    Credit & LeadershipCredit Opportunities

Academic credit is an optional, but integral componentof this program based on the philosophy that realworld educational opportunities are often a far moreeffective way of learning than following a conventionalclassroom routine.

Credit earned during the program consists of carefullydesigned interdisciplinary subject base, carrying up to15 upper division semester hours, or the equivalent inquarter hour credits. This is primarily offered inconjunction with Winona State University (WSU),Winona, Minnesota, and grades are transferable to mostuniversities in the US.

Study interests include coursework in EnvironmentalStudies; Group Dynamics; International Tourism;Cultural Comparisons; Eco-tourism; and OutdoorLeadership. For course outlines and credit options referto pacificchallenge.org and click on Credits.

Class syllabi may be viewed on our website by Octoberof each year. Additionally, registered participants whoindicate their interest in taking classes on the registrationform will be sent the full class enrollment packet (withsyllabi and costs) by Winona State University in

October. For questions regarding WSU class syllabi andcosts, please contact Dr. Lorene Olson;[email protected]. Other credit queries should bedirected to [email protected].

Class facilitation follows this modelPre: Academic meeting; assigned readings; preparationresearch/questions.During: Research; journaling; study sessions &discussions; seminars; tests.Post: Completion of coursework; hand in paper

    submissions.

It is the responsibility of each student taking credit todevelop their own work schedules throughout the trip.Program leaders assist in this. You will have access tointernet facilities and libraries to complete researchrequirements.

Please note: As academic credit is optional, tuition costsare additional to the cost of the program.
