The moral of this tale
There are lies, damn lies and statistics
There are two sides to every story
Braking down the digital divide has never been so important. Otherwise the IT Rich will get richer and the IT poor will be forgotten!

EXERCISE THREE
You are in charge of an event to raise awareness about volunteering as well as raising some much needed funds by combining this ‘drive’ with a summer fete
You are hoping to attract volunteers from two specific age groups 18-25 and 55-65 who are currently in ‘short supply’ within your organisation
EXERCISE THREE
Identify Social Media applications that could be of benefit to promoting the event
What about people that are interested but cannot make the event, using Social Media how could you include these people?
Spend a few minutes now thinking about ideas and we will revisit these after the break
EXERCISE THREE ROUND-UP
TWO GROUPS
1.Look at ideas for promoting the event2.Look at what you could do to include those
that couldn’t make the event
10 Mins to formalise your thoughts

very quickly Can take on a creative life of its own VERY HIGH PROFILE – the latest ‘buzz’ Can even tick the Green Agenda box!
Campaigning Cons
Can be intimidating if not used to using the internet/technology
Can be time consuming. Have a clear plan
Can be fickle. What is fashionable this week..
Impossible to control. People/groups may take your message and spin it to their own ends

COMMUNICATION
COMMUNICATION
Ultimately a Social Media Solution can be found for many things
It can be very useful for giving access to meetings/conferences/launches etc to those who could not attend.◦ Video Key Note Speeches and publish on YouTube◦ Podcast Speeches etc◦ Publish Photos of the event
Can help you work smarter not harder!
On average travelling 20 miles per day or 100 miles per week in a car with a 1.4L to 1.8L petrol engine produces
1.5 Tonnes Of CO2 per annum
Reduce mileage by 5-10% and the amount falls to
1.4 Tonnes Of CO2 per annum
A saving of
0.1 Tonnes Of CO2 per annum
There are an estimated
32,000,000Cars in Great Britain
IF ONLY 10% OF THESE REDUCED THEIR MILEAGE
This would be a reduction of
320,000 Tonnes Of CO2 per annum

Social Media
Certainly not the only method and won’t always be appropriate but it can be immensely useful
Social Media can provide you with access to previously inaccessible groups/networks
Widens the range of communications and can increase your “audience”.
Social Media solutions provide additional ways of delivering/promoting your message.
Old Media (phone, letter, e-mail, newsletters, press releases etc) still have their place
Think of Social Media as additional tools in your communications kit bag.
Thank You For Attending
