Sincerely,Jim Dodson

Jim Dodson Club President

A member of the Club was disappointed with the service at the pool last year. Meridian Hills had outsourced the life guard and pool management to an organization specializing in pool operations, and their service level wasn’t as good as what we had come to expect.

Hearing the comment, I asked our General Manager, Steve Roper not to renew the contract and allow a group of members who utilize the pool to talk about their concerns. At the same time, I asked the member who brought up the problem to take on the responsibility of the Pool Committee and build an active committee to help implement changes. Jennifer Schaefer, and her committee, have worked incredibly hard at improving the pool. I have heard many compliments about the changes made and how much fun families are having poolside.

You may not realize that we have nearly 75 members who actively volunteer in some capacity at the Club: volunteers train caddies, volunteers recruit new members, volunteers aid our professional staff and how they organize events and manage the Club, volunteers serve on each of our standing committees.

When I was first asked to be on our Board of Directors, I regretted. I thought of Meridian Hills as my sanctuary and didn’t want to hear complaints or solve problems, as I deal with those types of issues during my business day. I am so glad that I was asked a second year, as I have made great friends through active participation.

My point with this message is to encourage you to volunteer. Members actively participating in our governance and committee structure is vital to our success and has long been a trademark of Meridian Hills. So be like Jennifer and jump in and join a committee, it’s a bunch of fun.

OUR NEWEST ADDITIONOur biggest congratulations to Joe & Ginger Miller, our

executive chef & his wife, who welcomed Edward Joseph Miller

into the world on June 16th, 2015 at 12:20pmHe weighed 8lbs, 10oz and was 22 inches long. Edward joins siblings John Patrick (6), Eva (5),

Quentin (3), & Violette (20 months).

11 ~ Club Information

Despite the weather, the annual fireworks “July 4th” celebration was held Friday, June 26th. All members, families and guests were accommodated inside the clubhouse, or under the tents on the back patio. Children’s activities were available under the tent, in the pool screened porch and under the front of the clubhouse when it was not raining. The staff was outstanding in very difficult conditions and the membership was grateful and appreciative. With so many vendors involved and details in set-up, rescheduling was impossible. So thank you to all the members who were so kind and understanding, and to the staff who were simply THE BEST!

The new patio bar was christened and will be available for private parties, club events, and golf events. A new fire pit has been installed on the patio for your enjoyment and relaxation under the stars.

The pool bar has received much activity. It is open Thursday through Sunday, noon until 7:00 p.m., and until 8:00 p.m. on Friday & Saturday. If you happen to notice any Club towels in your items at home, please turn them in at your earliest convenience. We greatly appreciate it.

Adult swim party nights are scheduled for July 11th, July 25th & August 8th. At this time the pool will be closed to children. We will schedule an activity for the kids. To ensure that adequate staff and space is available, we will request that you make a reservation.

Since the pool opening party was such a success, we will be holding an end of season “Pool Party” for the entire family. Once a date is finalized more details will be sent out.

A note on membership: membership is the lifeblood of any club, without a strong membership base, amenities and services cannot be held to the high standards that make a club “a great place to belong.” New memberships have been very active these last few months. We are just now getting in the plus column for net gains in certain categories. Annual attrition at the club is generally 40 a year, give or take a few. Therefore, we have to attract 40 or so new members/families to just remain status quo. While it may seem at times that it is unusually active at the club, it probably is. But not as a result of too many new members, but a more active membership. I hope you would agree, that’s a good thing!

See you at the club!
