Y Staff and Camp Counselors demonstrate leadership qualities, enthusiasm, diversity and strong character while engaging and encouraging youth. All staff hold certifications in CPR & First Aid, Bloodbourne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention & Safety. Our Camp Counselors range in age from 16 to 25 years, most of whom have or are pursuing degrees in Education or Early Childhood Development. Each camp group will receive the attention of 2 Senior Counselors (18+) and 1 Junior Counselor (16+).

FLExIBLE SCHEDULING

ABILITY PROGRAMMINGOur program invites and supports children who have various disABILITIES including physical, developmental, behavioral and learning. Campers with disABILITIES will be placed in an age-appropriate Day Camp with their peers. Please connect with Kevin Crail, Senior Camp Director, 215.348.8131, x1147 to discuss our requirements (i.e. support staff, physical/emotional threats) and your needs.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEAvailable to those who may not be able to afford our camp. Please be sure to register for desired camps ($10 deposit for each camp) and submit your fully-completed application (including your 2012 tax return) by the following due dates to allow time for processing: May 1 for June camps; June 1 for July camps; July 1 for August camps. PWeek 1 | June 24 - June 28CAMP TAKODA WEEKExperience the rich culture of our Native American history. Learn the history of Camp Takoda and experience the power of our Opening Pow Wow. Explore historical Crystal Cave and play mini golf! Family Pow Wow on Thursday night.

Week 2 | July 1 - July 5PARTY IN THE USACelebrate freedom! Travel the USA and experience the sights and sounds. Learn about 1776 and sign your own Declaration of Independence. Sing-alongs, an All American Picnic and a visit from local Fire Fighters. Visit Independence Hall and the Constitution Center.

Week 3 | July 8 - July 12 HOLLYWOOD WEEKEverybody is a star. Work on talents all week - singing, dancing, skate boarding - you name it! Develop the star within and perform at the annual Camp Takoda Talent Show. Family Talent Show Thursday night!

Week 4 | July 15 - 19HOLIDAY WEEKCelebrate Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and more. Bring your costume for the Haunted Trail and wear red for the Christmas Ball! Explore the Haunted Camp Site with family Thursday night.

WHERE FRIENDS AND MEMORIES ARE MADEMany years ago the Native Americans lived on the land surrounding this area. Each tribe - Lenape, Pueblo, Shawnee, Cherokee and Neshaminy - had their own separate pieces of land and only interacted with their own people. Little did they know that all of this would change forever....

Week 5 | July 22 - 26 TRIP WEEKCamp Takoda goes on the road! What do Elmo, crayons, sharks and zebras all have in common? You’ll see them all during Trip Week! Visit Adventure Aquarium, the Philadelphia Zoo, the Crayola Factory, Philly Rock Gym and Sesame Place.

Week 6 | July 29 - August 2 TIME TRAVEL WEEKScientists from the future have built a time machine and will transport you into a different era each day like The Stone Age, The 80s, and The Year 2009. Build a time machine and visit the future; then jump back in time to get ready for Medieval Week!

Week 7 | August 5 - 9 MEDIEVAL AND PIRATE WEEKExperience life during the Renaissance as a Knight, Squire, Page, Princess, or Pirate! Make your own armor, have a jousting competition with noodles, participate in a cannon ball contest and play “walk the plank” trivia! The week ends with the Camp Takoda Renaissance Fair and Family Night.

Week 8 | August 12 - 16 SUPER HERO WEEKUse your powers for good and become better citizens. Collect clues to uncover the mystery of “Who freed Sticky Fingers?” Complete Super Hero boot camp and

create your own comic book. Learn about the 4 Core Values of all Super Heroes: Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility. Write letters to those serving in the Military and learn about real heroes! Join in a Super Hero Fun Run for the entire family.

Week 9 | August 19 - 23COWBOYS V. ALIENSThe Aliens from Zygonia have invaded earth during the time of the Wild West. The fun-loving aliens have been persuaded to join with the bandits to take over the small town of Takoda. Spend the week uncovering secrets, looking for clues and learning if the Zygonians have been to Earth before. Play camp favorite Gold Rush, but with a twist as you face challenges from both the Aliens and Bandits. Visit the Franklin Institute on Friday.

