This year, because we are unfortunately not able to have parents or volunteers helping with school events, we are going to do things slightly differently. Next Tuesday morning, well have the running events on the boom oval. This includes 25m races for our youngest students, right up to the longer races. Students should bring plenty of water in their own bole (please remember they are not able to drink from the school bubblers at present). Students in Years 3 - 6 are currently pracsing high jump, long jump, discus and shot put. Next term, finals for these events will be held each week at school. Although we would love to have the Carnival with all our families there to help and support, at least this way well be able to hold the compeon safely, even without helpers, and students will be able to accrue the necessary points towards the sports prizes at the end of the year. A note about the running races has gone home today. PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS Educaon is a three-way partnership between student, school and home. We hope everyone has taken the opportunity to book a me for a phone interview with their childs class teacher. The booking system will open again on Friday 11 September to allow bookings for next week, however you may also call the school office to book a me with 24 hours noce of the appointment. At the scheduled me, the teacher will contact you on the phone number you have provided. If youre using a mobile phone, please ensure that you are in a spot with good recepon before the interview starts. SAFETY FIRST - TREE REMOVAL REQUIRED Each year, the Department of Educaon does an audit of trees on school sites to make sure that any risks are detected and minimised. Earlier this year, both the large hoop pines near the Rowlands Creek Road fenceline were idenfied as being potenal safety risks - one due to a lightning strike directly on the tree, and the other because of a fungal infecon. Since the original audit, the tree with the fungal infecon has deteroriated at a much faster rate than ancipated. Several members of the local community have contacted me to express concern about the tree, and two more inspecons have been done by arborists. We have reluctantly decided to have the tree removed because of the rapid rate of deterioraon and the risk this may pose to students, staff and members of the public who live and walk near the site. At the moment, we are pursuing quotes for the tree removal. When this is done, Ill advise the school and wider community of the scheduled removal date. The tree is a significant tree, and decisions such as this are not taken lightly. In line with best pracce, suitable replacement trees will be planted.

YEAR 5 DRAMA While Year 6 students are having their ‘SuperMe’ sessions with Kat and Lana from The Family Centre, I’ve been having great fun with all the Year 5 students in drama lessons each week. We’ve been learning about using voice, movement and imagination to create effective scenes. Students are also learning about being thoughtful audience members, who are able to view a performance and give constructive feedback. These concepts are integral to the drama section of the Creative Arts syllabus. Here are some students creating a ‘tableau’, where they’re learning how to position themselves on a stage in relation to each other to create one ‘picture’.
