**** All notes sent home and newsletters are available on our website as well as our Skoolbag App **** Dear Parents and Caregivers, It has been great to see the student’s at Kentlyn be offered so many amazing opportunities over the last fortnight everything from cheerleading, athletics carnivals and scarecrow making. The Kentlyn students are extremely lucky to have so many teachers that go above and beyond to ensure they are provided with a variety of experiences. I have been really lucky to get in to a number of classrooms over the last two weeks and have really enjoyed seeing your students engaged in some fantastic learning experiences.

Our Kentlyn students love the morning routine of fruit break and I want to thank all our parents for being so supportive of such a great initiative. Can we please ask when you are packing fruit can you make sure the fruit is ready to eat. If your child needs it cut can you please ensure it is cut up, pack a spoon or an easy to open container.

Just a reminder our photo day will be here before we know it.

Photo Day: 12th September 2016

We encourage all parents to put the above date in your diary. All information about ordering photos is listed on your child’s photo envelope. Please see the front office if you do not have a photo envelope. We are encouraging parents where possible to pay online through the MSP website (www.msp.com.au).

We are now finalising our organisation for Kindergarten Orientation Day. If you, a family member or neighbour have students beginning school next year, and have not yet handed in an enrolment form, they need to be handed in at the school office as soon as possible. Finalising these forms will allow us to better plan for next year as well as our Kindergarten orientation program.

Parent teacher interviews will take place in Week 9 of this term. Kentlyn are trying a new system called school interviews online to book all of our interviews this term. Through this system you can book school interviews for the time that suits you. Notes have gone home and it is great to see so many families have already booked their interviews. Can I please encourage you to take the time to see your child’s teacher. This is a great opportunity for you to be informed about your child’s strengths, weaknesses along with some

ideas for you to use at home to support your child’s learning. Please feel free to contact our friendly office staff if you need assistance with booking interviews.

Track Events The track events were held on Thursday the 11th of August. It was a very successful day with all students from K-6 participating and enjoying themselves. The house captains did an excellent job motivating their house colour and cheering on their team mates. We enjoyed the novelty relay involving the teachers, the parents, one team from Macarthur and one team from Campbell. The parents team included Mr Zapirain, Mrs Churton, Mr Griffiths and Mr Gallant. The Parents won this race to the sadness of Mr Saunders! We enjoyed the picnic lunch and the fantastic sausage sizzle served by the P&C. Field Events The following week Kentlyn had their field events carnival on Wednesday the 17th of August. This included high jump, long jump, shotput and discus. It was great to see the encouragement and good sportsmanship shown throughout the day. A huge thank you to all the parent helpers who came up on the track and field events days. We are so lucky to be involved in a school that has such devoted and helpful parents and family members. The students who have successfully been selected for the zone team will be announced next week. Students who came 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their running events as well as the primary students who came 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their field events will be receiving their ribbon at this week’s assembly.

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student and parent feedback surveys. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 22 August and 21 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated. Can I please ask parents to use the link below to complete the parent survey to help us gather valuable feedback and to improve practices and processes at Kentlyn Public School. We really value your feedback. I will also post the link on Skoolbag and the schools Facebook page.

On Saturday 13th August 2016, seventeen girls from Kentlyn performed their cheerleading routine at half time in the West Tigers Dance Spectacular. Leading up to this big day, the girls were involved in an all schools dance rehearsal at Victoria Park in Minto. With only having two weeks of preparation prior to the performance day, the girls displayed tremendous devotion, enthusiasm and

excitement. I would like to thank parents/ carers for their support and words of encouragement. A big thank you to the dance girls for trying their best and representing Kentlyn Public School. It was lovely to watch you all dance with big smiles on your faces! Miss Swales

Over the past two weeks the school has begun preparing to move to the new LMBR office system that I outlined in the last newsletter. This has meant significant training time for the ladies in the office, and for me. These training courses will be ongoing until the end of the term. Thank you for your understanding with the office as we will have changes in staff at the front desk. This has also played a major factor with money collection with excursions as all excursion payments must be finalised by the end of the term for rollover in early term 4.

The School Swimming and Water Safety Program for 2016 will be held from Monday 24th October through till Friday 4th November 2016. This program will be available for students in years 2 – 6. An expression of interest note was sent home this week. This program is always extremely popular and places are filled on a first come basis with priority starting with Year 2 students. We would like to thank the P&C who covered half the cost of the bus hire for this program which significantly reduces the cost for all families.

NAPLAN results for Year 3 and Year 5 have arrived and have been posted home to all families. Early analysis of the results by myself shows good gains for most of our students. After taking the time to review your child’s results, should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or myself.

As part of Book Week celebrations, Kentlyn Public School will be celebrating with a fun filled morning with open classrooms starting at 9.30am, a parade at 10.30am of all the wonderful costumes and a picnic lunch at 11.10am. Parents/carers and guests are invited to share the morning celebrating Book Week at Kentlyn PS. Our fantastic SRC will be selling raffle tickets and some yummy biscuits to raise some money to make improvements to the playground. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday!

Our book fair will be held on Tuesday 30th, Wednesday 31st August and Thursday 1st September 2016. The book fair will be held in the library for students, teachers and the community across these three days. Opening times each day are from 8am-9am and 3pm-4pm. As we are in the process of renovating and updating our library we are asking families if they would like to purchase a book and donate back to the Kentlyn library. All donations will be recognised with a book plaque

so students can see and enjoy the books they have donated.

We are looking forward to welcoming as many parents, carers and special guests that are able to join us for another delightful event in our great school.

A big thank you to the families of 5/6S for my amazing gift. No words can explain how lucky I am to educate your wonderful children everyday and the gift purchased for me was unnecessary but definitely appreciated. Thanking you all Mr Steven Saunders

Mrs Cosgrove has asked that I inform all parents there will be no banking next Friday 2nd September 2016. Mrs Cosgrove does an amazing job making sure our banking runs smoothly at Kentlyn PS and we are lucky to have such dedicated parents who gives up their time on a weekly basis. Thank you for your understanding and banking will return to normal the following week.
