THE CITIZEN-TIMES, Scottsville, Ky., Thursday, January 26, 2012—PAGE 3

Several of our neighbors over around the Franklin Road were hit hard last Tuesday by the storm that came roaring through.

Virginia Graves was counting her blessings as she looked on both sides of her property and saw the damage that her neighbors received. Cary and Melissa Calvert counted over 60 trees that were blown down. On the other side, Mickey Gregory’s home received major damage.

Bobby Thomas of De-land, Florida, and his two daughters will be coming to Kentucky to visit January 26-29. If you’d like to see Bobby, come to the Tram-mel Volunteer Fire Depart-ment on Saturday at 2 p.m. Finger foods will be served. Bobby is the son of the late

Elvis and Gertrude Davis Thomas.

One of my neighbors had a colonoscopy on Monday. The doctor gave him a prescrip-tion to fill for his “cleans-ing.” After it was filled, they noticed on the warnings on the Miralax that it “may cause diarrhea.” Well, imag-ine that!

Visiting Frankie Lambert on Saturday were Earline Sircy, Nancy Duncan and Sky, Sheila Uhls, Rita Wal-lace, Chloe, Emily and Lib-erty Falica. Frankie enjoys all her visitors.

The dinner that Shiloh United Methodist Church holds every fifth Sunday was held last Sunday to celebrate Elree and Gladys Yates’ anniversary. A large crowd attended.

Gladys and Elree visited Nancy Duncan and Sky one day last week.

I went to the Y on Monday, but didn’t get in the water. I had an accident with some floor tiles and skinned both legs, so will have to wait a few days about getting in the pool. I worked out in the fitness room on the nu-step.

I recently read this poem and thought I’d share it with you. It didn’t have a title and no credit for an author was given.

A candle’s but a simple thing, it starts with just a bit of string,

Yet dipped and dipped

with patient hand, it gathers wax upon the strand,

Until, complete and snowy white, it gives at last a lovely light.

Life seems so like that bit of string, each deed we do a simple thing,

Yet day by day if on life’s strand, we work with patient heart and hand,

It gathers joy, makes dark days bright, and gives at last a lovely light.

Read Psalm 27. Here are a couple of verses from that chapter: The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ... Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Get well wishes go to Wilma Stinson. She used to work at The Citizen-Times. Her daughter stopped by to let The C-T gang know how she was doing.

A get well wish and prayers go to Charles Vick who had surgery recently. Others on the prayer list include Patri-cia Lambert, Sharon Oliver, James Murley, David Towe, Jerry Uhls and Martha Rod-gers.

Sympathy is extended to Marie Doss for the loss of her sister, Dimple Boyd Birdwell, of Cookeville.

Sympathy is also extend-ed to the family of Mildred

Shields. She worked at The Medical Center for several years. She loved people and was very kind and good to the patients. She loved to read and I shared books with her when my husband had to be in the hospital so much.
