Course Information:Minimum Age: 16Course Duration: Maximum 32 hours Course Prerequisites: NoneCourse aims and objectives: This course willprovide an introduction to the organisation anddelivery of safe and enjoyable coachingsessions for young players. It is ideally suited tothose working with groups of young playersand/or teams.

Course Content:Theory: The course will introduce some keyaspects in the following: • Football Club Administration• Player and Coach development• Soccer Parent• Laws of the Game• An introduction to the FA's Long Term

Player Development Model

The course will also provide the following forcandidates:• FA Emergency Aid• FA Safeguarding Children in Football

Practical: Practical elements of the course willprovide an introduction to: • Warm up and cool down game related

activities• Passing and control• Turning with the ball• Dribbling• Shooting• Heading • Goalkeeping• Individual Attacking • Individual Defending • Small sided games

Practical Involvement: Candidates will beencouraged to participate practically tomaximise their opportunities for learning. (Thishowever will not prevent successful completionof the award)

Assessment: Assessment is via successfulcompletion of:1. All pre-requisites (First Aid/SafeguardingChildren)2. All portfolio tasks3. Practical delivery of a 20 minute practicalcoaching activity based on a specific skill andage group, which demonstrates safe practice,organisation, enjoyment and progression tomeet the needs of the players.

Re-assessment: Candidates can be reassessedwithin a 12 month period from registration onthe course.

Course Information:Minimum Age: 16 Course Duration: Approximately 75 hours Course Prerequisites: FA Safeguarding Children,Emergency First Aid, FA Online Laws of the Game.Note these are not part of the course programmeso candidates will have to complete theseseparately if they haven’t already completed them.Course aims and objectives: This nationallyrecognised qualification will provide candidateswho have an ongoing involvement in football, withthe opportunity to gain knowledge of how toeffectively plan, deliver and evaluate coachingsessions.

Course Content:Theory: The course will introduce a number of keyaspects related to the role of a football coach inworking with youth players. These are delivered viahome based study tasks and Tutor deliveredworkshops.• The roles, skills and qualities of a football

coach• Developing session plans and associated

information for planning• Awareness of safe and organised activities• Preparation for potential accidents, illnesses

and emergencies• A consideration of coaching styles• Coaching session evaluation and self-

reflection• Nutritional needs of football players• Fitness components related to football• The planning of progressive coaching

sessions.

Practical: The practical elements of the course willprovide the following:The principles of attacking to include creating andexploiting space • Passing • Support Play • Ball Control • Dribbling • Running with the ball • Turning • Goalkeeping • Finishing • Heading • The principles of defending to include

denying and restricting space • Defensive play when organised and

outnumbered

In addition candidates will have the opportunity toundertake two observed practical coachingsessions with their tutor and receive feedbackbased on selected criteria. This will form the basisof an opportunity to deliver 12 hours of coaching inthe candidate's work place to apply the experiencegained from the course of training.

Practical Involvement: Candidates will beencouraged to participate practically to maximisetheir opportunities for learning (This however willnot prevent successful completion of the award).

Assessment: Assessment is via successfulcompletion of:1. All pre-requisites (First Aid/SafeguardingChildren/FAL Laws of the Game Online module)2. All candidate portfolio tasks3. Practical delivery of a 35 minute practicalcoaching activity that will be progressed on aspecific theme relating to the course syllabus

Re-assessment: Candidates can be reassessedwithin a 24 month period from registration.Candidates will be charged accordingly.

Course Information:Minimum Age: 16 Course Duration: 32 hours Course Prerequisites: Minimum 1st4sport Level 1Certificate in Coaching Football or QualifiedTeacher (QTS) who has completed the AgeAppropriate Coaching - Introductory Module Who is it for: Aimed at coaches at all levels whowant to become more knowledgeable and effectivewhen coaching young players. There are genericstrands relating to teaching and learning,motivation and self-esteem that are suitable formost coaches. Course aims and objectives: The course willprovide practical sessions and advice for whencoaching this age group, and will increase thecandidate's knowledge of how develop theircoaching to incorporate The FA 4 corner model.The course will cover technical development and inthe physical corner it will offer FUNdamental ideasfor the coach to use as well as suggested activitiesfor the development of football specificmovements. The important Social andPsychological development of the young player isalso examined.

