Make Steinbrenner a School of Excellence!

Complete this short survey to help us develop the path to improving our school!

Steinbrenner High School has been a designated National PTA School of Excellence for the past two years and your PTSA is now taking steps to renew that designation!

Help us make a substantial, positive impact on student success and strengthen our family-school partnership. Your Steinbrenner PTSA Excellence Team is collaborating with the school community to identify areas needing improvement and implement an action plan for success. We are inviting our parents, students, teachers, & administration to help us accomplish this by taking a short online Baseline Survey (click on link above). The results of the survey will be provided to National PTA.

Throughout the year, we will use National PTA resources and trainings to implement an improvement action plan. To determine the success of our action plan, we will survey the community once again near the end of the school year. The results will be submitted once again to National PTA along with a narrative and application to renew our status as a School of Excellence.

Please participate in this important survey!

Thank you! Your School of Excellence Team

Start with Hello—Sept 23-27

The second annual Start with Hello- week, a national program developed in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, was supported by the PTSA and various student and faculty members. The program was expanded this year and plans are already in place to grow it even further next year. If engaging students in attempts to reduce social isolation is of interest to you, we welcome your participation in building a bigger and better program for next year.

1st Quarter Conference Night

Many people came together, under the leadership of Deanna Marrow, to provide the teachers with an authentic Cuban meal, delivered straight from Ybor, on the 1st Quarter Conference Night. Volunteers at this event not only got a chance to provide a greatly appreciated service, but also got a chance to interact with the teachers in a way that is very rewarding. Contact [email protected] if you are interested in assisting with any future events.

Campus Clean-Up

Our first Campus Clean-Up took place on September 28. The landscaping support provided to the school

is very limited. Many of the beds have become overgrown and full of weeds. We are hoping to

schedule Campus Clean-Ups on a regular basis to allow all students an opportunity to earn service

hours and spruce up a place that they spend a great deal of time. Parents and teachers are also welcome to join in the “fun”. All events will be posted on the

PTSA website. Click here to access the website.

THE DISCONNECT ZONE

BEFORE AFTER IN USE

DONOR’S CHOOSE

The GSHS Media Center is developing an area dedicated to mindfulness and learning stress reduction techniques. Dr. Dillon, our Media Specialist, has received funding for the first phase via Donor’s Choose. This area of the library is being established to include soft seating, books and tools like yoga mats, indoor plants, a small fountain and adult coloring—in addition to books about stress management and mindfulness. The Phase 1 grant purchased a large area rug the students are already enjoying. This space is called The Disconnect and will be a “no phone zone” intended to help students refocus themselves and find a few moments of calm during the day as needed.

The next phase is live for funding donations via Donor’s Choose and will purchase floor cushions, a small bistro table and mindful coloring books. Please consider donating using this link: https://www.donorschoose.org/SteinbrennerMedia

In addition, donations of small “stress balls” are welcome. If you attend a conference and get some as vendor freebies, consider donating to The Disconnect as stress tools for students.

Support Our Robotics Team

The Steinbrenner Robotics Team is a group of high school students who want to spend extra time at school, studying, collaborating, designing, programming, and engineering a robot that will compete and hopefully win in the VEX Robotics competitions. Yes, you read that right; these teenagers want to spend more time at school creating a robot and then go out there and show the world what they have learned. Of course, these competitions cost money. Steinbrenner’s ROTC has generously offered to share equipment with us and together we will work with elementary and middle schools in a service-learning project. Please consider donating toward the success of the Robotics Team. We greatly appreciate any amount you feel comfortable with to support these young adults who inspire every day. We would also appreciate if you can share this information so we can reach more people.

Donating to the Team is easy. Go to https://www.finditfunditflorida.com/hillsborough/grant/32860/

On behalf of my amazing students, I thank you.
