Besides preparing for Nationals, Bellville FFA took 24 of its members to Corpus Christi the week of July12-16 to enjoy the Texas FFA State Conven- tion. The Bedrich’s were kind enough to allow the FFA Alumni to use their beau- tiful property to hold our shoot. There were three flights of shooters, each had twenty stations with a total of 100 shoots per person. Sixty-two teams participated in the shoot and enjoyed great food, a raffle, Annie Oakley shooting, and good com- pany. The students helped around the course, keeping scores and pull- ing skeet. 3rd Annual FFA Alumni Skeet Shoot On August 6th, the Bell-ville FFA students helped the Alumni host the Bell-ville FFA Alumni 2010 Sporting Clays Tourna-ment “In Memory of Har-old Luhn.” The shoot was held at the Circle B Ranch in Burleigh, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bedrich. The Bedrich’s were kind

enough to allow the FFA Alumni to use their beau-tiful property to hold our shoot. There were three flights of shooters, each had twenty stations with a total of 100 shoots per person. Sixty-two teams participated in the shoot and enjoyed great food, a raffle, Annie Oakley

shooting, and good com-pany. The students helped around the course, keeping scores and pull-ing skeet. The shoot and raffle was a great success and the alumni will use these funds to provide scholarships for graduat-ing seniors and chapter support.

parents to join the Alumni. Then the greenhands broke into groups where they attended five sessions and learned about all the different oppor-tunities the FFA has to offer from showing, to LDE’s and CDE’s, to schol-

arships and more. We ended the day with games and more ice cream. Overall it was a great success and

we are looking forward to a great year with these new additions to our chapter.

Once again, our Greenhand Camp was a great success with a turnout of 35 eager new students in atten-dance. Campers enjoyed hamburg-ers and Bluebell Ice Cream, cooked and provided by our FFA officers. Next they listened to opening cere-monies and our FFA Alumni Presi-dent, Mr. John Spiess, speak on behalf of the FFA Alumni, welcom-ing the greenhands and inviting

This year, the Bellville FFA will be proudly represented at the Na-tional Career Development Events in two contests, Dairy Cat-tle Evaluation and Parliamentary Procedure. The CDE’s will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana during the National FFA Conven-tion, which will occur from Octo-ber 20-23. The Dairy Cattle team, consisted of Jared Schu-bert, Brittney Klein, Nicholas Herr, and Cory Schovajsa, will

take a test covering dairy industry topics, rank dairy cattle on pro-ductive traits, and justify their rankings with oral reasons. The Parliamentary Procedure team, consisted of Sabrina Sandoval, Dylan Waak, Sam Luedeker, Dan-ielle Kelly, Katie Wingo, Jenna

Davis, and Amanda Spacek, will take a test over Parlia-mentary subjects, perform a sample meeting, and respond to oral questions regarding their performance. Both teams are practicing daily and are hopeful for success.

Bellville has a long history of

competing in and winning at na-tionals. In 1964, a Livestock Evaluation team from Bellville placed 1st in the nation. Brenda Schumann, competing in Pre-pared Public Speaking, accom-plished the same feat in 1996. In recent years our chapter has qualified for national competition in Creed Speaking, Nursery/Landscape, Livestock Evaluation, and Rang Evaluation, traveling to contests in Denver, Oklahoma City, and Indianapolis. These two teams preparing for nationals are the latest examples in the Bell-ville FFA’s tradition of excellence.

people who represented them. Be-sides learning about the city, how-ever, Nate also discovered what the true objective of WLC is. This years theme was ‘’What’s Your Purpose’’. During the sessions and group dis-cussions he learned about what the FFA moto “Living to Serve” means and ways he and others can help the world and himself through com-munity service and giving back. The

This summer Nate Compton trav-eled to Washington D.C. to partici-pate in the Washington Leadership Conference. He had the opportunity to travel around the city including taking a tour of the D.C. Mall which holds many of the major memorials and monuments, such as the Lin-coln Memorial. While taking the tour he learned about the meaning behind each testimonial and the

participants in the conference got to start giving back right away. They broke up into groups and performed different service activities. Nate traveled outside the city to pick Col-lard Greens and Kale that was do-nated to a local food bank. In Nate’s own words, “This experience will stay with me forever. It was a blast.”