Course Information:Minimum Age: 17Course Duration: 29 hours (to include pre-coursereading and completion of self test questions)Course Prerequisites: Youth Award Module 1 -Developing the EnvironmentWho is it for: Coaches of those involved in thedevelopment of junior football both at thegrassroots level or in the professional game.Course aims and objectives: To provide candidateswho have an ongoing involvement in coachingyoung footballers with an opportunity to improvetheir knowledge and confidence in a range of keyissues around developing and understandingpractice. The course introduces a number ofgeneric strands that are applicable to all players,regardless of age, and these are consolidatedduring module 3 of the award.

Course Content:Theory: Workshops will consider age & maturityissues, different types of practice & the advantagesand disadvantages of each, Unopposed & opposedpractice development, dealing with talentedplayers and issues in planning & evaluating.

Practical Involvement: This is a practically basedcourse. Different types of practices will bedemonstrated and delivered and candidates will beexpected to evaluate these practices as well asplan, deliver and evaluate their own practices.Candidates will be encouraged to take part andthose not taking part will be expected to build ontheir evaluating and observation skills

Assessment: The course has a formativeassessment, which includes planning, delivery &evaluation of a practice. Candidates receive anaction plan as a result of the observations made bythe tutor.

Course Information:Minimum Age: 16Course Duration: Minimum of 18 hours Course Prerequisites: In date FA Emergency AidCertificate and in date FA Safeguarding ChildrenCertificateWho is it for: This course is open to all coacheswho are interested in goalkeeping and wish toenhance their knowledge of a number ofgoalkeeping techniques.Course aims and objectives: This FA GoalkeepingAward will provide candidates with the ability toorganise and develop the key aspects related tobasic individual techniques. It will provide thecandidate with clear guidance on the preparationand planning required to progress the technicalpractices in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Course Content:Practical: The practical elements of the course willprovide candidates with the following elements:• Specific goalkeeping warm ups and cool

downs

• Coaching basic individual techniques including footwork, the set position, handling techniques, diving saves (catching/deflecting/parrying), dealing 1 v1 situations and crosses

• Understanding how to develop and improve the Goalkeepers' technique

• Planning and preparing progressive technical practices

• Maintaining the health and safety of the players and other coaches

• Maintaining the high standards of conduct to promote Association Football

Theory: The theoretical elements of the course willconsolidate the key technical aspects ofgoalkeeping together with the Long Term PlayerDevelopment (LTPD) model.

The two three hour workshops (Safeguarding inFootball and FA Emergency Aid) should also becompleted.

Practical Involvement: Candidates are encouragedto participate practically to maximise theiropportunities for learning. (This however will notprevent successful completion of the award)

Assessment: Assessment is via successfulpractical delivery of a 15 minute goalkeepingcoaching topic.

Re-assessment: Candidates can be reassessed byarrangement with the Course Director.

Course Information:Minimum Age: 16Course Duration: 6 hours Who is it for: This course is for individuals wishingto understand more about the techniques requiredfor coaching Futsal. Course aims and objectives: The aim of this courseis to provide candidates with an understanding ofthe techniques and skills related to the game ofFutsal. This course will help candidates organiseand deliver basic Futsal practices. It will alsoprovide candidates with an introduction to thestructure of the game, the laws and the role Futsalcan play in developing underlying skills andtechniques.

Course Content:• Develop an appreciation and understanding

of the basic techniques related to coaching Futsal

• Demonstrate an understanding of the underlying fundamental principles related to the game of Futsal

• Display a basic understanding of the Futsal Laws of the Game

• Develop an understanding of Futsal as a stand alone game in its own right and the significant variances from conventional5-a-side

• Develop an awareness of the part Futsal can play in the development of young players.

Course Information:Minimum Age: 14Course Duration: 24 hours plus 6 games plusattendance at a Referees Association meeting andNext Step WorkshopCourse Prerequisites: None

For WhomIdeally suited to those wanting to become a refereeinvolved in the 11 a side game both in Youth andAdult football.

Course Aims and Objectives This course will provide an introduction to the lawsof the game as well as developing the practicalskills required to be a football referee.

Course ContentThe course is run over five modules including thecompletion of six matches as a trainee referee, oneof which should be observed by a referee mentor.

Module 1 – IntroductionThis module will introduce some key aspects in thefollowing:• Laws of the Game• The role of the referee• Consider the skills required to control a

game of football

Module 2 – Practical ElementPractical elements of the course will provide anintroduction to:• Warming up and cooling down activities• Positioning and movement at both set pieces

and in open play• Managing game situations• Signals and communication techniques

Module 3 – ExaminationBoth a multiple choice examination paper and apractical on field assessment are used to establishtheory & practical knowledge.

