How do you think about radiators?

„You can‘t do without them,

but radiators rarely are a beautiful sight to look at.

Therefore attractive coverings become more and more

popular. Try the disguise tactics – we present five ideas

for you to try.“

Translated from: „Living at home“, Internet edition 21.04.03

A bimetal strip bends at a temperature of more than 105°C and thereby cuts off the power circuit mechanically. When the temperature drops the bimetal bends back in its old position and closes the power circuit again.

A temperature sensor in the control cap on the back of the radiator measures the temperature on the glass surface and shuts the radiator at a temperature of 65°C automatically off.

The radiator is made of laminated safety glass (similar to a car windscreen) and therefore remains intact even when the glass was broken. The tempered glass panes withstand even hardest hits.

Technology

Technical Approach...

Heating with glass • “heating wire” is an electro conductive coating

• specific power Pspec > 500W/m²

• resulting glass temperature 40 –85°C

• heated is predominantly with infrared radiation less

with convection (air circulation)

Page 18: Thermovit

previous solutions:

electricity runs over the full width of the pane

disadvantage:

electric resistance of the heating surface is fixed → the input voltage has to be converted to fit to the wanted power output and the given resistance.

As a consequence every system needs a calibrated transformer and disturbing electrical contacts on two opposite edges of the radiator.

Technical Approach...SGG THERMOVIT ® ELEGANCE:

the heated coating is configured into electro conductive tracks

advantage:

The electric resistance of the heating surface is adjusted to power and voltage → the input voltage can be used directly without any transformers.

Only a relatively small electrical contact is needed.

1. layer – glass connection- power insertion onto the coating- temperature sensor (electr. protection 85°C) - Bimetal-protection 105°C

2. layer - Microprocessor with power controller- 15 power levels

3. layer – radio receiver
