THE CITIZEN-TIMES, Scottsville, Ky., Thursday, January 5, 2012—PAGE 5 Happy New Year to ev- eryone. How quickly 2011 passed. My grandmother al- ways said the older you be- came the faster time passed, that the Lord made it that way as you couldn’t do as much to occupy your time. My Daddy-in-law used to tell me congress should pass a 36 hour day for me, so I could get every thing done. Mary D. White called tonight (Monday). She is home, doing well. For supper one night both her daugh- ters-in-law, Izetta and Glo- ria, sent her supper. Said it was enough for all week. Her family is so kind to her. When spring gets here we all will feel better. Right now it is snowing, so exciting! The fireplace looks so cozy. Yancy and Ainsley called asking if there was any news about schools be- ing closed tomorrow. They like snow, but makes carry- ing the mail difficult or hav- ing to be out for any occupa- tion. Want to thank the road crew for getting the roads salted so soon last week. They do an excellent job, have to get out very early on a night like this. Barbara McClard had her family for a Christmas meal on Christmas Eve. Some came back on Sunday for leftovers. After a delicious dinner, gifts were opened. Then bingo, with prizes, was played. Thought that was as much fun as opening gifts. Ann told of their Pastor Dennis Key asking who be- lieved eating cabbage and black eyed peas would bring good luck. She held up her hand. We had that here, or Hoppin John, need to do all we can to help out. Best to depend on the Lord. Recently Francis Denton died in Indiana. He was a first cousin to Jimmy Clay Nichols. Ephesians 4:31, 32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, ten- derhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Some of Annice Conner’s visitors were Patsy Oliph- ant Bunch and Billie Ann Oliphant. They brought her a poinsettia. Barbara Mc- Clard stopped by Sunday night. MaKayla, Austin York and his girl friend, came bearing gifts from Kay and Marshall Harwood. Louise Pardue and her son, Billy Calvert, visited her Sunday afternoon. Eva Nell Oaks, Todd and John Calvert were by. Annice gave John Ben’s duck call. Maurine Shoe- make Henley and Mary Arterburn called. Of course, she had Hannah Roberts, who was in from Califor- nia visit her several times in the week she was home. She was down to the Rob- erts to eat with them and to visit with grandchildren, Rachel and Kyle Galbraith, Ill., John Weaver and his finance, Claire Pennamon, Madisonville, Ky. Karen Taylor and Laura Harwood visited Ruth Har- wood Sherrell Christmas day for 45 minutes or so. Robert and Barbara Har- wood, Wanda Stovall, Clyde and Sue Nell Harwood visit- ed-all bringing her gifts the week of Christmas. Barbara McClard had New Year’s Eve supper at Kim Shockley’s home. Oth- ers there included Virginia Shockley, Juanita Weiss, and Rhonda Parrish. Kim had a delicious meal and her house was beautifully deco- rated for the holidays. She has been retired for about two years and has done a lot for family, friends, church and community during her retirement. Thanks to Kim for her unselfish acts of kindnesses. Olivia Harwood spent Thursday night. Friday we swam at the YMCA with Ainsley Gardner, who came home with us to spend the night. Then MacKenzie and Finley Grace spent Satur- day night with their MeMe and us. Children, and their children, truly are a gift from the Lord. So sorry to hear Judy Cox’s house was on fire Christmas day about 8 a.m. Sent emails to Zion church members to pray for her and our pas- tor, as he is a volunteer fire- fighter-Scottsville. He was a little late for Sunday School. He preached a wonderful sermon. Good news-the fire didn’t advance and soon out. No water or electricity, some repair work and painting to do. Thank you, Lord and the firefighters. Certainly enjoy Janet White Bryant’s column in this paper. She is from Hol- land, went to Mt. Zion Ele- mentary, in the same grade as Mary Bess. Always loved her family. Christmas Eve our imme- diate family had late dinner here and opened gifts. They draw names-all but those under 13, Clyde and me. They gave us a big screen TV and a very nice cabinet. Sometimes I look over there and think someone is walk- ing by the window! It is so very pleasant to be with our children and their families, consisting of Laura Harwood, Karen Tay- lor, Mary Bess Pedigo, Mary Elizabeth Brown, MacKen- zie and Finley Grace, An- nell and David Becker, Elea Sue (New York City) and Jacob Soler, Rebekah, Jim- my Neal, Yancy and Ains- ley Gardner, Trey, Brandy, Hunter, Emma, and Olivia Harwood, who also gave me a snuggie for watching that TV. Brandy had sent an old sliced ham earlier in the week. Clyde fried most of it. Trey took some home with him. They all, for once, had all the ham they could eat. Then earlier in the week Tommy Broughton (thank you) gave me an old ham that we took to Smoke Shack to be cooked-umm- good. Had it, and Clyde fried another ham we’d bought for Christmas Day. It was pot luck-so much, and many dishes. Those here were Annice Conner, Rick, Sue Neal Roberts, Erline and Jeff Broughton, John and Hannah Roberts, Rachel and Kyle Galbraith (later), Mary Bess, Mary Elizabeth and girls, Michelle, Joel and Kris Broughton (later), the Gardners (later), the Trey Harwoods (later). Then Tuesday, Dec. 27 Joy and Jeremy Harwood, New Mexico, visited here a couple of nights. All too soon they were gone. They, Laura, Karen and we met at Cracker Barrel for breakfast, Wednesday, after Clyde’s treatment. Trey came over to see them and eat break- fast with us Thursday. Jeremy just called from near Memphis asking if we’d lost a cat. We had searched every where for “Cat”. We found her bobbed tailed sister cat “Kit” on top of the house! We called her to the patio where we could reach her. Got the step stool, Karen climbed on it, called to Kit, grabbed her by the nape of the neck, let her down, still no “Cat.” It had traveled to B.G., then to Memphis under the hood of the rented truck Jeremy drove. He said it was OK, just scared-to say the least! Don’t know what the out- come will be, but Karen and Laura said they were going get her Saturday. That is too much gas and time. I’ve had many pets in my life- time, so it is easier for me to turn loose of one, though I do think a lot of her. (P.S. They drove 560 miles to get that “Cat.” When Karen has a place of her own she gets both cats if she loves them that much.) The Gardners met with all the Morgan’s kin at Faye Burris’ home for noon din- ner Christmas day. The Trey Harwoods ate with Deena and Jerry Wood. The Joel Broughtons ate with Helen Willoughby’s family at noon. January 2, Clyde and I took down the tree, all the deco- rations-inside and out (all but Joe’s lighted trees out- side that he took down), did laundry, including guest’s bed sheets, vacuumed, ate two meals; he cleaned the fireplace, filled the wood box, got a nice, cozy fire go- ing in the fireplace, and I wrote this. Waiting for the 10 p.m. news to hear about school and the roads. Mon- roe County went to school today. Wishing each of you a blessed New Year.
