Morning Prayer or Lauds is one of the official prayers of the church from The Liturgy of the Hours which is a daylong cycle.
Holy Child has a small, dedicated group who assemble daily at 8:30 a.m. to pray this “hour” together. It lasts approximately 20 minutes and has the added benefit of recollecting the mind before mass at 9.
Daily mass goers are encouraged to experience this prayer liturgy before the Eucharistic liturgy. Others who wish only to engage in this session of prayer are welcomed to do so.

Do not hesitate or be afraid to come forward, but do as Mary did and give your “yes”. Remember, Mary was a teenaged girl when she gave her YES, and Joseph was many years her senior when he too gave his yes. Let Mary speak to your heart.

Dear Father Travers,
It is with deep appreciation and sincere gratitude that the entire staff here at The Child Study Center of New York Preschool send the parishioners a heartfelt “Thank You” for making this Christmas season one to remember.
The smiles on the children’s faces told the story of Christmas Joy as they received their special gifts from Santa. Your thoughtfulness and generosity made it all possible for the children to enjoy in the season of Christmas.
Once again, a sincere “Thank You” to each and every parishioner who participated in making this a special Christmas to remember!
Happy Holidays to all.
Sincerely,
Janet Williams Janet Williams Program Director

for switching out the missalettes for the New Year of Grace that began on the First Sunday of Advent is to use them properly.
In days of old, people would bring their own missal to church so as to follow along while the priest said Mass quietly in Latin. Now missals are provided in the pews.
As previously noted, our new sound system adequately amplifies the proclamation of the scriptures which nowadays are in the vernacular.
As such, the Liturgy of the Word is an aural or hearing experience. It is not meant to be a visual experience. We should allow the wonderful faculty of hearing to be independently engaged at that time. However, the hearing capacity of some individuals may necessitate the visual aid provided by the missalette but this is not generally the case.
The missalette can be most helpful if we need visual support in following and partici-pating in The Responsorial Psalm.
Besides the scripture readings, the missalette publication contains a wide variety of hymns. As such, the current missalette does double duty: it is half “hymnette”.
Hymns are not background music for daydreaming or conversation. They are poems set to music for all to sing, an opportunity for all to take part in the celebration. They are selected and posted for participation because they reinforce the scriptural message of the day.
If one is tone deaf or too shy to sing, the missalette (or, in this case, hymnette) should be taken in hand nevertheless so as to follow along with the words which are communicating the message of the day in another modality.
Our proper use of this worship aid shows appreciation to the parish that has provided it, the folks who placed it and the Music Department which employs it so that we might give thanks to God for the voices we hear and the voices we use.
Father Travers