Module 4 – Refereeing• Six games are used to establish both the

knowledge as well as the practicalities of refereeing.

• One of the games are observed by a referee mentor who offers immediate feedback and development points.

Module 5 – The Next Steps• Written element - both theoretical and

practical courses• Theory DVD - used in mainly theory based

courses• Practical on field assessment for use on

practical based courses.

Successful candidates will receive an FA Certificateand will qualify as an FA Registered Referee.Further modules are available in order to refereeareas of disability football.

Safeguarding ChildrenPlease note all candidates must undertake an FASafeguarding Children Workshop before thequalification will be awarded. If you are 14 to16, youwill receive a guide to complete; if you are 17 andover, you will be required to book on an FASafeguarding Children Workshop which is includedas part of the course.

Candidates will be encouraged and supported tostart refereeing at the Notts County FC Centre ofExcellence that take place on Sunday mornings, todevelop their skills in a controlled environmenttogether with coaching support.

The FA Basic Sports First Aid course is afoundation sports first aid course aimed at 'lay firstaiders', specifically coaches, teachers, parents andvolunteers, who are responsible for the provision offirst aid when supporting sports activities.

Course Aims:• To provide the student with an understanding of

the general duties, responsibilities and treatment principles of first aid.

• To provide students with the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to recognise and differentiate major from minor injury and the ability to offer basic first aid and injury/illness management and advice to a participant who has sustained illness/injury when engaged in sports activity, or in sports environments.

Course Objectives: On completion of the course, the student should beable to: • Describe the duties, responsibilities, general

treatment principles and priorities of emergency care provision.

• Describe the elements of pre-event preparationin relation to emergency care provision.

• Demonstrate an understanding of basic anatomy and physiology in relation to first aid.

Course Content: The course is six hours and covers both theory andpractical elements and by the end of the workshopeach participant should be able to met thefollowing outcomes:• Apply and extend your existing coaching skills

and experience to meet the needs of players with a range of impairments

• Establish basic communication skills for coaching disabled footballers

• Use appropriate terminology• Identify appropriate safety and medical

considerations• Plan a wide range of coaching sessions for

disabled footballers

• Using the Inclusion Spectrum, plan your coaching sessions to include disabled players or provide alternative appropriate opportunities

• Understand the player pathways available for disabled players including the appropriate structure for competition.

The FA Charter Standard Scheme is a core component of The FA’s National Game Strategy 2012-15. Thescheme establishes minimum standards for football and acts as a quality assurance mechanism recognisingand rewarding well run clubs. As a benchmark for quality, it aims to improve the playing experience for all.

There are four levels to the award, and any affiliated football club can apply for FA Charter Standard status.

FA Charter Standard ClubIt doesn’t matter whether you have one or 51 teams in your club. To achieve this award clubs mustdemonstrate they have the following:• Constitution;• Codes of conduct;• Have a designated volunteer to act as a Club Welfare Officer;• A qualified coach holding a Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football for each team at U16 and below.

For all teams under-17 and above, each team requires a volunteer that holds a valid HSE approved first aid qualification;

• Insurance.

FA Charter Standard Adult ClubTo achieve this award, clubs that have senior teams (under-17 and above) need to demonstrate that they havethe following:• Constitution;• Codes of Conduct;• A volunteer who holds a valid HSE approved first aid qualification for each team at under-17 and above.

FA Charter Standard Development ClubTo achieve this award a club must demonstrate all of the criteria to gain FA Charter Standard Club, plusdemonstrate the following:• Have a minimum of five teams across a minimum of four different age groups;• Have a Football Development Plan in place that has at least three years left to run at

time of application;• Minimum of one coach who holds a Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football;• Minimum of one coach that holds The FA Youth Award Module 1.

FA Tesco Skills is a revolutionary approach to coaching football that gives children aged 5-11 the opportunityto get active, learn new skills and enjoy the game!

The programme offers:- After schools skills coaching courses at Skills Centres across England.- Free holiday skills coaching sessions for boys and girls of all abilities.- Skills coaching in schools supporting over 1,200 primary schools each year.

The full time, professional coaches in Nottinghamshire have a full CRB check, and have undertaken a numberof specialist coaching courses to improve the football skills of 5-11 year olds.

Football Futures is The FA’s volunteering programme for young people aged between 14 to 25.

