A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Steinbrenner Parents and Students
As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, it is truly one like no other! We are excited to welcome students back on our campus for the first time since March 2020.
Although our students did not take state assessments last year, we continued to set records at Steinbrenner by increasing our overall graduation rate from 97.9% to 98.6% and our overall AP pass rate from 64% to 73%. We look forward to this coming year where we will continue to strive for success and reach new levels of achievement in all areas. Congratulations to all of the students, teachers and families who contribute to Steinbrenner’s continued success!
The safety of our students is more important than ever. Many measures have been put in place to protect our students from the threat of COVID-19 exposure including the wearing of masks at all times, one directional hallways, sanitation stations in every classroom and frequent cleaning of all high traffic areas. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in protecting the safety and well being of everyone on our campus In addition to protecting students against COVID-19, we recently implemented a new system called Centegix which allows enhanced security measures on campus to allow any faculty member in our school to lock down the campus at a moments notice if necessary. We continue to encourage our students to adhere to the policy of “see something, say something” to ensure the safety of our campus.

We also hope all students will find a way to get involved in their high school. While there may be some non-traditional approaches to our extracurricular activities this year, we will still find ways to enhance our students’ high school experience. We are planning a virtual club rush in the month of September and will host virtual club meetings throughout the year. Athletic teams have been practicing and sports schedules have been released. Thank you to all the adults who volunteer their time to make all of these opportunities available to our students. Parents can also get involved by joining our award winning PTSA program that works tirelessly to promote the successes of every student.
Finally, our first conference night of the year will be September 28th. This event will likely take place in a virtual format and we will be contacting you with more information as the date approaches. We hope that if you have concerns about your student’s academic progress, you will plan to attend. Online grades can be monitored through Canvas. We also encourage you to check Twitter regularly for updates on important information happening in our school.

Ever wonder how much of your money actually goes to the school from those endless wrapping paper or candle fundraisers? With our new direct donation
drive, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, 100% of the proceeds go to support the mission of Steinbrenner’s PTSA.
Funds will be limited this year. Bridge the gap with your qualifying charitable donation and help your PTSA support our students and teachers.
PTSA will be supporting the students and teachers under both the Steinbrenner e-Learning and Brick & Mortar options.
Last year your PTSA was able to provide over $4000 in teacher grants, $10,500 in Senior Scholarships, and $11,000 in improvements to our school and much more. Consider donating and help us continue to provide these and many more valuable programs.

Steinbrenner PTSA is a 501c3 organization and we provide a large amount of support to our students, teachers, & school community. The PTSA supports a variety of educational initiatives such as Senior Scholarships, grants for teacher/classroom needs, arts competitions, and Community Interest Safety Panels.
Due to the shift in normal functioning, we are looking to businesses in our community to help our school succeed this year.

Senior parents and students, requirements for PTSA scholarships are on our website.
Don’t forget! To qualify, students must:
• Be a PTSA member by December 31, 2020.
• Obtain 5 PTSA approved volunteer hours before February 5, 2021.

STEINBRENNER REFLECTIONS
Do you enjoy art, music and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films and taking photos? Then join us and have fun unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year’s theme is, “I Matter Because…,” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts.
ALL Steinbrenner students are invited to participate, whether you are e-Learning or physically in school!
Due to the pandemic, this year all entries will need to be submitted ONLINE.
Students can submit their completed works of art in one or all available arts categories:
• Dance Choreography (.avi or .mp4 format)
• Film Production (.avi or .mp4 format)
• Literature (.pdf file)
• Music Composition (.mp3 or .wav file, and score in .pdf)
• Photography (.jpeg, .jpg, or .png)
• Visual Arts (format TBD)

The deadline for submitting Steinbrenner Reflections entries is October 23.

Senior Banners on Sale NOW!
This year we continue a tradition at Steinbrenner High School. SENIOR BANNERS!
Your high-quality vinyl banner will be a lifetime memento for you and your graduate. Use it for your private graduation party, college send- off party, or hang on your house to celebrate your Senior.
The banners will be hung in the cafeteria and hallways toward the end of second semester 2021 and remain until the end of the last week of school for seniors.
The students are WOW’ed on the day they arrive to school and discover the banners are hung. Its been a huge hit with the seniors over the past years and is something they look forward to!
SPECIAL NOTES:
• Two sizes to choose from: 2 x 3 and 2 x 6
**Small banners (2 x 3) have minimal option: You may customize only with the name of the giver. i.e. “love, mom and dad” etc.
**Large banners (2 x 6) may have your student’s picture (provide a high res digital photo to me via email), your own personal message, & may include the name of the university your student will be attending (may not put the trademarked logo), i.e., “We are very proud of you! Good Luck at Harvard!”. (Message subject to review and approval by school).
COST: Small-$35.00 (2X3) Large-$70.00 (2X6)
All net proceeds go to the senior class ONLY! We want to send them off in style!
Students may purchase banners too!

4th ANNUAL PARKING SPACE AUCTION
Thank you to ALL that participated in the 4th annual parking space auction. Your desire and commitment to make this charitable event a success during this time was unparalleled. We were successful in raising $9650 that will directly go toward student scholarships.
Congratulations to the following students whose AWESOME parents won a space: Amberlyn S., Grace J., Taylor B., Aidan D.
You may ask, why would a parent purchase a parking space? Besides supporting the many charitable efforts of Steinbrenner PTSA, one parent shared a really nice story. The request was for a specific space and the reason was that Aidan’s older brother had the same spot at one time. When the two rode together, they would sit in the car and listen to music together before class. Aidan wanted the same space to build and reflect on those great memories with his brother! In this time of COVID, and the constant uncertainty of school start or stop, this is such a great story forgetting all the negativity and remembering the positive! Enjoy your space Aidan.

Earn volunteer hours toward the PTSA Senior Scholarship by submitting an article to the Steinbrenner PTSA Newsletter.
Submit an article for publication in the PTSA Newsletter & provide a picture or two. Your topic can be about anything school related.
Deadline to submit an article to the next newsletter is September 24. Articles must be well written, are subject to editing, and approval by Ms. Ewell.
