Friends and Colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to oureleventh meeting of CIPP - The International

Congress of Pediatric Pulmonology. After almost two decades of activitywe venture to Asia for the first time.

The historic and cultural richness and diversity of this continent makesthe choice of the optimal city challenging. We chose Thailand because ofits natural beauty, invaluable art treasures, its mix of old and modern, and its tradition of excellence in Pediatric Pulmonology.

Our meeting - CIPP - remains the only global meeting that is fully dedicatedto pediatric pulmonology. Over the last two years we changed ourmeeting to an annual paradigm, and saved no effort in our congresses inVienna and Versailles to not only bring together leading authorities onvarious topics, but also make the meeting more inclusive by inviting andsupporting presenters and speakers from poor-resourced countries. Theseresearchers and clinicians are challenged by inadequate funds but arerich in skill and experience, and shared with us the many amazing thingsthat they do. Obviously, the move of the meeting to Bangkok, will giveus an opportunity to include more of our colleagues from Asia andOceania as speakers and presenters, and with that alter the flavor of themeetings to make them even more inclusive.

We are particularly proud of the platform we offer through our YoungInvestigator Awards. For years and consistently these have been excitingpresentations of young researchers on the cutting edge of clinical andbasic science, whose work has been filling plenary sessions and the bestof them are awarded generous prizes.

Despite its growth and global reach, CIPP remains small enough to offerintimacy. It has transformed from its role as a place of learning andscientific exchange, to one that also offers a venue to revive oldfriendships and establish new ones. As we branch out to a new continent, such encounters will broaden horizons, build cross-cultural bridges, andcontribute to unite us all as a better, more educated and open, wiserglobal community.

I with my colleagues in the various committees of the organizationwelcome you to Bangkok and wish you an enjoyable and productivemeeting.

Andrew Colin, MDPresident, CIPP XI

This congress is the only international meeting which focused on pediatricpulmonology in the world and this is the first time that the congressmoves to the Asia continent. The fantastic scientific program will coverthe update knowledge on pediatric respiratory diseases includingasthma, infection, sleep disordered breathing, chronic lungs, aspirationand environment related disorders as well as pediatric bronchoscopy, respiratory care and lung function test. It will be an exceptional opportunityto attend our young generation of pediatric pulmonologists to presenttheir research works for the future of our specialty and 4 of them will winthe prestigious CIPP young investigator awards. In addition, there will bespecial awards for the top 3 posters. The congress will also provide a platformfor delegates to participate in radiology quiz, bronchoscopy quiz andinteresting case discussion.

Thailand, in the heart of Southeast Asia, has never been colonized andthus can keep her unique culture and heritage intact. Bangkok has manyattractions to offer. The city is dotted with 400 glittering Buddhist templesof great beauty, magnificent palaces, classical dance performances, numerous shopping centers. Bangkok features a modern capital city, andfriendly people who epitomize Thailand’s “land of smiles” reputation. The Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World, the congress venue, issituated in the heart of Bangkok where delegates can walk around safelyeven late at night. It is the gateway to Bangkok’s most-happeningshopping, dining and entertainment scene. More importantly, it is closedto the BTS modern skytrain station so everyone could explore mostattractive parts of our beautiful city without any delay in traffic jams.

We together with our Thai colleagues of TPRC would like to thankProfessor Andrew Colin, the President of CIPP XI and international CIPPorganizing committee for selecting Bangkok as the venue and all sponsorsfor supporting generously to the congress. We assure that all delegateswill have memorable experiences and wonderful hospitality.