Volunteers can be recognised and rewarded for volunteering across the six themes:• Theme 1 – Coaching and Working with Teams• Theme 2 – Refereeing• Theme 3 – Running and Supporting Events• Theme 4 – Promoting the Game• Theme 5 – Running and Developing the Game• Theme 6 – Football AmbassadorRecognition comes in the form of certificates for the following milestones of recorded hours – 10, 25,50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200 hours.

There are also many more benefits to the programme, volunteers will gain valuable experience anddevelop skills that can be applied to all walks of life. Once in the programme, volunteers will also beoffered support to gain football related qualifications, with discounts on offer.

In 2011/12 over 100 volunteers were registered in Nottinghamshire, and over 7,000 hours wererecorded, one of the highest figures nationally, with 16 volunteers reaching the 200 hour milestone.

Three volunteers were selected by The FA for a National Coaching Scholarship offering free trainingevents and a personal mentor, with both Becky Williams and Amber Wildgust being offered a secondyear with only 20 volunteers nationally being offered this fantastic opportunity!

In addition Jack Sanders, Kirsty Taylor and James Cottee were also selected to attend The FA’s annualfive day residential Football Futures Camp in July 2012.

The best thing about this programme is that it is FREE to sign up, and you can start logging yourvoluntary hours at any point in the season. If you are already volunteering then why not sign up andget the recognition and rewards you deserve.

The Get into Football programme is a national programme launched by The Football Association with the aimto increase adult participation (16+) by 20,500 players playing football at least once a week by March 2013.The post has been funded through Sport England’s Whole Sport Plan, The Football Association and theNottingham City Football Partnership.

Based at The Nottinghamshire FA the Get into Football Officer will deliver on the City’s Get Into Football Planwhich includes the following areas:

- Develop programmes to grow 11v11 open age male and female football- Development programmes to grow small sided male and female football- Manage and support the transition of youth players to open age football- Identify gaps in football provision within the City- Provide more flexible formats of football

The Get Into Football Officer for Nottingham City is Jody Caudwell who comes to the role with previousexperience within football coaching and the development of the game. Jody will look to build on alreadyestablished links with Nottingham City Football Partnership to ensure the programme delivered issustainable and coincides with The FA’s National Game Strategy in Nottinghamshire.

At Nottinghamshire FA, our aims are to provide more opportunities for girls and women to get involved withfootball in the county, whether playing, coaching or volunteering.

Our work extends to supporting and enhancing existing provisions within schools, junior teams, DevelopmentCentre’s and adult female sides across the county. Our priority is to ensure sustainability within the femalegame and ensure there is a full and clear pathway for those engaged to progress.

Nottinghamshire FA and Nottinghamshire Disability Football Family are leading the way in developing arange of new opportunities, ensuring that every player with a disability, who wants to be involved in thegame has the opportunity to participate, develop and reach their full potential.

We aim to:

· Provide regular football in flexible formats for all· Create and grow a network of Want 2 Play FC junior teams· Create a legacy of skilled coaches to provide sessions for children and adults· Increase the number of opportunities for females with a disability to participate· Increase, develop and sustain opportunities for adults to play· Offer a complete Player Pathway, from Grassroots to England Squads

We develop:

Want 2 Play FC: Teams for children with disabilities aged 7-16 years old, within our FA Charter StandardClubs

Festivals: Community based for anyone to take part and enjoy

Player Development Centre: Provides a high quality coaching programme to the most talented disabilityfootballers from across the county

Cerebral Palsy Centre of Excellence: Hosted on behalf of the East Midlands for talented footballers withCerebral Palsy or brain injuries to place them in a technical programme designed to produce footballexcellence

County Leagues: For teams across the county to come together and compete

Positive Goals: Mental Health Football activities, providing workshops and monthly fixtures

Ability Counts Football: Aimed at day centre’s and schools to come together and compete

We place great emphasis on ensuring that students gain not only recognised qualifications such as NGB Level1 & 2 Coaching Awards but also practical employment experience. For our talented athletes, we offer SportsAcademies in a variety of sports, including men’s and women’s football. These programmes have proven to bea huge success attracting promising young elite athletes to the College from all over the country. SportsAcademies offer training schedules of up to 10 hours per week, excellent training facilities, elite athletesupport programmes in Nutrition, Sport Psychology and Fitness as well as sport coaching from fully qualifiedand professional coaches.

The College also has British College Sport entries in Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Badminton, Athletics,Cross Country & Netball competitions.
