Her two- day-a-week job at Evangelisation Brisbane became four days a week, and sadly that meant the end of her employment in the parish. In her twenty months at Bulimba, Lisa has endeared herself to so many people – supporting parishioners in their bereavement, ministering to the sick, helping organise rosters (especially the musicians), setting up weekly adoration on a Friday, preparing a Youth Mass each term… We will miss her enthusiastic pastoral ministry. Fortunately, she remains a parishioner and we are happy she will still be active in the parish. Best wishes for the next phase, Lisa. We are very lucky to have an excellent replacement! Mr Gerry Crooks has just retired after a decade as principal of St James College in Spring Hill. He is having a little break at present and will start in the parish role when he returns on 25 February. He is already well known at Sts Peter and Paul as our chief organist. Under his leadership, St James has become renowned for its spirit of welcome and inclusion, key qualities of any good Christian community. With his team, he was able to create a strong sense of compassion, respect and understanding of each individual. It is this pastoral experience which will benefit us all when he takes up the mantle as pastoral associate in the parish. 27th January 2019 (Year C)

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time The CHANGING of the GUARD

At the end of December, while everyone was busily celebrating the Christmas feasts, Lisa McKerr quietly ended her term as the Pastoral Associate in the parish. Her two-day-a-week job at Evangelisation Brisbane became four days a week, and sadly that meant the end of her employment in the parish. In her twenty months at Bulimba,

Lisa has endeared herself to so many people – supporting parishioners in their bereavement, ministering to the sick, helping organise rosters (especially the musicians), setting up weekly adoration on a Friday, preparing a Youth Mass each term… We will miss her enthusiastic pastoral ministry.

He is

already well known at Sts Peter and Paul as our chief organist. Under his leadership, St

James has become renowned for its spirit of welcome and inclusion, key qualities of any good Christian community. With his team, he was able to create a strong sense of compassion, respect and understanding of each individual. It is this pastoral experience which will benefit us all when he takes up the mantle as pastoral associate in the parish. Gerry, we are delighted to welcome you on board as an official part of the parish leadership team. Looking forward to a good year together, Sincerely

A sense of humour is a gift from God. Laughter unites us. A Texan farmer goes to Australia for a vacation. There he meets an Aussie farmer and gets talking. The Aussie shows off his big wheat field and the Texan says, 'Oh yeah. We have wheat fields that are at least twice as large.' Then they walk around the ranch a little, and the Australian shows off his herd of cattle. The Texan immediately says, 'We have longhorns that are at least twice as large as your cows.' The conversation has, meanwhile, almost died when the Texan sees a herd of kangaroos hopping through the field and so he asks, 'And what are those?’ The Aussie replies with an incredulous look, 'Don't you have any grasshoppers in Texas?'

NO PARKING please on the paved area in front of the church ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

New volunteers will be paired with more experienced volunteers and are invited to attend the annual orientation session early in 2019. ENTRANCE HYMN

GATHER YOUR PEOPLE CHORUS Gather your people, O Lord. Gather your people, O Lord. One bread, one body, one spirit of love. Gather your people, O Lord.

Draw us forth to the table of life: Brothers and sisters, Each of us called to walk in your light.

We are parts of the body of Christ, Needing each other, Each of the gifts the Spirit provides.

No more harm on the mountain of God; Swords into plough-shares. Free us, O Lord, from hardness of heart.

Wash us, Lord, in the waters of life: Waters of mercy, waters of hope that flow from your side.

GLORIA Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the holy one, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the most high, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION When we eat this bread and drink this cup we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.

LAMB OF GOD Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

COMMUNION HYMN EAT THIS BREAD

CHORUS Eat this bread, drink this cup, Come to me and never be hungry. Eat this bread, drink this cup, Trust in me and you will not thirst.

I am the bread of life, the true bread sent from the Father.

Your ancestors ate manna in the desert but this is the bread come down from heaven.

Eat my flesh and drink my blood, and I will raise you up on the last day.

RECESSIONAL HYMN WE WALK BY FAITH

We walk by faith, and not by sight: No gracious words we hear of him who spoke as none e’er spoke but we believe him near.

We may not touch his hands and side, Nor follow where he trod; Yet in his promise we rejoice and cry “My Lord and God!”

Help then, O Lord, our unbelief, And may our faith abound; To call on you when you are near, and seek where you are found.

That when our life of faith is done in realms of clearer light we may behold you as you are in full and endless sight.
