Again, I want to reassure you that the school will continue to operate without disruption. Once the new Principal is appointed, I will spend time with them to have a thorough handover. I will share my knowledge on families and students to make sure the support I provide for you continues.

Our school will be ‘business as usual’ with our incredible executive team and staff leading the way with quality programs, high expectations in behaviour and learning and caring for our students. Mrs Wardlaw (Deputy Principal), Mrs Steele and our dedicated Assistant Principals will continue leading the school with our new Principal. And of course our incredible teachers, support staff and office staff will continue doing what they do best – loving our kids!

I want to thank you all for a magnificent two and a bit years. I have simply loved coming to work every day to interact with our amazing students, families and community. I have been extremely proud to tell people I work at the BEST school in NSW – The Entrance Public School. We do great things here and I know the school will keep working together to make a positive difference in our kids’ lives.

Remember – every kid matters every day.

DANCE GROUP Many thanks to Mrs Kirk for her great choreography and organisation of our TEPS dance group to audition for the Central Coast Dance Group. Good luck and our fingers are crossed! THE LIONS CLUB Many, many thanks to our wonderful school supporters – The Entrance Lions Club and Bob Dunne. The Lions Club have provided the school with a massive $3300 for our ‘For the Love of Reading Program’. We are so very lucky to have your continued support to improve the outcomes for students in our school. NAPLAN This week, we are completing NAPLAN online practice tests (all on a computer). Year 3 completed theirs on Tuesday and did a wonderful job. Well done, Year 3! Year 5 will complete theirs later in the week. NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy – important skills that each child needs to succeed in school and life. The NAPLAN tests are designed to help us make sure students are on track with their literacy and numeracy development. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN tests for reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. Between 14th – 24th May, our school will participate in NAPLAN Online. Students do not need to be computer experts to take the NAPLAN test online. Making sure students have computer skills is part of our school curriculum, and our teachers will ensure your child is familiar with the online format. To see the types of questions and interactive features of NAPLAN Online, visit the public demonstration site. If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher. For more info:

• How to support your child during NAPLAN • information for parents and carers • Watch a video that explains NAPLAN Online • Subscribe to ACARA’s monthly parent newsletter, Parent Update

MINDFULNESS Next term the whole school will be participating in 8 Mindfulness lessons. These lessons are being taught by Mindfulness Instructors Julie Bell and Carol Johnston from Conscious Evolution Coaching Services, and in partnership with The Benevolent Society, Wyong Communities for Children and Safe Hands Family Services. Julie and Carol will be running a parent information session on Tuesday 9th April at 9:20am at our school. They will be sharing some great tips on how Mindfulness can be used at home to encourage calm and restful sleeping. We look forward to seeing you there.

Have a wonderful fortnight The Entrance Public School. Be kind to each other and aim HIGH! I have treasured my time here and wish you all the very best. Nicole Heazlewood - Acting Principal

Stage 1 News Over the last couple of weeks, I have been fortunate enough to pop into each of the Stage One classrooms for a little visit. I was very impressed with the quality of work happening in each of the rooms. I would like to thank the amazing team of Stage One teachers who go above and beyond every day to provide our children with quality and engaging learning experiences. We have a very busy end of term so please ensure you pop these events on your calendar:

• Dreaming Day – Friday 5th April • Passport 2 Party – Wednesday 10th April • Easter Hat Parade (Parents most welcome) – Thursday 11th April • ANZAC Day Assembly – Friday 12th April • Last Day of Term One – Friday 12th April.

EASTER HAT PARADE Our school Easter Hat Parade is being held on Thursday 11th April. Parents and family members are invited to attend this fun event. For this event to be a success, we ask that children make an Easter hat at home to wear at the parade. Please do not put chocolate eggs on the hats as this causes issues with melting and allergies for some students. Students are asked to bring their hats in on the day, but may bring them to leave in the classroom beforehand, if preferred. We look forward to seeing you at the parade. I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Tuesday 30th April for another fantastic term. Have a wonderful week and a very happy Easter! Ms Andrews, Mrs Canobie, Mrs McFarlane, Mrs Knowles, Miss Cooper, Mrs Kelaher and Mrs Hobson

