We are also well aware that this type of connection is not always conducive to our personal well-being. What is conducive and what research has proven is that personal connectedness to family, friends and the community is vital to a person’s physical and mental well-being and growth as we are biologically, cognitively and spiritually ‘wired’ to belong. Our Parish Newsletter each week highlights the many and varied ways in which our community of Sts Peter and Paul celebrates life events, shares information about our engagement in ministry to others, gathers for social events, lists rosters and meetings, and, overall, keeps us in touch with what is happening in our parish community. Over the next month in our Newsletter, we will be reflecting on how Sts Peter and Paul’s Parish is ‘part of our lives and part of our community’. A different aspect of parish life will be the focus each week, with parishioners being invited to share their stories, experiences and views. In addition, there will also be a weekly challenge to get us thinking more about this value of being connected within our parish community and how we can make this a reality. For this week, the first challenge is to look at the Newsletter in a new light: not just as a collation of notices but as an ‘invitation to connect’ within and outside the parish; and then to do something about it by, say, browsing the parish website, ‘liking’ our parish Facebook page or by simply contacting the Parish Office to ensure it has your current details – simple activities that can help to create a new mindset. If we are serious about our parish really becoming ‘part of our lives and part of our community’, let’s join together now in connecting with each other. The challenge is on! Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Part of our Lives, Part of our Community The Value of Being Connected

These days we are all too well aware of the pressures to be connected to others created by social media.

A sense of humour is a gift from God. Laughter unites us A church is handing around the donations box. To entice more donations, the priest says: “Whoever donates the most money for the church can choose three hymns at the end of Mass.” The box makes its way back to the Priest and he looks through it. Shocked, he pulls out a cheque: “Who donated $1000?!” An older woman raises her hand excitedly: “Oh that was me!” The Priest invites her up to thank her and so she can choose her three hymns. She stands at the front, looks around and points at the three most handsome men in the church. “I’ll have him, him and him!”

NO PARKING please on the paved area in front of the church ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

ENTRANCE HYMN

ALL THE EARTH

CHORUS All the earth proclaim the Lord, Sing your praise to God.

Serve you the Lord, heart filled with gladness, Come into his presence singing for joy!

Know that the Lord is our Creator, Yes, he is our Father, we are his own.

We are the sheep of his green pastures, For we are his people, he is our God.

Enter his gates bringing thanksgiving, O enter his courts while singing his praise.

Our Lord is good, his love enduring, His word is abiding now with us all.

GLORIA Glory to God in the highest, and on earth

peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy one, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION We proclaim your death O Lord, and profess your resurrection, until you come again.

LAMB OF GOD

Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

COMMUNION HYMN

CENTRE OF MY LIFE

CHORUS O Lord, you are the centre of my life I will always praise you I will always serve you I will always keep you in my sight

Keep me safe O God, I take refuge in you. I say to the Lord "You are my God, My happiness lies in you alone, My happiness lies in you alone."

I will bless you, Lord, you give me counsel, And even at night direct my heart. I keep you, Lord, ever in my sight Since you are at my right I shall stand firm.

And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad Even in safety shall my body rest For you will not leave my soul among the dead, Nor let your beloved know decay.

You will show me the path of life, The fullness of joy in your presence, At your right hand, at your right hand Happiness forever.

RECESSIONAL HYMN

SING OF THE LORD’S GOODNESS

Sing of the Lord’s goodness, Father of all wisdom, Come to him and bless his name. Mercy he has shown us, His love is forever, faithful to the end of days.

CHORUS

Come then all you nations sing of your Lord’s goodness Melodies of praise and thanks to God. Ring out the Lord’s glory, praise him with your music, Worship him and bless his name.

Power he has wielded, honour is his garment, Risen from the snares of death. His word he has spoken, One bread he has broken, new life he now gives to all.
