DEVELOPING COUNTRIES PARTNERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2015 The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has announced the "Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship Program" for the academic year 2014. The three years Master program is aimed at promoting deeper cultural understanding and to strengthen the relationship and mutual cooperation for the development of human resource quality among the developing countries. The scholarships are offered in various fields of studies including Humanities, Applied Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Education and Multi Disciplinary Studies at the leading Universities of Indonesia for three years, consisted of one year for the Indonesian Language and Preparatory Programs and two years for the Master Program. It is pertinent to mention here that duly completed applications should reach the Embassy by April 05, 2015. Having received recommendation letter from the Embassy the candidates will apply online as mentioned in the attached details by April 15, 2015. SUBMISSION OF FINAL THESIS As provided under the general instructions approved by the GSRB, the date for submission of final thesis for Winter Semester, 2014-15 is extended upto 13-03-2015 for those students who have got scrutinized their semifinal thesis from the office of DGS. PRESTIGIOUS ELA BHATT PROFESSORSHIP AT ICDD, UNIVERSITY OF KASSEL The ICDD at the University of Kassel is an international interdisciplinary network of eight universities on four countinents. It is currently in its second phase, which is focused on addressing the issue of fulla and productive employment and decent work for all. The ICDD aims to contribute to the post-MDG 2015 goals, particularly goal 8, which is to create jobs, sustainable livelihoods and equitable growth, promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. In line with the joint FAO/ILO initiative, there is a special focus on the world’s 805 million people living in rural areas faced with food insecurity. One of ICDD’s main objectives in this context is to generate and transfer knowledge on creating and improving work and income opportuniteis in rural and urban regions of developing countries in light of globalization, climate change and urbanization. One of Its main facilities for the interdiscipilinary generation of knowledge is the graduate school of scoi-ecological research for development. 6. PhD thesis of Mr. Asif Yaqoob, Regd. No. 2007-ag-66 entitled “Training Needs Assessment of Wheat Growers for Quality Seed Production: A Case Study of District Narowal” will be placed in the office of the Director, Institute of Agri. Extension & Rural Development from 06-03-2015 to 12-03-2015 for peer review.

7. PhD thesis of Mr. Sana Ullah Yasin, Regd. No. 2005-ag-1315 will be placed in the office of the Director, Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences, UAF for one week prior to its submission for foreign evaluation from 06-03-2015 to 13-03-2015. The title of his thesis is “Potential impact of Bt and non-Bt cotton on rhizosphere microbial community, enzymatic activity and cottonseed oil quality”. The faculty and the students are invited to pursue the thesis for any suggestion/corrections. The suggestion received if in order will be incorporated through the supervisory committee. All the staff members and students are welcomed to read/consult the thesis.

PhD THESIS/SYNOPSIS DEFENSE 1. Mr. Rezwan Tariq, Regd. No. 2007-ag-2604, PhD student of the Department

of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended his PhD synopsis titled “Association mapping for micro nutrients composition in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum)” on 25-02-2015.

2. Mr. Muhammad Tahir Mohy-ud-Din, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1098, a PhD student, Dept. of CMS has successfully defended his research synopsis entitled “Mastitis in cows and buffaloes: (I) A field survey in tehsil Faisalabad, and (II) Therapeutic evaluation and cost-benefit analysis of autogenous vaccine alone and in combination with rational therapy” on 21-02-2015.

3. Miss Humaima Saeed, Regd. No. 2007-ag-165, PhD Scholar Department of Physics, has successfully defended her synopsis titled “A study on laser ablation propulsion parameters of solid samples” as required under the rules on 30-01-2015.

4. Miss Tehmina Sharif, Regd. No. 2008-ag-679, PhD Chemistry student of the Department of Chemistry has successfully defended her synopsis entitled “Potential of Aroma Constituents of Grasses to Prevent Toxins Production in Cereal Grains” as required under the rules on 16-02-2015.

