Working with cancer 7th October 1000 - 1200 This on-line workshop is provided by Maggies Centre and is for anyone affected by cancer and how it impacts on working. It will provide information for both employers and employees on ways to support people experiencing cancer treatment or recovery in a more empathetic and understanding way. Maths and English On-line skills check Available to join 8th October and 9th October We are offering UNISON members in Nottinghamshire an opportunity to try a short skills check which will give you an indication as to what your current skill level is for Maths and English. Many of us may feel that we have become somewhat “rusty” in basic numeracy and literacy skills over the years and would like to check the level we are at currently, with a possibility of improving this for personal development and confidence with these everyday skills. The on-line Skills Checks will take around 15-20 minutes and will be followed by individual, confidential, impartial and unbiased feedback from Chris Donkin a functional skills facilitator running the event on behalf of UNISON. There is no obligation to take part but if you want to access this opportunity then email Chris Donkin in advance of the 8th October via [email protected] to book an on-line check. Similarly, if you want more information about this event then drop Chris an email for more details. Please note that if you want to take part you must register your interest with Chris before 4.00 pm on Tuesday the 6th October. For those UNISON members who do try the skills checks you will be asked to nominate your preferred time on the 8th and the 9th and efforts will be made to allocate you a log on time that is convenient for you. The feedback will be provided by Chris Donkin either by phone, Zoom or MS Teams depending on your preference. This is a great chance for any staff member to take a skill check in a relaxed and informal way and seek personal help if they wish to. The Skills Check will also help highlight anyone who might benefit from upskilling. For this event, UNISON will be working with Nottingham College. There will be the chance for those who want the opportunity to engage in further learning to participate in a short on-line functional skills course to potentially acquire functional skills qualification in Maths or English. This opportunity may be of great interest to those wishing to acquire a level 2 qualification in Maths and/or English. Coping with bereavement 15th October 1015 - 1215 This on-line workshop will be delivered by Cruse Bereavement Care the training will last approximately 2.5 hours, and help participants to: Reflect on the grieving process and gain an understanding of current models that help them understand the impact of grief and bereavement on them Become aware of the impact of loss and bereavement on families Consider, through their own understanding of the impact of loss, the ways they may take care of themselves and other individuals following bereavement Consider skills relevant to their role to help them improve how they communicate with bereaved people during this crisis Develop an awareness of support organisations, and how and when to seek further support or advise others to, including an understanding of the boundaries of their roles To apply: e-mail [email protected] stating, your name, your email, phone number, address and your UNISON membership number and branch.
