merce (SCCC) is organized for and dedicated to advancing the commercial, industrial, and civic inter-ests of the Scottsville community and its trade area, which includes Southern Albemarle County (Esmont, Keene) and Northern Buckingham County . Estab-lished in 1964 by local businessmen, it is a duly char-tered member of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce .

The SCCC works diligently to promote the busi-ness, cultural, and historical aspects of this market area through networking, advertising, customer re-ferral, promoting tourism, legislative alerts, business showcasing, and revitalization efforts .

SCCC Business Meeting is held bimonthly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, 7:30 p .m . at the Chamber offices at The Scottsville Visitors Center, at 265 Valley Street, Scottsville .

A TOWN GOVERNMENT TO SERVE YOUThe Town of Scottsville was incorporated in 1833 and op-

erates under a Mayor and Town Council form of government . The six-member Town Council and the Mayor are elected from at-large districts for a term of two years . Elections occur on the first Tuesday of May in even numbered years .

The Town Council meets for public session on the third Monday of every month at 7 p .m . in the Victory Hall, 401 Val-ley Street . Meetings are broadcast locally on the Community Channel 3 on Community CableVision . The Town Council also meets for a Work Session on the second Monday of every month at 7 p .m . Much of the work of the Town Council is done through committee . If you are interested in serving on a com-mittee, or if you would like to request that an issue be placed on the agenda of a meeting, please call the Town Office .

Other Town boards include the Planning Commission, the Architectural Review Board, and the Board of Zoning Appeals . The Planning Commission develops a Comprehensive Plan every five years to guide development in the Town, updates the Town’s Zoning Ordinances, and hears zoning issues . The Architectural Review Board’s role is to protect the character of the Historic District by reviewing plans for new construction and alterations to structures within the town . The Board of Zoning Appeals hears requests for variances to the zoning ordinance and appeals of determinations by the Zoning Administrator .

Each of these boards is filled by volunteers receiving no compensation for their time and effort, other than the satisfac-tion of knowing they have given their best to serve the com-munity .
