PARISH PROTOCOL DURING THE COLD
AND FLU SEASON
(Advent to Holy Week)
This seems an appropriate time to suspend the reception of
the chalice at Mass as we enter the cold and flu season. If
you have a bad cold or flu, you are dispensed from the
Sunday Mass obligation. Also, simply acknowledge people
at Mass with a friendly nod or gesture if you have a cold.
Hand disinfectant is available at all the doors of the Church.
Stay well!

our Christmas trees, the parish finds itself in need
of four new or slightly used pre-lit Christmas
trees ranging from 6 to 7 feet in height. If you are
able to help out please call the rectory (438-3230).
As always, thank you for your generous spirit!

The Pastor’s Corner
A blessed Advent! Adventus Domini, the coming of
the Lord, was the hope of God's Chosen People for 5,000
years. We wait but four short and busy weeks and we’ll
listen to the words of Isaiah, St. Paul, and John the Baptist.
St. Paul's advice in today's Second Reading nuances our
growth in the Lord. "May the Lord make you increase and
abound in love for one another and for all..." Just as the increase of
faith is a lifelong grace, so we shouldn’t rush the symbols of
season; let them appear slowly around you. As with the
Spirit, so it is with the Advent symbols. We'll soon see
window candles and lit trees, hear carols and songs, and
give and receive the greetings of Christmas. Try to be
childlike and live in expectation of this quiet and gentle
season. Begin with the candles, write the cards,
listen to Christmas sacred music (try Pandora or
iHeartRadio...they’re free) then the tree, and prepare the
manger for the Holy Family.
The parish offers many opportunities to enter into the
Advent Season. If there are any Giving Tree tags still on the
trees at the entrances of the Church, please take them.
Return all your gifts—unwrapped—to the community
room by next Sunday, December 9th! This Advent Season
will pass quickly. On behalf of especially the children who
will receive your kind gifts, my sincere thanks. This
Sunday’s Breakfast with St. Nicholas (9am-12 noon) excites
the little ones as they wait for Christmas. Our wonderful
choirs will lead us in music and the Christmas Pageant on
Dec. 16 at 4 PM. All these wonderful parish events (and
others) of the Advent Season will be highlighted in the
bulletin. Most importantly, invite someone home to the
Church for Christmas; it's a wonderful gift to extend to
someone who may have been hurt, disappointed, or simply
spiritually lazy. Invite them to come with you, introduce
them to me at the front door, and support them on their
hopeful return. Offer them the gift of Christ again at
Christmas. You might be surprised with their response!
A holy and blessed Advent!
Monsignor Darcy
