———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———
 Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
I hope you all enjoyed the parish mission and got a
lot out of it. I know I did.
As we prepare for Easter, I thought I would jot down a
few thoughts about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, also
known as Penance or Confession. There are so many people
who have fears about Confession, and perhaps there were some
of you who had a bad experience with Confession as a child or
adult, and that is truly regrettable. Nonetheless, if you have a
bad experience with a doctor or mechanic, you don’t stop seek-
ing medical care or car repair. You simply go to a different
doctor or garage. Just so, from what I know of my brother
priests in the area, we are overjoyed when someone comes to
Confession and our job is to welcome, to console, to encourage,
and most especially to reflect the tender and loving mercy of
God. We want it to be a great experience, not a dreaded one.
So, I urge you to not fear this healing sacrament. It is one of
the ways God lavishes his grace upon us, just as the Father did
to his Prodigal Son.
Now, while it is good to go to Confession at least eve-
ry year or so, if you are not aware of any serious sins, or if you
seem to have your habits under control, you are not required to
go, as all venial sins, that is less serious sins, are wiped away at
Mass. It doesn’t hurt to go, of course, but there’s no require-
ment. However, if you know you haven’t been in a while to
Confession and know you are in need, Lent is a great time to
go, especially with so many opportunities. And while for-
giveness is God’s free gift, (we don’t have to jump through
hoops to merit forgiveness) the Sacrament of Reconciliation is
one of the prime ways that we accept God’s forgiveness in our
lives, heal and strengthen our relationship with God, and be
freed from fear. As it says in Psalm 32: “As long as I kept si-
lent about my sin, my bones wasted away within me. Then I
declared my sin, and you took away my guilt. Many are the
sorrows of the wicked, but love surrounds those who trust in
the Lord.”
Trust in the Lord, and may God bless you,
Fr. Michael

Tips for Seeking Forgiveness
As the end of Lent nears, you may want
to think about giving and receiving for-
giveness. Is there someone you need to
forgive? Pray for the person who offend-
ed you and for God to help bring peace between you
both. Reach out to the person who has offended you
and forgive them.
Do you need forgiving? If you know of something you
have done to harm others, try one of these steps: pray
for the person you have offended and ask for God to
help bring peace between you both. Reach out to the
person you offended and ask them to forgive you. Go
to confession. (Taken from OSV flyer)
Next Sunday, April 14
th
there will be a Penance Ser-
vice held at OLGC at 4:00 pm. There will be several

th
the “Light Is On” will be held at
OLGC from 2:00 - 5:00 pm.

opportunities to receive the healing of the Sacrament
of Reconciliation.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from
the Office of Family Life Education (A
Hope Appeal Agency)
Stoning is not just an ancient act of vio-
lence. Each day in our homes we throw stones of ridicule,
criticism, name-calling and put-downs. All of it is deadly.
Hear Jesus in today’s gospel: “Whoever is without sin can
throw the first stone.” Rid your home of violence. Stop ver-
bal stoning!
