Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
What inspires our life at the deepest
level is also what is most difficult to
express. Such is the case of our faith
experience in the Risen Christ. For
the unbelievers, the resurrection of
Christ is something which exists
only in the beliefs of Christians. For
the Christian, the resurrection of Jesus is a fact having more solidity than
even the most convincingly proved historical fact. How can the Christian
express his faith to the believer or even, more simply, to the rightful
demands of his own reason?
The one who believes in the resurrection of Christ is reduced to adopt the
attitude of the apostles. This, with the help of the language and the way of
thinking proper to them, testify that they have known Jesus before his death
and that they have seen him alive once again. They testify, that is, they state
that they have seen and experienced.
The how of the event escapes them. How did Jesus pass from death to life,
how can he show himself alive in conditions which are no longer those
before his death? The apostles say nothing about this. But their firmness is
absolute as to the statement of fact. And so the faith of today’s Christian
affirms the death and the resurrection of Jesus, but it is unable to answer the
questions which would demand to explain the how of this resurrection.
And yet, the Christians experiences in his life the presence and the action of
the risen Christ, and this experience of faith transforms his life. He can
testify to it, he cannot explain it. It is a mystery, but one which enables a
person to live fully alive!
HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!
TO LIVE FULLY ALIVE!

LIVING THE SPIRIT OF EASTER
The Easter season—beginning on Easter Sunday and continuing for 50
days—is an opportunity for us to cultivate a spirit that defines who we are
as Christians. So what does living the spirit of the Easter season mean in
practical terms? Here are three concrete suggestions.
Live with Joy
Joy is a deep-down gladness that cannot be taken away, even in the midst
of sorrow. The Passion and Resurrection of Jesus teach us that suffering is
transformed through faith in the Risen Christ. With this faith, we are able to
hold on to an enduring sense of joy even in the midst of the sadness we
experience from the loss of a loved one, a failure to achieve an important
goal, or a setback during recovery from an illness.
Live without Fear
The Resurrection teaches us that God can overcome anything, even death.
When the Risen Christ appears to the women at the tomb and later to his
disciples, his first words are “Do not be afraid!” (Mt 28:5,10) These words
speak to our hearts, helping us cope with the fear from the loss of a job, a
serious illness, or a crumbling relationship. Our faith allows us to trust that
God can overcome our most serious problems.
Live with New Eyes
Easter means to live with a sense of newness. Just as the return of spring
lifts our spirits and makes us feel like the whole world is new, the
Resurrection of Jesus makes “all things new.” (Rev. 21:5) The Easter spirit
is a spirit of renewal that enables us to show up at work with a positive
attitude, to renew relationships that have been taken for granted, and to
express appreciation and affection to those closest to us. It means to see the
world through new eyes—God´s eyes.
We can use these 50 days to cultivate an Easter spirit that enables us to be
truly Christian: embracing joy, living without fear, and seeing the world
again—as if for the first time.

We can use your postage stamps from your mail The Salesian Missions use the old stamps that are passed
on to them to raise funds. This goes towards Salesian
Education and relief work in developing nations. Yes, the Post
man does not have to stop by often, but on that rare occasion he
does, and on that envelope, if there is a stamp, can you please
pass this on to us, instead of throwing it in the bin? A small
gesture, lending a big helping hand. We have placed a collection
box for stamps in the parish office.

Many ask why the Society is called St
Vincent de Paul. The answer is that
Ozanam and his friends named the
Society after the patron Saint of
Charitable Societies, St Vincent de
Paul (1581-1660). Vincent was born
in the small southern French town of Pouy ( later
renamed St Vincent de Paul in his honour) and was
ordained a priest in France in 1600 at the age of 19.
As a young man he ministered to wealthy and
powerful. However an appointment as chaplain to a
poor parish, and to galley prisoners, inspired a
vocation to work with those most powerless and
marginalised. Vincent urged his followers to bring
God’s justice and love to people who were unable to
live a full human life. His contributions to the
education of priests and services for the poor shaped
our church’s role in the modern world. At the age of
79 Vincent de Paul died in Paris in 1660, 173 years
before the founding of the Saint Vincent de Paul
Society.
EASTER EGGS
From early times, the egg symbolized
fertility and new life.
The exchange of eggs was a springtime
custom in some cultures. The ancient
Persians would color eggs red before
distributing them. In other countries,
eggs were wrapped in gold leaf or were colored by boiling
them with the leaves or petals of certain flowers before they
were given away.
In the second century, Christians began
using eggs as a symbol of Christ’s
resurrection. Just as a chick breaks out of
the shell of the egg in order to live, so
Christ “broke out” of the tomb in his
resurrection on Easter morning.
