There Are Five Kingdoms

Plants

Animals

Fungi

Bacteria

Protists

Plants

Plants are split into two groups vascular and nonvascular plants.

Nonvascular plants don’t have any internal plumbing so they have to be small like moss

Vascular plants have vascular tissue like phloem that carries food, and xylem that carries water. Most plants are vascular plants like trees, grasses, and flowers

Animals

Animals are split up into two groups vertebrates and invertebrates

Within the vertebrates there are five groups:

Mammals

Reptiles

Fish

Birds

Amphibians

Fungi

Unlike plants, which makes their own food, fungi are like miniature versions of our stomach, turned inside-out. Fungi “eat” by releasing enzymes outside of their bodies that break down nutrients into smaller pieces that they can then absorb.

Bacteria

Bacteria are single-celled microscopic organisms found everywhere in the environment and on the human body. They are visible with a light microscope. They are usually harmless, but some cause diseases in plants, animals, and humans.

Protists

Protists are like tiny single-celled plants and animals.

Amoebas swim around and eat things just like animals do

Algae are green and do photosynthesis like plants.

Protists are the things in pond water people look at under a microscope
