Message from the Manager

Kevin O’Laughlin, CCM Club Manager

The spring and summer activity here at the Club has gotten off to an unusually rocky start this year with a mixed bag of weather. This has had a significant impact on rounds of golf played, and has limited the start of seasonal activities throughout the Club. Hopefully Mother Nature will be a little more cooperative later in July and throughout the rest of the summer season so that you can all enjoy the activities we have planned for you.

Final plans are underway for our annual “MHCC Fireworks Party” on Friday, July 1st. Again this year we will have a designated area set up on the southwest end of the clubhouse that will be geared specifically for children ages 2-6 with pony rides, games inflatables and a dunk tank. We look forward to Zambelli providing another spectacular fireworks display. By the time you receive this issue of the Newsette you will only have a couple of days left to reserve your table. Don’t miss the best event of the season!

Attention All Fireworks Party Attendees! All those attending the Fireworks Party are required to have a wristband to enter the property. This year when you arrive at MHCC you will need to check in at registration at the main entrance to pick up your wristbands. You and each of your guests must have a wristband on to eat, participate in activities, utilize bar services and to view the fireworks display. All staff, security personnel, and game attendants will be enforcing the wrist band policy again this year. Thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to be fair to everyone.

It’s amazing how quickly the summer season passes by. Soon school will be back in session and Fall activities will begin. Then before we know it, the holiday season will be upon us. Although it may seem early, now is the time to book your family or company holiday event here at the club. Several prime dates are still available for your choosing. Please call Kelly in the Catering Office for availability.

I would like to welcome those new members who have just joined us recently and hope that you are enjoying the facilities here at Meridian Hills. If you have not yet had an opportunity to schedule your new member orientation, contact Lisa Strachota our Director of Membership, or myself to schedule a time. This is a very informative opportunity to take a detailed tour and learn about all we do at Meridian Hills.

As the Summer continues, please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your experience here at the Club more enjoyable.

Enjoy the rest of the Summer!

Kevin

Volunteers Needed for the 2012 BMW Championship

In 2012 the BMW Championship will move from its traditional home in Chicago, IL to Carmel, IN and will be played at Crooked Stick Golf Club September 3-9. The BMW Championship is the third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The Top 70 PGA TOUR players in FedEx Cup points will be invited to participate. Players expected to compete include Ernie Els, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Anthony Kim, Phil Mickelson, Camilo Villegas, and Tiger Woods. The 2012 BMW Championship will mark the first time since the 1991 PGA Championship that the PGA TOUR has competed on Hoosier soil. All proceeds from the tournament go to the Western Golf Association’s sole beneficiary, the Evans Scholars Foundation, which awards over 800 college scholarships to deserving young men and women caddies each year. You can be a part of the action by registering as a 2012 BMW Championship Volunteer. There are a limited number of positions available, so make sure to reserve your spot today! Registration instructions are listed below: • Visitwww.2012BMWVolunteers.com• Clickonthegray“RegisterNow”buttonontheleftsideofthescreen• Createausernameandpassword• CompleteaseriesofregistrationquestionsasdirectedVolunteers are asked to purchase the Championship Volunteer Package and are encouraged to work 3-4 shifts of approximately 5 hours at a time. Scheduling will take place in the spring of 2012. Please note that committees will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and committee assignments can only be given to paid volunteers. Committee descriptions and volunteer package details can be found at www.2012BMWVolunteers.com. Thank you so much for your support! We hope you plan on joining us for this very special event.

For information on hospitality and ticket packages, please visit BMWChampionshipUSA.com and click on the 2012 BMW Championship link.

I would like to thank everyone for taking an interest in the golf hole assignments. I have noticed a definite improvement of ball marks being repaired and divots being replaced. Just please remember to push in towards the center of the ball mark with the tool and never pry up. I would also like to thank the membership for the divot patterns they are taking on the range tee. I see fewer and fewer patches being taken which is resulting in quicker recovery.

On the golf course we have added a few new French drains to aid in drainage. You do get relief from these gravel trenches when it interferes with your stance or lie with no penalty. Over time they will grow closed and be less unsightly. I have also added a yardage reflector on the hazard stake on the left pond on nine. Now you can shoot the closest hazard stake on the tee end of the fairway to find your yardage to the water hazards on holes four and nine.

As always please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just wave me down on the course. I am hoping the weather changes soon to something more conducive for golf.

Sincerely,Jim HessGolf Course Superintendent
