Your computer HYPACK SURVEY SHARED MEMORY POSITION, HEADING, TIDE,, DEPTH SIDE SCAN SURVEY GPS Side Scan Sonar GPS, single beam and tide data go into HYPACK SURVEY. Sidescan (with optional MRU, heading sensor, pressure sensor)goes into SIDESCAN SURVEY. Information is passed between the two using the shared memory. Use the Hysweep.dll in HYPACK HARDWARE and HYPACK Navigation driver in HYSCAN HARDWARE. Setting up a Sidescan Device
In Hardware, add the driver to position your main vessel GPS.DLL in this example. Create a 2 mobile for your towfish position. Named Sidescan in this example. Select a driver to position the towfish. Towfish.DLL in this example. Select Sidescan Survey in System (check Include box for Sidescan Survey) Changed cablecnt.dll to towcable.dll.Towcable is a later dll and more accurate to reality. Note: If you are towing a sidescan, you need to create the mobile in Hardware before selecting the sidescan option Setting up a Sidescan Device
In Sidescan devices: Select Sidescan fromthe list of sensors. Check Specific Sonar Identification (for processing data in Geocoder) Check Setup. Some sidescan systems will have user options. If this option is greyed out, there is nothing to set. Note: If you are using backscatter from a MB system or sidescan from an Interferometric MB system, use the set-up in HYSWEEP hardware. If you are towing a system, you MUST have a positioning device for the sidescan mobile. Connect Side scan sonar:Most have networkconnections. Verify address and UDP port settings. COM Test and Network Test
Reformatted a little to distinguish between interface options Serial COM Test is not very useful for sonar testing. Most sonars use network connection. Use the Network Test to verify data communication.Allows to Ping device to test for connectivity and check for data stream. Sensor Offsets Changed Reference pt. to origin. We should be careful about wording re: boat origin and the new tracking point to be introduced in the Bruce release. Position offsets:Relative to boat or towfish origin.Usually0.0 for a towed side scan. Rotation offsets: Set to 0. Not used for sidescan operations. Interfacing Analog Sidescan: Analog to Digital card options
Analog Sidescan Setup option for the different connector types The NI USB-6221 is a USB device which works in all Windowsversions supported by HYPACK The earlier card in use, the NI 6024E works in Windows XP (SP2)operating systems, but is not supported by the newer OperatingSystems. Connector Block Configuration: USB6221 For Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8
Connection to computer is USB Connections between side scan and USB-6221 is via coax cables: AI0 = Port signal AI1 = Starboard signal AI2 = Trigger Ensure you load all National Instrument libraries included on the A/D board install CD Analog Software Setup Configuring the Software:
Run the Sidescan Hardware program from HYPACK. Add device Analog Sidescan. Select input device (NI 6024 or 6221) Run Sidescan Survey from HYPACK. The Analog Sidescan monitor will start with Survey. Set the appropriate ranges for your sidescan. voltage range trigger polarity / threshold I/O channel settings Removed MaxWere going back to HYPACK with the next release.Rearranged text for scanability. I/O channel set-up When finished with the Analog Sidescan Monitor, you may minimize it to get it out of the way, but do not close it. Ready for Survey For sidescan operations, select HYPACK Survey and Side ScanSurvey. If everything is working properly, you will see navigation (from thepositioning system from HYPACK SURVEY) and Sidescan datafrom the sonar Do not use the Side Scan Survey option in the sidescan menu for data collection. This is used for playback of data files and testing of the sonar system only.
