the inspection team.Outstanding

The report itself covers all aspects of the

schools work, and crucially describes student

achievement as good. Particularly pleasing for

the staff and governors of the school were the

judgements that described the Spiritual, Moral,

Cultural and Social education of the students

as outstanding. The teaching observed

during the inspection was consistently good orbetter, with over 80% of lessons rated as good

or outstanding.

Headteacher John Murray said: Our ethos

is very important to us. Although we are

celebrating our best ever results and results

are very important I am equally pleased

with the things the report has to say about

the support our students get throughout the

school, including at Sixth Form level. Whatthe report has to say about the relationships

between staff and students is

wonderful.

The school has been a specialist

science college for eight years and

the report conrms that the impact

of the specialism on the school

and the wider community has been

extremely benecial.

Areas for improvement

As always, the inspectors have left a number

of areas for the school to improve. One of

these is attendance, where the latest statistic

of 92.7% is something the team felt the school

could improve, despite all the efforts the

school currently makes. Another area is lies

in making sure that students understand their

targets better and the teachers will be working

on making sure that this happens.One area that the inspectors drew attention to

was the support the school gets from parents.

The number of questionnaires returned was

exceptional despite the short notice, and the

responses were very positive.

Parents trust the school to keep their children

safe and the inspectors gave the school an

outstanding mark for the extent to which

children feel safe.

The school has been involved in the workof the anti-bullying alliance over the last ve

years and John Murray nished his comments

CHILDREN and parents at St Marys

Community Nursery have done their bit to

make visiting the Grosvenor Museum a fun

experience for families.They have helped to design a free, fun,

Explorer Pack aimed at the under ves.

Cheshire West and Chester Councils

Family Learning Service funded the project

which brought together parents, carers and

children from St Marys Community Nursery

to work with the museum to develop the

pack.

It contains a range of fun activities, and anexplorer hat and accessories, designed for

the under ves, offering parents and carers

a free activity which enables the whole

family to explore the museum and enjoy

learning together.

The Explorer Pack available at the

weekends and during school holidays

focuses on three particular rooms which

parents found most appealing for the under

ves the Roman Galleries, the PeriodHouse and the Natural History Gallery.

Chester Councillor Samantha Dixon said:

QUEENS PARK HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

School celebrates centenaryQueens Park High School has been celebrating a centenary of educating children. The

celebrations have included students both past and present collecting memorabilia for a specialexhibition at the school. The exhibition spans the 100 years from 1911, when the Handbridge

School opened as the City & County School to 2011, the 40th anniversary of the school

becoming a comprehensive.

The school has also held three well attended reunions for past students and a black tie

Centenary Ball (organised by the Home School Association) which saw over 100 people

attend. Catering for the ball was done by the company A Catered Affair which is owned by

ex-student Sue Robinson (ne Finlay) with husband Mike. Current students joined in the

celebrations this week with special assemblies and Year 10 catering students baking a special

birthday cake and individual cakes for all students in the school.
