Dear Parents/Carers,

A warm welcome back to Term 4 to all our families. Our students have already made a great start to the new term, bringing much enthusiasm and energy to their learning. This term our students will continue to consolidate and extend their foundation skills in literacy and numeracy. It is wonderful to see the growth that all of our students have made so far this year in their English and Mathematics. We are striving to continue this strong growth right to the end of the school year.

During Term 4 all of our students will also be developing their movement skills and aerobic fitness through an 8 week dance program taught by a specialist dance teacher. This program started last week with high levels of engagement and enjoyment displayed by all of the students. Dance is an integral strand and compulsory feature of the NSW syllabuses in both Physical Education and Creative Arts. Our dance program will be taking place each Wednesday for most of this term. Notes regarding the program have been distributed.

In the learning area of Health and Personal Development, our students will be undertaking important studies related to road, school and home safety during Term 4. We always encourage our families, as our students’ first and primary educators, to help reinforce the messages of safety at home and in our community.

Our successful Inquiry Learning Groups are continuing this term on Fridays. During this time our students work in mixed small groups to develop their knowledge and skills in Geography, History, Science and STEM in very engaging and interactive activities.

Term 4 will also see our preparations for 2019 commence with both our Preschool and Kindergarten orientations starting soon. We are very much looking forward to meeting our new students and helping them to get ready for big school.

As we are now starting to organise our classes for 2019, it is very important to alert your child’s class teacher or the principal if your family is planning to move home or to a different educational setting in the new year. For school records, we require you to inform the school in writing, outlining when your child will be leaving the school and the new educational setting your child will be attending. This information helps with the transition to the new school. We appreciate your support in providing this information to the school.

Wishing all of our students a productive, successful and fun term of learning.

Kind regards,

Sharna Labbe

SkoolBag App Upgrade

Our SkoolBag app will soon be upgrading. How will you be upgraded?

All users that are using the SkoolBag single app (Android and iOS) will receive the automatic upgrade. After upgrading, you will need to log in again using your free SkoolBag account.

It is very important that you log in again so that you can access all the features of SkoolBag.

Sefton Infants School uses SkoolBag as an efficient means of communicating school happenings to our school community. It is also a way for our parents to send messages to the school. We encourage all of our families and interested community members to download this free app.

For more information or assistance, please visit the school office or our school website to obtain detailed App installation instructions.

School Photos All students from Preschool to Year 2 will be involved in school photographs on Wednesday 31 October. Whole school, class and individual photos will be taken by visiting professional photographers. If you would like to order any photographs, please complete the order form on the envelope which has been distributed, enclose the exact payment required and return to your child’s class teacher by Tuesday 30 October. If you would like to order a family photo for siblings who attend Sefton Infants School and Preschool, please visit the school office to obtain a special order form. It is vital that all K-2 students wear full summer uniform on the day of the photographs. This full uniform includes a red short-sleeved polo shirt, navy blue shorts or culottes (for girls), navy blue socks and black school shoes. Only navy blue or red ribbons or headbands should be used for any hair that is tied up. Many families, as well as the school, purchase photos and want the photos and the school to be represented at its best. Therefore, it is very important for students to be extra neat and tidy in their school uniform on the day. There will not be any sport lessons on this day. Thank you for your support.

Preschool and Kindergarten 2018 Orientations

We are already getting ready for our new students who will be starting with us in 2019. The orientation sessions that will be happening this term are a very important part of the transition of students to school. Our Kindergarten Orientation sessions are scheduled for three Mondays from 12 November to 26 November (9:30 - 11am). Attending each of the three sessions is very important for our new 2019 Kindergarten students and their parents/carers to familiarise themselves with our school and be ready for the 2019 school year. Our Preschool Orientation sessions will all be taking place on Thursday 15 November. Letters will be sent to individual families who have successfully applied for Preschool and Kindergarten placements for 2019. We are looking forward to meeting all of our new students and welcoming them to our wonderful school.

Athletics Carnival In the last week of Term 3, Sefton Infants School held its annual Athletics Carnival. We had a fantastic day filled with great races and field events. It was a tight day of competition with congratulations going to the Kookaburra sports team for being the victorious group on the day. It was wonderful to see our students demonstrate excellent sportsmanship on the day by encouraging their peers. Thank you to all the teachers, families and friends who supported this fun sports event and cheered on our students. Take a look at our school website for more photos of the athletics carnival and other school events.

Parents and Friends Association Meeting

All parents and friends of Sefton Infants School are invited to our next P & F Meeting taking place 9-10am Wednesday 7 November in the school library. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and share morning tea in an informal atmosphere, learn more about school programs and happenings as well as contribute to future school plans. We hope to see you there.
