Prayer: St Teresa

This week saw a terrible accident in one of India’s

largest cities, Kolkata, where Mother Teresa worked for the poor. Her feast day was this

Wednesday.

Saint Teresa of Kolkata, Jesus called you to bring the light of His love to those who

live in darkness.

By tender, loving care for the poorest and the neediest,

you became the sign of God’s presence,

of Jesus in our suffering brothers and sisters

and to serve Him with humility and joy.

Teach us to be carriers of God’s tender love and mercy and so bear witness that God still loves the world through

each one of us.

Amen.

Any parent formal wear will be gratefully accepted as they need to feel special too.

INFORMATION CENTRE NEWSPeer teaching before school Duke of Edinburgh peer teaching morning program is in full swing. We have approximately fifty pairs who will arrive at the library at 8.30, two mornings a week for ten weeks.

Students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Program volunteer to teach younger students as part of their service. A variety of skills are targeted such as: essay writing, comprehension, science, grammar, any skill a student may require or have missed, due to life’s hiccups. Stella would like to acknowledge the peer teaching pairs, and their families, for committing to the ten-week program, as we know life is frantically busy. Many of the students who now tutor were originally tutored by previous Duke of Ed participants. Thank you for paying it forward.

After School Study After school study is being embraced by a new cohort of Year 11 students. Study can be a lonely and frustrating activity; this is why many students form study groups for mutual support.

This Year 11 study group regularly books the library conference room and utilises Stella’s After School Tutors. This week, they were organizing subject notes and binding them in preparation for Year 12. Well done ladies – love your work!

SportSPORTS REPORTAthletics Congratulations to the Stella athletics teams who competed in the NSW Athletics Sydney Nitro Event at Sydney Olympic Park last Friday, 31 August. This was a very exciting carnival against the best athletics school teams in NSW. The Stella girls were AMAZING!

Our Open team excelled on the night. All of our athletes in this team finished in the top 3 places in their events. The results of all events are collated, with bonus points added and power plays for double points in certain events. Stella had some tough competition against the teams from PLC Pymble and Abbotsleigh, but after a very nervous wait, the Stella Open team was announced the winners of the event. They will now progress through to the national final in Cairns in December.

Our Junior team also had some great results. It was a very large and tough competition in the junior event, and our team finished 12th overall. A great achievement at this high level of competition!

Congratulations to the members of both teams: Open: Lara Williams, Emily Smith, Amy Polikowski, Sydney Kania, Sophie Wickham and Tasma Woolley Junior: Holly Wickham, Lily Grenenger Megan Edwards, Ashling Carroll, Kylah Whyte, Abi Gartner and Abbey Andresson

Soccer Congratulations to the Stella U15 Soccer team who won the NSWCCC Soccer Championships this week. This team won the BBSSSA Championships early in Term 2. They then progressed through to the knockout rounds. They had to play against country schools to make it through to the final series, which was played at the NSW Football Headquarters at Valentine Park this week. On Tuesday they played Marist Sisters, Woolwich and had a great win 3 – 0. This win put the team into the grand final against St Patrick’s Sutherland. It was a tough game, but the Stella team dominated and ended up winning 3 – 0. Throughout the whole series, the team has only had 1 goal scored against them in 8 games! They deserve their title of NSWCCC Junior Champions!

Well done to all members of the team: Alex Alle, , Molly Crotty, Beth Moran, Becky Hickey, Kate Varvaressos, Chiara Agostino, Issy Stein, Keira Coates, Milly Ford, Elise Abbey, Piper Simons, Elena Buono, Madeleine *, Sienna Bousamra, Shay Hollman and Cybella Macindoe.
