Fit and Fun Bring your child to the YMCA for a fun time of gym, fitness, swim lessons, art and to meet new children their age to enrich their lives.

PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONSOur parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are used to build the child’s self-confidence in and out of the water. Parents learn from the instructor’s example how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:• Shrimp (6-8 months) Child can control their head and sit with support

from the hands.

• Kipper (9-12 months) Child can sit without hand support and stand with support from the hands.

• Inia (13-18 months) Child can stand without support and walk with or without support or aid.

• Perch (19-36 months) Child can run and jump.

Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONSThese programs offer children their first experience in the water without a parent. Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming, including water propulsion, floating, body awareness and independence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety and pool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of various instructional flotation devices.

Level 1: Pike (Ages 3-5) The first level is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also learn kicking skills and grow comfortable with putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to jump into the water without assistance and float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and sides for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float for 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also be able to paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and for 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to front and back float for 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards with an IFD, and for 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards with an IFD, and for 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to jump in the water without assistance and float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should also be able to paddle on front, back and sides for 25 yards with an IFD and for 15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive, basic front crawl with rotary breathing for 25 yards, basic breaststroke for 25 yards, backstroke for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 25 yards, basic sidestroke for 25 yards and tread water for 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds without an IFD, front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to be able to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without, do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without, back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without, and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without.

PLAY TOGETHER.Y FAMILY PROGRAMS.Learn, laugh and spend time together during fun activities that promote health and well-being for everyone. Serving families has always been at the heart of the Y. We have a fundamental desire to provide opportunities for every family to build stronger bonds, achieve greater work/life balance, become more engaged with their communities and have fun.

Y ADVENTURE GUIDES & Y TRAILBLAZERSY Adventure Guides (K-5 grade) & Y Trailblazers (NEW! 6-8 grade) Calling all fathers & sons! Y Adventure Guides & Y Trailblazers are family programs designed to promote father/son bonding activities for a father and his son. In Y Adventure Guides & Y Trailblazers, parents lead, influence and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them. They lead by example as they set their children on a path through life.

Programs run August-May.

FAMILY NIGHTSThe Elmhurst YMCA understands the importance of spending quality time with family. That’s why we have regularly scheduled family events throughout the year to keep your family busy, happy and healthy.

Events are open to members and the community.

PARENTS NIGHT OUTLooking to have a special night out with your spouse or friends without the guilt? The Y offers Parents Night Out each month to help you get the special time you need while your child has a great time playing and meeting new friends.

When: Friday September 9, October 14, November 11 and December 9.Time: 6:30-9 p.m.Ages: 3-12Cost: $10 per child for members, $20 per child for non-members

SAVE THE DATE - HALLOWEEN at the Y!®

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21 6:30-9 p.m.Join us for a frighteningly fun-filled event for the whole family. Bring your friends and neighbors, too! Activities include games, haunted house, trick or treating and more! This event is open to the community so, bring your friends and neighbors!

$5 per family members and non-members at the door. Pre-registration is encouraged by calling 630.834.9200.

SPECIAL EVENTS AND PARTY RENTALSCelebrate your birthday party, bar/bat mitzvah, group outing or family reunion with us. If you’re looking for a splash-tastic time, the pool is available during open swim time as well as after hours. Lifeguards and a building supervisor will be provided. Inflatable available per request.

SCHOOL DAYS OUT & WINTER BREAK CAMPKeeping kids safe and engaged when school is out.

Looking for a child care option when your kids are out of school due to a school holiday, weather closing or winter or spring break? When school’s out, the Y is there to keep kids safe and engaged in fun, healthy activities. Our School Days Out options are designed to engage children in healthy physical activity and foster positive social interactions. Our programs offer the highest-quality instruction and supervision, provided by trained and qualified staff members.

Activities will include swimming, field trips, arts and crafts, gym, games, ice skating (winter season) and so much more.

Cost: $55 members per day/ $110 non members per day

Basketball Clinic Children will learn how to shoot, dribble and play basketball games.

Floor Hockey Learn the basics of floor hockey and play games.

Sports Fusion Class Your child will be introduced and learn the basic fundamentals of several sports: basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, floor hockey, badminton and pickleball.

Sport Speed and Agility Your athlete will learn how to develop and increase their speed, balance, coordination, core stability, endurance and overall athletic movement control. This class will focus on proper training techniques and overall preparation for the upcoming sports season. Great for pre-season and off-season training, this class is for both beginners and advanced athletes in any sport.

Fall Basketball Leagues place the emphasis on fun, skill development, equal participation, teamwork and sportsmanship. Volunteer coaches will cover the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, defense and shooting, as well as the rules and strategies of the game. Players practice and play games with IHSA certified officials. Teams will practice one day a week and have games one day a week. This league is offered to grades 2-12. Grades 2 and 3 are coed.

Winter Basketball (YBall) Are you looking for an opportunity for your child to learn the fundamentals of basketball while competing in a fun and friendly environment? Then our YBall league is the perfect fit for you and your family. Our YBall leagues are focused on developing your child's skills and overall enjoyment for the sport of basketball. Teams will have experienced and trained coaches, with IHSA-certified referees for every game, for all age levels. All teams will have one practice a week and one game a week, with a playoff tournament at the end of the year. Estimated 10-14 total games.

Registration begins July 1.

Late Fee: A $25 late fee will be applied for all registrations after November 22, 2016.