Week 10 | August 26 - 30CELEBRATE UNDER THE BIG TOPPlay games, sing songs and make crafts to a circus theme. Dress as clowns and other circus attractions. Pie your counselors, enjoy extra swim time and attend our closing Pow Wow with a montage of camp songs.

AFTERNOON SPORTSSPORTS | Weeks 1 - 10 | Noon to 4 PM5 to 12 yrs | Variety of sports. Swim every day. TRIPS | Week 1 - Trenton Thunder; Week 6 - Eagles Training Camp; Week 7 - Phillies Stadium Tour. Morning campers can add trips for $20 each.

BASEBALL | Weeks 1 & 78 to 12 yrs | Fielding, throwing, batting and pitching. Add a trip to the Trenton Thunder during Week 1 or the Phillies Tour during Week 7. Must be registered for Week 1 or 7 to go on the trip. Baseball glove required.

BASKETBALL | Weeks 1, 3, 5, 7 & 95 to 12 yrs | Dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. All equipment provided. Sixers Summer Hoops Tour visits during Week 3. All day option available Week 3!

CHEERLEADING | Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 & 95 to 10 yrs | Two age appropriate groups. Learn techniques and routines. Perform for parents on Fridays.

CROSS COUNTRY | Week 10 8 to 12 yrs | Training schedules, running mechanics, weight training, stretching, nutrition, race strategy, peaking, cross training and workout design.

FIELD HOCKEY | Week 18 to 12 yrs | Stick work, dodging, passing, scrimmaging and endurance training. Field Hockey stick required.

FLAG FOOTBALL | Weeks 2 & 6 5 to 12 yrs | Running, passing, receiving and defense. Equipment provided. Cleats recommended. Add a trip to Eagles Training Camp during Week 6. Must be registered for Week 6 to go on the trip.

JUMP ROPE | Weeks 4 & 78 to 12 yrs | Single rope skills, double-dutch jumping, partner work, group routines and fun games.

LACROSSE | Weeks 1 & 68 to 12 yrs | Cradling, passing, shooting and footwork. Lacrosse stick required.

RUGBY | Week 38 to 12 yrs | Fast moving, continuous, dynamic, and all-inclusive sport. Learn from Rugby’s rich history and tradition, with teamwork, sportsmanship and respect being key pillars of the game.

SOCCER | Weeks 4 & 85 to 12 yrs | Dribbling, passing, shooting and goal tending. Equipment provided. Shin guards and cleats recommended. All day option available Week 4!

SPEED & AGILITY | Week 5 | 9:15 to 11:15 AM8 to 12 yrs | For young athletes. Build confidence and skills for your individual sport.

SKATEBOARDING | Weeks 1 - 106 to 12 yrs | Terminology, tricks and riding ramps in our Skatepark. Learn how to adjust boards. Parents are welcome Fridays for our weekly competition. Paint a board (provided) Weeks 3, 5 and 8! Skateboard, helmet, elbow and knee pads required.

NEW! SKATING INLINE | Weeks 1, 2, 4, 6 & 76 to 12 yrs | Terminology, tricks and riding ramps on inline skates! All abilities welcome. Inline skates, helmet, elbow and knee pads required.

STREET HOCKEY | Week 108 to 12 yrs | Stick handling, shooting and passing. Teamwork and good sportsmanship emphasized through game play. Hockey stick required.

SUPERSPORTS INDOOR | Weeks 6, 8 & 105 to 12 yrs | Basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, dodgeball and other cooperative games. All play is noncompetitive. Equipment provided.

SUPERSPORTS OUTDOOR | Weeks 3 & 45 to 12 yrs | Each day is devoted to a different sport. All play is noncompetitive. Equipment provided.

TENNIS | Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 88 to 12 yrs | Ground strokes, volleys, serves and footwork. Racquet required.

NEW! TENNIS BEGINNER | Weeks 3 & 55 to 7 yrs | Hand-eye coordination, balance and agility in a fun environment. Racquet required.

TRACK & FIELD | Weeks 1 & 28 to 12 yrs | Choose one week or sign up for both. Week 1: Explore new events and set challenging goals. Week 2: Focus on a specific event like sprinting, distance, long jump, triple jump, hurdles or shot put.

