FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER—MAY 12, 2019

From the Desk of Rev. Scott Holmer I just wanted to give everyone a state of the parish report since so much has been happening here at St. Edward’s recently. The last few weeks have been a

whirlwind. We had the Easter triduum one weekend, Confirmation the next, and First Communion the third. Whew! In Archdiocesan news, our new Archbishop Wilton Gregory will be installed on Tuesday, May 21st. Please keep him in your prayers. I also recently got news in the middle of holy week that our seminarian for the summer will be Fredy Calderon from Redemptoris Mater seminary. I will let you know more about when he will be starting soon. We have been truly blessed here at St. Edward’s. We had a great Lenten retreat led by Fr. Charlie. The Triduum went beautifully and the altar servers were awesome. We had a beautiful Confirmation Mass with Bishop Dorsonville and our first communicants were so happy to receive the Eucharist. Looking forward to this summer, the construction of our new roof will be beginning in June. We will also have a Pentecost party on Pentecost Sunday, which you will be hearing more about in the future. We also have a new budding Nursing Ministry seminar here at St. Edward’s on May 18th. Also, remember to mark your calendars that our seminarian from last year, Deacon Christian Huebner, will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 15th! As you can see, there is a lot going on so stay tuned to the bulletin! God Bless, Fr. Scott

PARISH SUPPORT: Last week’s Offertory: $15,712.00 Our weekly Offertory goal is $9,000.00. The previous 3 week Sunday Collections were: $8,418.00, $7,819.00, $9,838.00.

BAPTISM CLASS The next Baptism class will be held on May 19th in classroom 6 after the 11:30am Mass. You must be registered members of the parish prior to the Baptism of your child.

MINISTRIES OF THE MONTH COMMUNITY BULDING

AND USHERS COMMUNITY BUILDING: Happy Community Building month!! Community Building is a very active ministry within our parish. We have the privilege of interaction with both new and existing .parishioners. Here at St Ed’s we believe that the parish is a living-breathing entity, because in it God interacts with His people. With that in mind, the Community Building committee takes on the responsibility for many aspects of parish life. Our efforts are divided between welcoming new parishioners to our church and organizing many parish wide social activities. Our primary goal through these activities is to foster a sense of community and fellowship within the parish. In the coming weeks we will talk about the many ways we serve St Ed’s. But for now, here is a list of some of our activities -- reaching out to new parishioners, parish dinners, Pentecost picnic (new this year), Fun Day, and Doughnut Sundays (thanks donut committee!!!)’ And now under our umbrella are The Christmas Crafters and St. Edward’s Ladies Prayer & Fellowship Group. We have many opportunities for everyone. You may help with one or all of these activities. We will welcome you with open arms. Please think about joining our committee. USHERS: The ushers of St. Edward’s play an integral role in our parish spirit. They provide us with the comfort of a friendly greeting

when we enter the church for Mass.

Their responsibilities start before many of us arrive. Some of the more obvious tasks include: helping people find seating, arrange for the presentation of the gifts, collection and security of the offerings, ensure an orderly flow at communion time and oversee the general appearance of the church.

When we finally leave the church, the Ushers are there to hand out the bulletins with the same warmth that greeted you before. Usually they serve at the same weekend Mass regularly. They arrive 20 minutes early, stay afterwards to straighten up and are available to guide and answer questions that parishioners

or guests might have. All that is needed is a love of order, an ability to graciously welcome people, an eye for anything out of place. We encourage all responsible teens, as well as adults, to join us. An initial training is provided. For more information or to volunteer, please call the parish office at 301-249-9199 or send an email to:

[email protected]

We often leave the Doctors

clear up many of your questions about the healthcare system and

Basic understanding regarding types, signs and

or have a better understanding of their health care issues and treatments
