Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to a new term of learning at Sefton Infants School. I hope that all of our families had a relaxing winter break and that our students are ready for another great term of learning at our school.

This term our students will continue to build on their foundation literacy and numeracy skills during their class programs. Our Inquiry Learning groups will continue to take place on Fridays with our students being actively engaged in small groups with project-based learning in Science, Geography and History. Our creative arts program will continue with the students experiencing a range of learning activities in the areas of drama, music, visual arts and dance. Fundamental movement skills and modified sport games will be the focus of our learning in physical education, while in personal development our students will participate in learning experiences related to drug education and child protection.

Term 3 also offers some exciting extra-curricular learning opportunities for our students. In a few weeks’ time, all K-2 classes will be undertaking an excursion to Circular Quay and surrounds to support their learning about places in geography. To celebrate Children’s Book Week later in the term, Sefton Infants School will be hosting a Book Fair, Book Character Parade, as well as a special Book Week themed concert with our students performing a range of entertaining items. Save the date for this special school event on Friday 13 September. Our students will also be engaging with literature activities at Chester Hill Library just before Book Week and a special visiting drama performance of a popular children’s book. In addition, we are planning an Athletics Carnival in the final week of term. So as you can see, Term 3 is already shaping up to be a busy and exciting term of learning. Please keep reading this fortnightly newsletter, our notes home and make regular visits to the school website and/or school app. to keep informed of all of our school events.

You may have noticed lots of construction activity at our school lately. Parents and Friends (P&F) Association Meeting

123 Magic and Emotion Coaching—Parenting Course

Later this term Sefton Infants School will be hosting a worthwhile parenting course called ‘123 Magic and Emotion Coaching’. This three session program aims to help parents and carers respond to and manage difficult behaviour in children aged 2-12 years. The program teaches parents in how to use an easy signalling system to manage children’s inappropriate behaviour and how to set children on the path to more positive behaviours. The system also encourages the development of children’s ability to manage their emotional reactions to parental boundaries. A facilitator trained in the 123 Magic System will be running the course. Places will be limited for this series of workshops and I urge interested parents/carers to save the dates and keep an eye out for the course booking information that will be sent home from school soon. Dates: 5 Sept, 12 Sept & 19 Sept (Thursdays) Time: 10am—12pm Venue: Sefton Infants School Cost: Free

The next Sefton Infants P&F meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 14 August from 9-10am in the school library. All parents and interested community members are invited to attend this informal meeting where we discuss school programs and happenings, as well as plan ideas for future school events and fundraising activities. This meeting is also a great time to chat and network with other parents from the school whilst enjoying some morning tea. We hope to see you there.

ENROLLING NOW FOR PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN 2020 Places are limited.

Please visit the school office as soon as possible to complete applications for enrolment.

P&F

Meeting

Wed 14 Aug

9-10am

It is time for our wonderful Year 2 students to start getting ready for Year 3 at a new school site. Parents MUST visit the school they wish to seek enrolment for their child and complete the appropriate application forms. It is best to undertake this application process as soon as possible to secure enrolment as student numbers can be limited at some of our local schools. A special parent information session for our Year 2 parents will be held on Friday 23 August from 2-3pm on helping your child transition to Year 3. During the session we will be discussing the process of applying to enrol in Year 3 at local schools, similarities and differences between the infant years and primary years of learning and ways to help prepare for a different primary school site. All Year 2 parents are very welcome to attend this transition information session. Notes will be sent home soon for this parent session. Date: Friday 23 August Time: 2-3pm Venue: Sefton Infants School

Term 2 Mufti and Cup Cake Day

A big thank you to all of our students for their active participation and generosity with our recent fundraising event for RSPCA. The students of Sefton Infants School raised $322 for RSPCA by donating money in exchange for wearing mufti clothes and buying delicious cupcakes donated by our Year 1 and 2 students.
