What Happened When We First Became Christians?

We thought…

• We simply discover God’s commands in the Bible and then start doing it.

• Then when we fail we are told to turn over our sin to Christ and as He lives in us we will experience victory over sin.

• But why do I still struggle with sin? What is wrong?

• World is populated by sin

• Satan continues to work on our unbelief

• What did Christ’s enemies say?– “But his subjects hated him and sent a

delegation after him to say, 'We don't want this man to be our king.‘” (Luke 19:14)

– Nature of sin: We refuse to yield to the Lordship of Christ in our lives.

What is the nature of our sin?

• We have been set free from the rule of sin– Romans 6:6-7 : Dying to sin is not something

we do but something Christ has done!– It means we can now resist sin.

• We can resist sin because of Jesus.– James 4:7– 1 Peter 5:9– Ephesians 6:13

• We have experienced a change of kingdom. – We are no longer

in sin’s dominion.– Ex. Change of

Kingdom or Governments

– Sinful nature resorts to guerilla warfare.
