Constituents of Chef Clothing

The complete chef uniform comprises of a chef coat, chef shirt, chef pants, chef apron, chef hat, chef scarf and chef shoes. Each constituent is designed to serve two major functions:

Safety against the hot and humid kitchen environment and the accidental hot spills

Caring for Chef ClothingThe chef uniformly is usually designed in a way that it is easy to care for! Even then, to maintain the high quality of the clothing to best serve its function, a few measures can be taken on a day to basis:

Appropriate storage – The clothing must be stored in a clean, dark and non humid place, ideally a closet. But make sure there are no unwanted micro organisms infesting it.

Follow garment instructions to launder – You must necessarily follow the manufacturer’s instruction to launder the garment, for instance you must keep in mind the specified water temperature and ironing temperature.

Use only high quality detergents – Low quality detergent are difficult to wash away and usually end up wearing out the clothing sooner than usual. Therefore you must invest in a good quality detergent; it is also advisable to soak the uniform in detergent water for a while such that it gets easy to wash away the stains.

Appropriate separation of garments – Different colored garments must be separated appropriately. The whites must especially be washed separately. Different stuff like linens and cottons should preferably be washed separately for their optimum maintenance and laundering conditions are quite different.
