Catch-Up with Katrina
Hello 4-H Families!
Happy Fair Month! I am so excited to see all of your
exhibits in the next few weeks! I know that one of my
favorite parts of the fair is looking at all of the hard
work that everyone has done over the past year and
watching as each 4-Her grows and learns new
things.
We have been busy in the office figuring out all of
the details for the virtual fair and so we greatly
appreciate your patience as we work things out. I
would also like to give a big thank you to all of our
amazing volunteers who have been helping us to
form the virtual fair.
As we get closer to fair week, please do not hesitate
to reach out with any questions about the virtual fair.
We are here to help!

particularly aware of copyright rules. Exhibition of
derivative works created by a 4-H’er is prohibited
without the written permission of the original
copyright holder/ owner. Use of copyrighted or

Extension Office or see 4-H Exhibit Copyright
Information. Ribbon Auction Announcement
Living in the midst of a pandemic has created many changes in our annual summer events. With the health and safety of all in mind, the Muscatine County Fair has been postponed until 2021 and a virtual fair experience has been developed for our Muscatine County 4-H and FFA youth to exhibit what they have learned throughout
the year.
The Ribbon Auction planning process has been delayed as a result of the time necessary to create a virtual fair experience for our youth. We are also very sensitive to the potential financial concerns of our contributors due to the
current economic situation.
For these reasons, it is with regret we inform you that we will not be holding the Muscatine County 4-H & FFA
Ribbon Auction this year.
As we look to the future, we are anxious for the time when we can all gather again to celebrate the many
accomplishments of our Muscatine County youth.
We will reconvene for the 2021 Muscatine County Fair!
Thank you for your understanding,
The Muscatine County 4-H & FFA Ribbon Auction
Committee

Using Pinterest
Pinterest is a popular site for 4-H’ers to use for
gathering ideas for fair exhibits. Make sure to cite the
correct site where you got the idea for your project
and not just Pinterest itself. Please cite your sources
in your write-up or in your goal sheet. Please check
out this document on how to find the correct source
for a project idea found on Pinterest. Goal questions
can found on page 7 of the Muscatine County Fair
Book.
Fair Exhibits
For the 2020 fair season, a few exceptions regarding fair exhibits will be applied. If an exhibitor would like to have a static project judged in-person (e.g. a restored tractor, extensive woodworking project, etc.) they may submit the exhibit in the 2021 Muscatine County Fair. 2020 graduating seniors are welcome to return and show livestock, static, and/or communications exhibits at the 2021 Muscatine County Fair.
Premier Exhibitor
The Premier Exhibitor contest is available to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders showing beef, swine, and sheep at the Muscatine County Virtual Fair Experience. This year, contestants will submit an essay about their livestock projects. Scholarships will be awarded to the top 3 placings in each species. More information can be found here.

Muscatine County 4-H Foundation Online Fundraiser
The 2020 Muscatine County Virtual Fair Experience has created a new opportunity for the community to support the Muscatine County 4-H Foundation!
Each year, our local Foundation pays $5 for each Muscatine County 4-H member’s enrollment fee. Typically, a silent auction is hosted during the fair to help cover that expense.
In the absence of the silent auction, a Muscatine County 4-H Giving Page has been created through the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Supporters of the Muscatine County 4-H Foundation can now give donations online. Funds generated from this page go directly to the Muscatine
County 4-H Foundation account.
The Muscatine County 4-H Foundation invites donors to visit the new giving page and consider a contribution to
support our 4-H youth.
Thank you for your support!

Muscatine County Virtual Fair Results
We are in unchartered territory as we put together this virtual fair experience for the Muscatine County 4-H and FFA youth. It has only been four weeks since we started the process. Our volunteers and staff are doing the very best that we can to provide a quality experience for our youth to exhibit what they have learned this year in a safe environment.
Together with the Muscatine County Fair Board, we have planned to make exhibit results available on the Muscatine County Fair Facebook page on the same schedule the shows are listed in the fair book. It is also important for us to give our volunteer judges as much time as possible to evaluate exhibits and provide feedback for the youth.
As a team, 4-H staff and volunteers have been working hard to get you information and guidelines for our livestock entries as quickly as possible. We understand the deadlines have generated a fast turnaround, but we are working on a short time table.
The COVID pandemic has created many new challenges and opportunities as we all try to navigate our world in the safest way possible. Our 4-H team appreciates your understanding and patience as we continue to create this new experience for our youth.

This Special Edition show will follow all Iowa Department of Public Health and CDC recommendations for social distancing, hand washing and sanitization, so although it will be held in August and on the Iowa State Fairgrounds, you may notice some “special”
considerations for this stand-alone event.
