Message from the Manager

Kevin O’Laughlin, CCM Club Manager

Spring is just around the corner and as we begin gearing up for the 2011 season, I would like to take an opportunity to thank our dedicated staff. The MHCC staff is continuously striving to make every experience at the Club for our members and guests the best it can be. Our employees are proud of the work they do, the relationships they have developed with our members, and are equally proud of being a part of the MHCC staff.

I would especially like to recognize our veteran employees who have been with the club at least 5 years. They are certainly a big part of the success of Meridian Hills Country Club.

Membership UpdateThe Membership Committee and Board of Directors have devoted a lot of their focus in the past few months to membership. In this process, I took myself back to the time when I became a member. My friends encouraged me to join and today I am forever grateful for doing so. I have developed a tremendous number of friendships and clients through my involvement in the Club. Like me, you became a member of the club as a result of an existing member’s referral. Now it is your role and responsibility to do the same. As you use the Club and share this aspect of your lives with friends and associates, they then have the opportunity to join and create their own part of our continuing legacy.

Just as our Board of Directors and Club governance stands committed to solidifying the foundation begun 88 years ago, your participation, at whatever level you choose, continues the tradition and legacy that we proudly call Meridian Hills Country Club.

Golf UpdateContinued Technology in golf Instruction & Club Fitting for 2011Each year, technology is playing a growing role in instruction and the game of golf. Our staff at Meridian Hills is proud to offer two of the best programs when it comes to the golf technology. Read about them below:

is a 3-D, state of the art ball flight radar tracking device that provides services far beyond the traditional launch monitor. Based off technology that was used to develop underwater missiles, it measures the flight and spin of the golf ball through it’s entire flight providing the significant

measurements for your perfect club fitting. The days of guessing which driver performed the best are over!

Jack Barber’s Golf Shop has recently purchased the newest version of the V1 Pro Advantage Golf Video Program. V1 is regarded as the #1 video swing analysis system in golf. Thousands of golfers’ swings are analyzed each year and improved through the use of V1. It is the preferred swing analysis system by the world’s best tour players, collegiate golfers, golf academies, and most of America’s Top 100 Instructors.

Why Video is suggested for ALL LEVELS:Video has long been considered a supplement to the better player’s instruction and for the more dedicated student, but video can help any player at any level. In a traditional lesson setting, your instruction session is recorded for review. During review, it is often much easier for the player to understand their mistakes and what they are trying accomplish through different charts, diagrams, lines being drawn, and even comparisons to a tour players set-up, swing, etc. The review session also allows for the instructor and student to spend more time discussing the lesson with the material right at their fingertips. If you haven’t tried a video lesson, our staff suggests it. Remember, it can be as thorough or basic as the student prefers!

Enhancing your Club Fitting Experience…Jack Barber’s Golf Shop is now able to offer you the best technology available in golf club fitting. After creating a player profile, we’ll be able to find your best fit for not only your driver, but fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and even your golf ball. Several club options can be tested and compared in the database by looking at 3D imagery of the different clubs’ ball flights, distances, launch, spin, club head speed, ball speed, vertical/ horizontal attack angles, club face angle, and many more!

New golf Equipment for 2011The 2011 season is going to be an EXCITING one for golf club technology. Jack Barber’s Golf Shop will carry product from Titleist, Callaway, Ping, Cobra, and Taylor Made. Jack will again offer a huge supply of demo product for you to try at your convenience. At the Merchandise Show, the staff and I were able to view and test new product from all of our vendors, and there were a few notable items I’ll share with you: - Callaway Golf launches the new Diablo Octane and RAZR woods. Each line uses technology that was co-developed with the supercar maker Lamborghini. The woods are made using forged composite, which is 1/3 the weight of titanium, yet is stronger and lighter. The sole and crown of the RAZR driver in particular has more than 23 million turbostratic carbon fibers that reduce the weight significantly. Lighter, stronger, faster = More distance. - Callaway Golf also introduces the RAZR and RAZR Tour Irons, which we must stay are VERY IMPRESSIVE. The top line and look are super clean, and the sole configuration is much like that of a razor blade, allowing for great feel at impact. The best iron Callaway has produced in years! - Titleist has launched their new 910 line, featuring interdependent lie and face angle adjustments through two bearings at the hosel of the club. Another feature is the brushed black satin finish on the faces of the drivers, fw’s and hybrids. This is quite a surprise from Titleist, and it won’t disappoint you when you try it! Our master staff professional, Jack Barber says, “This is the best driver I have ever hit! It feels and sounds like a driver should feel.” - Taylor Made has launched a similar product to the R9, only in a WHITE FINISH! The new R11 woods are something the golf industry has never seen before. While it’s different, most of their tour players have put the new driver in play and are saying good things. Who would have thought?

Congrats to the Meridian Hills players listed below for stepping up against the top in the country!

Dr. Matt French, Pete French, Ryan Snow, Dr. Johannes Tauscher, Dr. Steven Stitle, Dr. Pat Kersey, Bryan Barrett, Andrew Held, Ron Mencias, Jim Siegel, Andrew Hamilton, Steve Webster, Joe Brougher, Brad Cooper, Haydon Hapak, Tim Hull and John Lewis. Also congratulations to Steve Webster who won the 50 & over bracket.
