    foreword

Today, successful firms are establishing growth through all forms of marketing (traditional, social, mobile and viral) in order to deliver exceptional value to empowered customers. New challenges make this one of the most exciting periods in the history of the discipline. More than ever, marketing is essential to the success of companies, and the role of marketing professionals will continue to evolve with new tools and new responsibilities. This is why earning an MS/MSc Marketing degree at HEC Paris is an important step toward a successful career.

The faculty of MS/MSc Marketing at HEC Paris will provide you with a comprehensive curriculum based on both marketing fundamentals and advanced knowledge, with the most up-to-date field developments. • Our ambition is to train our students so that they can readily adapt to new situations. This is why our MS/MSc Marketing aims at enhancing their analytic and strategic skills and providing them with both traditional and up-to-date knowledge regarding marketing issues.

HEC Paris historic expertise in marketingAs France has long been recognized for fashion, luxury and a large number of premium brands (LOral Paris, Pernod Ricard, etc.), it comes as no surprise that one key asset of HEC Paris has always been its expertise in the field of marketing. In fact, as the leading Business School in France, HEC Paris has constantly fueled with talents and innovative ideas leading global companies in French areas of excellence, such as Luxury (cf. chair with kering, focused on Luxury strategies), Cosmetics and fashion at large (cf. Leadership Center with LOral Paris), Premium brand management (cf. chair with Pernod Ricard), Aerospace (cf. chair with Safran) Today, HEC Paris expertise in marketing benefits to all sectors, both in France and on a global scale, from the most traditional one to the most modern one, including for instance the digital and entrepreneurship area (cf. the Google chair and the Digital Innovation for Business chair).

a balanced combination of theory and applicationsThe objective of the program is to equip students with the necessary knowledge and techniques that will enable them to successfully solve a broad set of marketing problems. With that objective in mind, the Marketing faculty is composed both of academics who publish top notch research and of recognized professionals who bring with them a wealth of real-world cases.

strong connections with the business and marketing communityParticipants will be given frequent opportunities to interact with key players from the business world through conferences, workshops, projects, internships and career fairs organized on campus. They will also be given the chance to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice through business cases with well-known companies, offering them an invaluable opportunity to enrich their skills.

TWO TRACkS WITH EqUAL CAREER OPPORTUNITIES BUT DIFFERENT BACkGROUNDS The business track is aimed at recent graduates with a degree

from a top institution in domains related to business administration, management, applied economics, or equivalent. They should have taken at least introductory level courses in Marketing.

The accelerated track is designed for students with no business related academic background who have received first class education in other fields such as engineering, law, life science, medical studies (etc.)

students from both tracks are offered equal career opportunities at the end of the program.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE MS/MSc Marketing courses take place from September to April. Students already holding a Masters degree can stop in April to finish

their professional thesis and fulfill a professional experience. Other students continue courses until June within one of the HEC certificates (cf. p 13 and 14).

Between September and April, the curriculum of the program is made up of a set of compulsory core courses that will provide our students with all the necessary tools and knowledge required to successfully address todays main marketing challenges. As these core courses are the foundations our students need to develop their expertise in marketing, they are mainly offered during the first quarter.

The second and third quarters aim to provide our students with a strong added value in the areas of their choice thanks to electives: on specific sectors such as luxury, health care or consultancy on specific topics for which they may wish to have a deeper insight.

Finally, all students must write a master thesis and fulfill a 4 month professional experience requirement in order to graduate.

  • MANAGEMENT FOUNDATION COURSESFor students in Accelerated Track only.

These courses cover the core disciplines in management sciences.

JOB MARkET WORkSHOPSJob market workshops aim to better prepare students for their job search and cover topics like CV presentation, assessment centers and handling interviews.

HANDS-ON SEMINARSDuring an entire week, students will dedicate themselves to these group-based studies. They will be asked to defend their analysis of a concrete, current issue raised by a company. The group recommendations will be presented in front of company managers and faculty members.Examples include DigiAd Seminar, Business Model Reinvention Seminar, Capturing New Frontiers Seminar in close partnership with LOral, EDF, Procter & Gamble, DDB, Axa Global Insurance, Capgemini Consulting

LIVE CASES-STUDIESStudents will have many opportunities to work with companies on live cases for instance with LOral Paris, Procter & Gamble, EDF...

PREPARATORY INTENSIVE FRENCH COURSESStudents do not need to speak French to enroll in the program as all core courses and most electives are offered in English. However, some knowledge of French can be useful to enjoy the full HEC experience, become professionally bicultural and optimize networking with French students and alumni. This is why HEC Paris offers French language classes free of charge to its international students. Students may also register for a two week French language course (TEF certificate all levels) in August. This is an exceptional opportunity to learn French before joining the Campus.

MASTER THESIS Students must write a master thesis to graduate from this program. It represents an important component of the MSc learning experience. The objective of the thesis is to explore cutting-edge research implementation in daily practice within a highly competitive marketing environment.

PROFESSIONAL ExPERIENCE The professional experience requirement is satisfied when the student completes a professional experience of at least 4 months in related fields subsequent to coursework at HEC Paris. It is, however, important to stress that this professional experience may not be an internship per se. Our policy at HEC Paris is that the best type of internship is a full-time job! We strongly encourage our students to look for permanent hiring starting as soon as the coursework period is over.

MS vs. MSc MS (Mastre Spcialis) and MSc are two degrees accredited by the French Confrence des Grandes Ecoles. They differ in two main aspects: eligibility requirements and length of study. An MS is a postgraduate degree

which requires having obtained a Masters degree prior to joining HEC. It corresponds to 75 ECTS credits.

An MSc is a graduate degree open to students having obtained a Bachelor degree outside France or having obtained an M1 degree in France. It corresponds to 90 ECTS credits.

The main implication for the program is that students pursuing an MS degree do not need to take courses from a HEC certificate to graduate. They are thus available to start a full-time job as early as mid-April.