Act, sing, dance, make props and costumes, design sets, or stage-manage. Mandatory meet-and-greets will take place beforehand to meet directors, express interests and show off your stuff! Casting decisions will be based off the meet-and-greets. Campers bussed daily back and forth from the Y.

BLAzE BRIGADE FIREFIGHTER | Week 1Warden Road Firehouse8 to 12 yrs | Train to look for hazards in the home. Learn the importance of smoke detectors, what to do when calling 9-1-1 and fire and crime prevention tips from local police, Central Bucks Ambulance Squad, and the Bucks County Mobile 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center. “Fire Cadet” graduation on Thursday night. Field trip to Philadelphia Fireman’s Hall Museum on Friday.

FISHING | Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6 | 9 AM to 1 PM7 to 12 yrs | Enjoy fishing at different spots in Bucks County during the week. Bussing provided. Fishing pole is required.

GIRLS ON THE MOVE | Weeks 2, 4 & 88 to 12 yrs | Learn about choices for a healthier future and developing self-respect. Weekly themes to develop physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

NEW! FIBER CRAFTS | Week 38 to 12 yrs | Clean, dye, felt and spin wool fibers into a wearable fashion. Make bracelets using homemade lucets and learn about felted scarves.

NEW! JOURNALISM | Weeks 2, 3 & 68 to 12 yrs | Learn how newspapers and online blogs come together. Identify stories for a camper-written newsletter, practice interviewing skills, and take photographs.

NEW! MUSIC | Weeks 2, 4 & 78 to 12 yrs | Learn about current pop artists and different music trends over various decades. Lessons in music theory and composition; group instruction on keyboard, recorder (provided) and singing.

READING | WEEKS 1, 3, 6 & 8 6 to 7 yrs | Guided reading, self-selected reading, writing and phonics. Experience different specials such as art, PE and music that tie back to literacy. Books chosen from the Central Bucks summer reading list and are included in registration fee.

SCIENCE | Weeks 1 & 68 to 12 yrs | Exciting hands-on scientific explorations in electricity, gravity and weather. So much fun you’ll forget you’re learning!

CONTEMPORARY DANCE | Week 98 to 12 yrs |Work on style, flexibility, technique and stage presence. Contemporary and modern dance techniques emphasized. Opportunity to work on your own choreography. Black leotard, yoga style pants or shorts required. Camp concludes with a performance for parents and family.

HIP-HOP | Weeks 4 & 88 to 12 yrs | High energy and noncompetitive. Learn basic steps to music from Radio Disney, Kid’s Bop and more! Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Camp concludes with a performance for parents and family.

Develop leadership and professionalism with business training and behavior management skills. Hands-on experience in the Y’s Child Watch area. Certification through www.safesitter.org.

COUNSELOR/COACH IN TRAINING | Weeks 1, 3 & 6 Training* | 9 AM to 4 PM13 to 15 yrs | Assist our highly qualified staff in their group’s daily activities and work with children of different ages and abilities. Opportunity for community service projects. Must submit application at time of registration. Mandatory interview after registration. Trip to Dorney Park Weeks 3 & 8 (additional fee). *Additional weeks required beyond training. See details below.

Junior CIT Program (1st year CIT) Must complete a full week of training prior to camp placement and attend an additional four weeks throughout the summer for a total of 5 weeks.

Senior CIT Program (2nd and 3rd year CIT)Must have completed one or more years as a CIT. Senior CITs must complete 2 days of training and team building. 3rd year CITs require 1 day of training. All 2nd and 3rd year CITs must complete a minimum of 6 weeks. All 3rd year CITs must apply and be given approval by CIT Coordinator before registering.

TEEN LEADERS | Weeks 1 - 10 | 9 AM to 4 PM13 to 15 yrs | Make new friends, build individual leadership skills, achieve your goals, and make a real impact in our community. Team building through weekly goals, community service projects and field trips. Gather inspiration from different speakers in our community. Weekly Themes: 1-Identity, 2-Relationship Building, 3-Careers, 4-College 101, 5-Social Responsibility, 6-Challenge Yourself, 7-Communication, 8-Express Yourself, 9-Social Responsibility, 10-Impact.
