STUDENT RECOGNITION

The Marana High School Dance

Team placed 4th in the Nation this

past weekend at the National Dance

Team Competition in Orlando, FL.

They competed with over 64 other

dance teams from around the country.

The dance team will be televised on

ESPN in the next upcoming months! Thank you for supporting our Dance Team.

This year's Academic Decathlon topic was Innovations in Energy. The students focused on

Energy Policy, Energy Science, Nature Writing, Innovations in Music and Art and the Economics

of Energy. They also gave a prepared and impromptu speech and a personal interview. Although

there were no returners on the team, they worked hard to learn the ropes of this weird and

wonderful competition. Our team placed 4th out of 13 teams in our region and 14th out of 75

teams in the state. Our team score qualified us for the State Tournament to be held at ASU in

March.

Team members were: Benjamin Davis, Luke Sorensen, Gwen Morris, Logan Murphy-Ward, Austin

Wheeler, Ashlee Gibbs, Devon Brandt, Sadie Mudgett and Delanie Sorensen.

Students also compete as individuals in each topic against students in their same GPA category.

Honors are A students, Scholastics and B students and Varsities are C (and below) students.

Here are the medals won by our students:

Ben Davis - Honors Gold Math

Luke Sorensen - Honors Silver Science,

Bronze Speech

Logan Murphy - Scholastic Gold Math, Silver

Speech, Bronze Interview

Austin Wheeler - Scholastic Gold Math,

Silver Econ

Ashlee Gibbs - Scholastic Silver Interview

ATHLETICS

Tiger Pride

First of all, TIGER PRIDE!

Marana Athletic News

The Culture, Commitment and Competitiveness philosophy is visible throughout our programs. We are on the verge of a new season and look forward to seeing the Tiger Pride Culture of baseball, softball, track, tennis and men's volleyball this spring season. Our programs have an expectation of Commitment from their athletes to be true teammates and train diligently to be the most Competitive team and individual as possible! The Ladies Basketball team is in the Section Finals this week at Amphi on Tuesday at 5:15 pm. The Lady Tigers continue to show the 3C's philosophy on the court with their opponents being surprised by the talent and tenacity of every team member. This team currently has 21 wins which has not been accomplished since 2008. These Tigers are hungry, they want to win, and they are fun to watch! Hope to see you on Tuesday at Amphi HS! Wrestling "Tiger Style" has three of Marana's finest wrestlers headed to the State Tournament. Congratulations to David Tilley, Travis Howard and Storm Downing who qualified for state in their weight class. All three of these Tigers have lived with the 3C's philosophy and have proven to be some of the best in state. Thank You to their families for allowing these young men to make the sacrifices necessary to reach their goal and represent Marana High. REMINDER: Spring sport try-outs begin Monday Feb. 9th. Please make sure all necessary paperwork is complete and turned into the Athletic Department before attending try-outs. This is an AIA requirement. Your athlete cannot participate in try-outs without this step completed. If you have any questions, call Mrs. Holyoak or Ms. Montiel Turner at 520-616-6475. Thank you and Tiger Pride!