Coed Fall Volleyball The YMCA offers a fun and competitive environment that is suitable for all players. Teams will practice once a week and have games once a week. The players will learn skills such as bumping, setting, passing and serving. This league is offered to grades 3-5 and 6-8.

Coed Fall Flag Football A great way to learn the game of football without the contact. Players will learn a variety of skills including but not limited to blocking, catching, running, learning plays and flag pulling. This league is offered to grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-6.

NEW YBall Referral Program! If you refer a NEW player to join our YBall league, they will receive a $10 discount towards their league fee! Plus, the referrer will receive a $10 discount towards their league fees. Only one $10 discount can be added to the referrers league fees, but can refer an unlimited amount of NEW players to join our YBall leagues.

Kids Yoga An uplifting, non-competitive, mind-expanding and fun way for kids to build strength, spirit and self-esteem.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water for 1 minute.

Level 5: Flying Fish In the Flying Fish class, swimmers will learn to do a flip turn; swim front crawl 100 yards with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly. Goldfish This program is for participants who need more individualized attention and practice time and has 3-to-1 ratio of participants to instructors. The class uses equipment appropriate for students needing extra support and assistance. Class instructors are trained Adaptive Aquatics instructors with experience working with and teaching mainstream, semi-private and private classes for individuals with special needs.

Jr. Dolphins This class helps develop stroke technique. It’s a swim workout for the advanced swimmer who would like to continue with a swim program and are not currently interested in swim team, are contemplating joining a team or are currently on a swim team and would like to swim between seasons to stay conditioned. Must be able to swim all strokes for a minimum of 200 yards, do flip turns and tread water. Also includes water sports, games and a safety component.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONSPrivate Lessons: Age 3 and up. This package includes 6 lessons that are 30 minutes in length.

Partner Lessons: Age 3 and up. This package includes 6 lessons that are 30 minutes in length. Participants must be at comparable levels. Minimum of 2 participants. Note: we do not set up swim partners. Be sure to include the name of the person/s that you are swimming with on your form.

Small Group Lessons: Ages 6-12. Design your own class! We’ll work with you to choose your time and day. Package includes 6 lessons, 40 minutes in length. Participants must be at comparable levels. Class size includes a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 participants.

Circuit City #TeenEdition This Circuit City class is specifically designed for 13-15 year olds looking to improve their strength, cardio and flexibility, whether for a sport or just overall fitness. Done in circuit-training fashion, this class uses TRX suspension ropes, slam balls, treadmills, spin bikes, kettlebells and much more to bring your performance to the next level.

Synchronized Swimming This class combines rhythmic swimming and gymnastics in the water - all set to music. Must be able to swim 25 yards on front and back.

Teen Fluid Running This 30-minute class is a great way to cross-train if you’re a runner, have an injury or just want a great workout. It is a deep-water running class that provides all the benefits of running on land and more, without any impact. This class is great for building muscular strength, working legs, core and arms, improving strength and speed.

Water Sports This program is for youth and teens ages 9-13 that are looking for pool fun outside of swim lessons. Water Sports will take the skills developed during swim lessons and apply them in aquatic recreation, including but not limited to fitness sports and in-house fun competitions. *Must be able to swim without a swim aid and pass the deep-water swim test.

Y CIRCUIT CITYThis class is the cure for your regular fitness routine and brings a high tech touch to a traditional fitness class by combining intervals of sprints and climbs on the treadmill with strength training. Done in circuit training fashion this class uses TRX® Suspension Ropes, Slam Balls, Kettlebells and much more to bring your workout to the next level.

If you’re ready to soldier through this grueling class, you’ll burn calories and tone your entire physique.

This class is suitable for all fitness levels and no experience is necessary.

THE SPACEY Circuit City offers small classes, 5 people maximum, in a comfortable studio equipped with treadmills, spin bikes, trx straps, weights, and more.

Adult Basketball League The YMCA’s men’s basketball leagues are a great way to get out and let loose on the court. For more information, please contact Nick Cronin at [email protected].

Fall Coed Adult Volleyball Our Coed adult volleyball will be a fun and competitive league. Games will be played after the youth league games on Thursdays at a local middle school.

Pickle Ball Clinic Participants will learn the fundamentals of pickle ball, a fun and competitive sport for all ages, a mix between tennis and badminton with low intensity/impact on the body.

SWIM LESSONS It’s never too late to learn how to swim, a vital skill that could save your life. Already know how to swim and want to improve your stroke and hone your skills? The Y has programs to help you do just that.

Adult Beginner This class is for adults who have little-to-no swim experience. The instructor will work with adults both as a group and one-on-one. Participants will learn to swim basic front crawl, elementary backstroke, floating and proper breathing techniques.

Adult Intermediate This class is for adults who have experience with swimming, but need to work on endurance. Participant should be comfortable in the water, be able to float on their front and back, and swim 25 feet front crawl and back crawl. Participants will learn how to swim proper front crawl, back crawl, side stroke and breaststroke.

Fluid Running Deep-water running classes that provide all the benefits of running on land and more, without any impact. It’s a phenomenal full-body workout! The benefits include:

• Improving strength and speed

• It’s fun!

You don’t have to be a runner or an athlete to participate! This class is for everyone comfortable in deep water. Flotation belts are provided. Heart rate monitors and a water bottle are recommended but not required.