Stage 2 News

Week 10 already! This brings us to the final newsletter for Term 1, 2019. Stage 2 Camp is fast approaching. Camp dates are: Wednesday 29th May to Friday 31st May, Week 5, Term 2 at Active Outdoor Camps Morisset. Medical notes are now due, please fill these out and return to your child’s class teacher as soon as possible, so any individual needs can be accommodated. Progress payments of any amount can be made anytime, at the office, throughout this term. If you have any queries about camp contact the office to organise to speak with Mrs Duncan. For The Love of Reading We are very fortunate at TEPS to be so generously supported by The Entrance Lions Club. For the past 3 years, Mr Bob Dunne and the Entrance Branch have donated funds to encourage our Stage 2 students to establish a love of reading. Each student will be choosing 2 books from a huge range of quality texts, purchased by The Lions Club to keep and read at home. Children are encouraged to read these texts and add them to their Home Reading logs. This program ensures every child in Stage 2, has access to quality texts at home! Whole School Assembly - This Friday 5th April in the hall, starting at 9.30am. All parents and carers are welcome to attend. Put your Name on it A reminder that with the cooler mornings and afternoons approaching, please ensure all school jumpers and jackets are clearly labelled with both the children’s name and class. As the day warms up, children regularly remove their jumpers and labelling assists with returning items to their rightful owners. HEAD LICE cases have increased across Stage 2 students over the past couple of weeks. The only way to eradicate these outbreaks is through regular head checks and treatment as required for every child. Unfortunately, it only takes a few live lice or missed eggs to spark a new infestation. Please check your child’s hair daily and treat with recommended lice treatments before returning to school. Have a happy and safe break with your family and friends over the school holidays and we look forward to seeing you all back refreshed and ready to learn, on Tuesday 30th of April, for Term 2 2019.

4/5A have been studying the book, "My Mother's eyes" by Mark Wilson. As part of our study we produced some amazing stories about War. Here are a few examples from the talented and very clever students in 4/5A

Happy Easter! Stage 2 Teachers Mrs Haslam, Ms Ambrose, Mrs Robinson, Mrs Kirk and Mrs Duncan

Stage 3 News Dear Parents/ Caregivers,

Due to weather, our Year 6 group’s excursion to Rumbalara has been postponed to Term 2 Monday 6th May. If your child was meant to attend with this group, their spot is secure. The office will not be accepting any more payments for this excursion.

Easter Hat Parade

This will be the last year for Year 6 to be part of the Easter Hat Parade. We encourage all Stage 3 students to create an Easter Hat at home to be worn on this day. Stage 3 students will be walking with a buddy for the parade. We hope that our big kids get into the Easter spirit for the sake of our little kids!

School Uniform

As the weather begins to cool, students are beginning to bring jackets or hoodies that are not part of the school uniform. It is important for our seniors to always be in school uniform. If your child does not have a school jumper or jacket, please let me know so that I can have one organised.

As this is our last newsletter for this term, I’d like to wish you a wonderful end of term break. Enjoy your time with your children!

A few more things…

● Please have notes for sporting activities and excursions completed, signed and handed in by the due date. This is important for us as we create risk management plans for all school activities.

● Please ensure to notify the school of any absences. ● No mobile phones in school. If your child needs to bring a phone it can be left in the office.

Kind regards,

Miss Martinez (Rel. AP Stage 3), Mrs Bayfield, Miss Clarke, Miss Dawson, Mrs Hyslop, Mrs Ambrose and Mr McInnes.

Learning & Support Team News VISION SCREENING The Vision Screening took place on Monday 11th March. If your child was screened you would have received their results by now. ONLY 50 children were able to be screened on the day. Local Optometrists EyecarePlus will be returning to the school to screen more children in Term 2. If you are concerned about your child's eyesight, you do not have to wait for the next screening, you can book a full vision assessment at any optometrist. Most optometrists will bulk bill children so all you will need is a current Medicare card. EyecarePlus in Long Jetty and Bateau Bay bulk bill children's vision assessments and can be contacted on 4332 0032. HEARING SCREENING The Hearing Screening Tests have been taking place over the last fortnight. Students were selected for these screening tests based on results of previous assessments in the areas of speech, language and learning. Results are distributed on the day of the test or the following day. If you received results requiring further action, it is best to take the report to your GP and they will be able to point you in the right direction.