5. Miss Alia Nasir, Regd. No. 2009-ag-1257, PhD Chemistry student of the Department of Chemistry has successfully defended her synopsis titled “Development of Eco-Friendly Dyeing Process Using Natural Dyes” as required under the rules on 16-02-2015. This topic has been modified with minor alterations in response to suggestions given during synopsis defense as “Enhancing the Performance of Natural Dyes by Fabric Surface Modification and Eco-friendly Cross-linkers”.

6. Mr. Muhammad Abdul Salam Khan, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1494, PhD student of the Institute of Horticultural Sciences has successfully defended his synopsis in a seminar held on 21-02-2015. The final title of his synopsis is “Demographic analysis of cut flower industry of Pakistan”.

7. Miss Iram Shahzadi, Regd. No. 2011-ag-666, PhD Chemistry student of the Department of Chemistry has successfully defended her synopsis titled “The Evolution of Chemical Imaging and Chemometric Techniques to Explore Fundamental Nanoparticles Interactions with Biological Systems” as required under the rules on 16-02-2015. This topic has been modified with minor alterations in response to suggestions given during synopsis defense as “Characterization and Biological Activities of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized from Indigenous Medicinal Plants”.

8. Mr. Muhammad Riaz, Regd. No. 2009-ag-117, PhD Biochemistry student of the Dept. of Biochemistry has successfully defended his synopsis entitled “Exploration of medicinal plants for reproductive system and hormone status” as required under the rules on 07-06-2014. This topic has been modified with minor alterations in response to suggestions given during synopsis defense as “Exploration of medicinal plants potential for reproductive system and hormone status”.

9. Miss Nayab Mansoor, Regd. No. 2011-ag-1020, PhD Scholar Department of Physics, has successfully defended her synopsis titled “Effect of nano particles on Physiological, Biochemical and Morphological parameters of Wheat seeds” as required under the rules on 30-01-2015.

10. Mr. Muhammad Kashif, Regd. No. 2004-ag-1896, PhD student in the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, UAF has successfully defended his PhD synopsis on 25-02-2015. The title of his synopsis is “Spatio-Temporal Impact Assessment of Wastewater Irrigation on Soil and Water Productivity: Experimental and Modeling Approach”.

11. Mr. Tahir Mahmood, Regd. No. 2001-ag-1487, PhD Animal Nutrition Student of the Institute of Animal Sciences delivered seminar for PhD synopsis defense entitled “Effect of exogenous proteases in poultry by-product meal-based diets on growth performance in broilers” at University level on 28-02-2015. He presented his research at University level. His synopsis was thoroughly discussed by the audience. The supervisory committee of the student critically evaluated his synopsis. The committee found it acceptable and approved his synopsis.

12. Mr. Muhammad Zeshan Ahmed Regd. No. 2007-ag-1891, a PhD student of the Department of Plant Pathology, has successfully defended his PhD synopsis at University level on 13-02-2015. The title of his synopsis was “Survey and Molecular Characterization of pathogens associated with citrus Gummosis from major growing areas of Punjab” However, as per agreed suggestions by the expert and house discussion during the presentation of the synopsis the title was revised and new title of his synopsis is “Molecular Characterization of pathogens associated with citrus Gummosis from major citrus growing areas of Punjab”.

13. Mr. Furqan Ahmad, Regd. No. 2010-ag-1286, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended his PhD synopsis titled “Genetic basis of variation for heat tolerance in upland cotton” on 25-02-2015. As per suggestions given by the teachers/participants during presentation of the synopsis a minor change has been made in the title as “Association mapping for heat tolerance related traits in Gossypium hirsutum L”.

the project entitled “On-Farm R&D Component LCCS Part-B”. Quotations should reach office of the Project Director, On-Farm Research & Development Component LCCS Part-B / WMRC, UAF within 7 days after the publication of this notice. Specifications of said kit can be obtained from the office of WMRC, UAF.
