Who is facilitating this workshop?

Aminah Haghighi Communications and Outreach Director

Aminah was first impacted by the state of developing countries in 2006 when she went on an exposure trip to the Dominican Republic through St. Marguerite d’Youville Secondary School.

She was fortunate enough to attend another trip to the Dominican Republic and then to Haiti to continue to

support the less fortunate. She will continue to travel to developing countries to learn how to better help those in need.

“No one can deny the impact social media has on our everyday lives – retail stores, TV networks, ads are constantly telling us what to say. Imagine what would happen if we gave students the power to use their networks for social good. The change they could create is unfathomable.”

A current student of York University, Aminah hopes to continue her studies at the graduate level in either social work or law – “I know my purpose in life is bigger than even I can comprehend right now. That purpose is to serve others. And it starts with my role with ACCESS.”

Damon Pfaff Youth Making a Difference Director

Damon Pfaff is a multi-talented artist and designer from Mississauga. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Engineering. In addition to coordinating the Youth Making a Difference Conference, Damon is a b-boy dancer and member of hip-hop collective Ground Illusionz, who were awarded for Social Justice Through Arts & Culture.

“Social media blurs the line between private and public space – it’s a fairly new phenomenon. It’s so important for us to create dialogues between students about what social media is and how best to use it. “

He also organizes and leads RHYTHM, an educational dance program which aims to inspire youth and help them confront challenges and social issues using the arts as a vehicle for change. He hopes to continue to grow as an artist while helping his community to grow as well.
