THE CITIZEN-TIMES, Scottsville, Ky., Thursday, February 2, 2012—PAGE 3 A good crowd attended the reception held last Satur- day at Trammel Volunteer Fire Department for Bobby Thomas and his daughters from Florida. I hope I’ve got- ten all the names of those there that day. Bobby Thomas of DeLand, Fla.; Pat Thomas Davis of Casselberry, Fla.; Jeannie Thomas Spillers of Deleon Springs, Fla.; Stan and Mi- chelle Bell, Mollie Vaughan and Nick Bell of Hermit- age, Tenn.; Barbara Davis Chilcutt of Murray, Ky.; Kelly Chilcutt of Springfield, Tenn.; Jimmy and Evelyn Landers Fox and Mike and Diana Landers Logan, all of Christiana, Tenn.; Larry and Phyllis Davis Pardue of Old Hickory, Tenn.; David Rippy of Bowling Green; J.C. and Evona White of Alvaton. Jason, Kim, Hannah and Thomas Lambert of Bowl- ing Green; Mark and Lin- da Lyles Lambert, Lolita Landers, Darrel and June Lyles, Kaylynn Lyles, Mil- dred Lyles, Terry Lyles, Seth Ransom, Wayne Rippy, Wanda Stovall, Elree and Gladys Yates and Delton Duke, all of Scottsville. Bobby, Pat and Jeannie spent Thursday night with his cousin Phyllis Pardue and her husband, Larry. Bobby, Pat and Jeannie had supper with Darrel and June Lyles on Friday night. After eating, Bobby offered to wash the dishes...they were using paper plates! They stopped by Food Lion on Sunday morning to see Tim Lyles. I’ve had some folks ask me if I hurt my legs on some tile flooring at the YMCA. Let me clear that up. I had some floor tiles at home that I was moving. I had set them on my rolling walker (which has a seat built in) and they slipped off the seat and skinned my shins. I didn’t want anyone to think that I had hurt myself at the Y. I’ll be back in the water aerobics class as soon as I’m healed. I want to send a big “West Allen Neighbors Hi” to Phyl- lis Pardue of Old Hickory, Tenn. She says she always reads Cousin Minnie’s news every week and cuts out all the recipes. Phyllis is the daughter of the late Walter and Mae Davis of Trammel. Another big “hi” goes to Ralph Hazelip of Bowling Green. I’m glad you’re able to keep up with family and friends by reading our week- ly news. Visiting Frankie Lambert on Sunday for lunch were Rita, Katie and Bill Wallace, Tony and Brandi Gann, So- phia and Lucas and Dianne Lambert. Sheila Uhls and Mark and Linda Lambert came by later for a visit. I talked to Billy Willough- by at the Y this week. He said he had made the beef stew that was in Cousin Minnie’s news and it was the best he had ever tasted. Billy works out in the fit- ness room and changes into his workout shoes. Someone is always tying his shoelaces together. I wonder if his ini- tials are “JDO”? Wayne Weaver told me at the Y about the good news from Liberty Church over the weekend. They had a youth lock-in and about 50 attended. Four were saved on Friday night and one was saved on Sunday. What a blessing! Wayne was one of the chaperones. Rosie Thrasher, Tammy Green and Angie Duertaye visited Frankie Lambert this past week. I’ve got reports on the new consignment store where York and Massey’s used to be. It’s Purple Morning Farm Country Crafts. I hear they have a lot of beautiful collectibles, old cookie jars and lots of dolls. They had a great collection of glassware from all eras. The windows are dressed in a very attrac- tive display. If you haven’t checked them out, stop by. They would be glad to show you around. Mechele, Scott and Kailex Dallas of Portland, Tenn. visited Nancy Duncan and Sky on Saturday evening. Kailex and Sky had a great time playing with a ball. Happy anniversary to: Stacy and Cathy Herrington, 3rd; Jenner and Marie Blan- kenship, 6th. Our recipe for the week: Jo’s Easy Refrigerated Crescent Roll Cheese Danish 2 cans ready to use refrig- erated crescent rolls 2 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 egg 1 egg white Glaze: 1/2 c. powdered sugar 2 Tbsp. milk 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract Preheat oven to 350° and grease a 13x9-inch baking pan. Lay a pack of crescent rolls in the pan and pinch the openings together. Beat the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and egg to- gether until smooth. Spread the mixture over the crescent rolls evenly and then lay the second pack of crescent rolls on top of the cheese mixture and brush with egg white. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the top is golden brown. Top with glaze after cooling for 20 minutes. What Not To Wear If You Teach Preschool! A colleague and teacher friend of mine told me once “Oh, if I taught preschool I would never ever wear white pants to school.” She continued to tell me that you would never get the stains out. I just smiled and politely nodded, not wanting to make her sound petty. I however have a complete- ly different take on what to wear and how to look after you have spent a day in a preschool classroom. When you teach preschoolers or children of any age it should not be about the color or the clothes that you wear. It is about your passion for teaching and the love and compassion you have for your students. At the end of almost any day I can take a look in a full length mirror and know what kind of day I had. If my hair is still all in place then I did not sing and dance, in- teract and play enough with the children. If my clothes are clean and unblemished then I did not get down on their level, we did not paint or glue, go outside or do much of any- thing in the way of having fun while learning. If my pants do not have dirty hand prints all over them, especially right above the knees, then I did not receive hugs from my little ones in my classroom. If my face does not have some sort of sticky residue on my cheeks, I have not re- ceived any “I love you, Mrs. Bryant” kisses. If I do not have snot or tear stains on my shoulder then I did not comfort a cry- ing or sick child. If I come home exhausted, smudged, disheveled and a smile on my face, then I know I have had a wonder- ful day with my students in preschool. What does the Bible say about our clothing, Colos- sians 3:12-14 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentle- ness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive what- ever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in unity. We as Christians have a responsibility to put forth every effort to live a Godly life for divine grace and hu- man responsibility go hand in hand. So what if the child’s little hand is sticky? If it reach- es for you as a teacher you need to be there to take it and guide it. s e r e n d i y T i p By Janet Bryant Revival Set Samson Street Church of God, 411 Samson Street, Glasgow, Ky., will have re- vival services beginning Saturday, Feb. 4, weeknight services will be at 7 p.m. and Sunday service at 6 p.m. Bro.
