Ein Kerem (or Ein Karem, Hebrew: spring of vineyard) is located at the foot of mount Orah of the Judea Mountains. It is an ancient village and now a neighbourhood in southwest Jerusalem .

According to Christian tradition, John the Baptist was born in Ein Karem, leading to the establishment of many churches and monasteries. Thanks to a persistent struggle of its residents, the village preserves the magic of its unique characteristic :

narrow alleys, landscapes from immemorial times , the beautifully built Arabian stone-houses, its churches, cafes, and restaurants and of course its art galleries.

The four-foot tall menorah, created by Israeli sculptor Aharon Bezalel, is a replica of the Yom Hashoah Menorah presented to Pope John Paul II on April 13, 1999 that now stands permanently at the

Vatican’s North American College."The statue itself consists of six images of women, children and men holding torches in which a candle can be placed and lit on Holocaust Day. The people are standing on a broken star of David on which it

is written : 1933 - 1945 and below - the verse "Yitgadal veYitkadash Shme Raba", from the mourners’ prayer,

Kaddish . “ ( Aharon Bezalel )

"הפסל עצמו בגובה של מטר וחצי, מורכב משש דמויות של נשים ,ילדים וגברים שמחזיקים לפידים, בלפידים יש מקום לנר שאפשר להדליק ביום השואה. הם עומדים על מגן דוד שבור

ומתחתיו 1945 - 1933ועליו כתוב, כתוב "כן יתגדל ויתקדש שמי רבה" בעברית, זה פסוק
