Parent-Teacher Interviews are a great opportunity to learn about your childs progress and achievement across all areas of learning at school. It also allows parents to exchange important informaon with their childs class teacher. I urge all parents to aend these special, individual meengs. Ongoing communicaon between teachers and parents forges a strong partnership between home and school and this in turn, enhances your childs educaon. Notes in regards to these interview dates have already been distributed to all students. Please see your childs class teacher if you need an alternave date. At these Parent-Teacher Interviews, you will also receive your childs half yearly progress report. This individualised document provides worthwhile informaon on your childs progress and achievement in academic learning areas, physical educaon and creave arts, as well as informaon in regards to your childs social development, aendance and commitment to learning. The range of informaon in your child's report will help you understand their progress at school and ways you can support their learning. The grades and comments provided on your childs half yearly report are based on a range of formal assessments, in addion to informal assessments such as teacher observaons, student work samples and oral responses. Student assessment is an ongoing process with teachers connually gathering informaon on how children are learning, what they know and understand. Every day in every lesson teachers are assessing your childs progress using informal methods. This assessment informaon is used to determine what individual students need to learn. For students in Years 1 to 6 in all government schools, grades are given to each student in each key learning area according to their current level of knowledge, skills and understanding of a subject. The expected syllabus standard of achievement is Sound. Students who demonstrate a deeper level of knowledge and understanding, a more sophiscated level of skill and are able to more effecvely apply these skills to new situaons independently, would receive a High or Outstanding. Those students whose level of achievement isnt at the expected standard for that year level would receive a Basic or Limited. Teachers carefully study their student assessment data and use the syllabus outcomes to determine studentsgrades at this point in me. Students are not ranked and there is no limit to the number of students who can receive a parcular grade. I urge all parents/carers to aend the upcoming important Parent-Teacher Interviews to discuss their childs half yearly progress report. Dear Parents/Carers,

During weeks 9 and 10 of this term, all parents/carers will be invited to attend Parent-Teacher Interviews where they will be able to talk individually with their child’s class teacher. Parent-Teacher Interviews are a great opportunity to learn about your child’s progress and achievement across all areas of learning at school. It also allows parents to exchange important information with their child’s class teacher. I urge all parents to attend these special, individual meetings. Ongoing communication between teachers and parents forges a strong partnership between home and school and this in turn, enhances your child’s education. Notes in regards to these interview dates have already been distributed to all students. Please see your child’s class teacher if you need an alternative date.

At these Parent-Teacher Interviews, you will also receive your child’s half yearly progress report. This individualised document provides worthwhile information on your child’s progress and achievement in academic learning areas, physical education and creative arts, as well as information in regards to your child’s social development, attendance and commitment to learning. The range of information in your child's report will help you understand their progress at school and ways you can support their learning.

The grades and comments provided on your child’s half yearly report are based on a range of formal assessments, in addition to informal assessments such as teacher observations, student work samples and oral responses. Student assessment is an ongoing process with teachers continually gathering information on how children are learning, what they know and understand. Every day in every lesson teachers are assessing your child’s progress using informal methods. This assessment information is used to determine what individual students need to learn.

For students in Years 1 to 6 in all government schools, grades are given to each student in each key learning area according to their current level of knowledge, skills and understanding of a subject. The expected syllabus standard of achievement is Sound. Students who demonstrate a deeper level of knowledge and understanding, a more sophisticated level of skill and are able to more effectively apply these skills to new situations independently, would receive a High or Outstanding. Those students whose level of achievement isn’t at the expected standard for that year level would receive a Basic or Limited. Teachers carefully study their student assessment data and use the syllabus outcomes to determine students’ grades at this point in time. Students are not ranked and there is no limit to the number of students who can receive a particular grade.

I urge all parents/carers to attend the upcoming important Parent-Teacher Interviews to discuss their child’s half yearly progress report.

Kind regards,

Sharna Labbe

Year 2 Swim School

All of our Year 2 students participated actively in our recent week long water safety program at Birrong Leisure Centre. The students gained much water confidence and safety skills during the week of lessons, including entering and exiting water, learning techniques for deeper water and how to rescue others safely. The Department of Education swimming instructors and staff at Birrong Leisure Centre commented on the excellent behaviour of our students. Well done Year 2 on your successful completion of the water safety program! We hope you share your learning with your families and continue to practise your beginning swimming skills with adult supervision.

Notification for Parents and Carers All Government and non-Government schools across Australia are required to participate annually in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). All Australian schools collect data on their students who are receiving adjustments to meet additional learning and support needs in accordance with their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005. This data will be provided to the Australian Government to assist in the development of a consistent, national picture of the education needs of students with disability. The data provided to the Australian Government by the NSW Department of Education is provided in such a way that it cannot be used to identify any individual student or school. General information about the national data collection can be found on the Australian Government Department of Education and Training website at http://education.gov.au/fact-sheets-nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability. Privacy Protection The NSW Department of Education follows the requirements of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. Schools will collect, record, store and use data about individual students in line with these requirements. Data security and protection is a priority and students’ personal details will be kept confidential. Under Clause 52 of the Commonwealth Australian Education Regulation 2013, data collected by the NSW Department of Education for the NCCD must be provided to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. This includes the number of students at each level of education, the number in each category of disability and the number at each level of adjustment. The information is provided to the Commonwealth as a series of number sets that cannot be used to identify any individual student or school. The Australian Government Department of Education and Training follows the requirements of the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 when handling any data provided by NSW Department of Education in connection with the national data collection. A privacy notice has been developed by the Australian Government to provide students, parents and carers with important privacy information in relation to the data collection. This notice is available on the Department’s website at http://education.gov.au/notices If you have any questions about the data collection please do not hesitate to contact the Principal of Sefton Infants School.

Sefton Infants school (K-2) will be participating in cross country running races on Friday 25 June (Last day of Term 2) from 9:30 –11am. The cross country races will take place at Allder Park, which is the park directly across the road from Sefton Infants School Rodd Street entrance. The students’ already completed local excursion note covers the parental permission for this sporting activity. All students are expected to join in the cross-country track, either by jogging or walking. Cross country is part of our school sport program. While waiting for their race, the students will be participating in sporting activities with their class and teachers in Allder Park. The students can come to school in mufti clothes that are suitable for running and sport (no-uniform) on the cross country day. We are looking forward to this special event. It is Sefton Infants School’s first ever cross country running experience at Allder Park and it is sure to be a fun and active event.
